Ryzen + Intel CPU's @MC

The 1700x and 1800x are great deals! I've been tempted to upgrade but I just can't with the price of DDR4. I have tons of DDR3 (4 builds) but just can't pull the trigger.

If you're shopping at Microcenter, be sure to check out their refurb/clearance items. I've gotten a ASUS C201 Chromebook here for $40 that had very minor cosmetic damage, a R7 360 for $55 (last year), a Vega64 for $425 (last week), a GTX 950 for $80 (back in late 2016 / early 2017). All open box, all in generally excellent condition and manufacturer warranty intact.

Well let's see, I picked up my parts for my server almost 3 months ago now. Let's compare prices:

Ryzen 1700x I paid $290, now $260
Asus Prime X370-Pro I paid $120, now $140 (in both prices this reflects the $30 bundle discount, but does NOT account for the rebates, as I haven't gotten my $10 yet)
Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 16gb ddr4 2400mhz I paid $135, now $160

So cpu is $30 less than then, mobo is $20 more expensive (maybe $15 if you account for the $5 larger rebate available now) and the ram is $25 more expensive. At the time the crucial was the cheapest qvl ram they had, I might have gone for some g skill ram now and save $10. If I did that, it would be exactly the same total price as back then. Thanks ram prices (and oddly more expensive mobo.)

Yeah not the best time to build with RAM prices being sky high right now, and GPU prices still a bit wonky.
On the bright side RAM may come down soon as Samsung is getting ready to ramp up production.

Nice grab on the VEGA 64, personally I always check their open box section as there's always deals to be had. The 1700x I'm using now was an open box for $199+ Tax my 1st 1700x I bought for 299.99 + Tax but I did get $100 off my mobo at the time.

I've been eyeing those r3 combos to upgrade the kids boxen perhaps even sticking to 8gb until prices drop next year. Which of MC's mem sets is most likely to play nice at 3200?

Even my rig is getting long in the tooth. An OCed 1600 or 1600x might fit the bill at those prices.

Any 3200MHz kit should run at that speed if it's on the motherboard QVL especially the 2x8GB Kits. My RAM is rated for 3k can do 3200MHz np if I run them in 2x8GB but 4x8GB wants a bit too much voltage with my Ryzen setup so I have them @2933MHz, that being said they ran perfect with past Intel setups (6700k/Z170 and 7700k/Z270) I've had @3200MHz in 4x8GB 1.365v

Currently using an i5-3570k. Wanted to rebuild to an i7-8700k, but given how cheap the R7-1800X is nowadays I'm wondering if a Ryzen build would be just as good?

I went from a 3570k to a 1700. I'm extremely happy. BF1 is my main game, and it was just hammering my i5. Now I can stream and play with no adverse effects on performance.

Ditto, nabbed an Power color RX Vega 56 for $314 a couple days ago. Micro Center open box deals are legit. Especially around black friday.

Threadripper 1950x at 799.99 is a good deal. The 1920x is 649.99 and 1900x is 499.99 now.

unless you need the pci lanes - the 1900x is equal to the 1800x with a much cheaper mb option.

As a side note those with Haswell CPUs looking at the Coffee lake i5's and i7's this will be of interest:

Really important to determine what resolution you are using and GPU. even with a 1080Ti at 1080p there are not massive gains and who uses a 1080ti for 1080p anyway?

interesting that the 7700K is the same price as the 1700X - delidded it screams in at 5ghz with not much effort (well okay I got mine at 4.9 but that took me 5 minutes more time than I care to invest). So I would say the 7700K is the best deal.

The 7700k also comes with Assassin's Creed Origins and Warhammer Total War II for that $260 outlay so you might be able to get it for $200 if you sell those.

I can't decide if I want to upgrade my 6600k to the 7700k or move to a R5-1600 and motherboard for the $260ish. If upgrade to the 7700k I might be able to sell the i5 for $100 which makes the upgrade cheap. But if I buy into the AMD platform I'll be left with a spare system I could pass on to someone else. What a time to be alive.
