Hey,
I am looking to upgrade my z170 to a z270 board. Budget is around $150, looking for some light overclocking for my 6700k. I've been eyeing the Z270 krait gaming that HardOCP reviewed and is $129.99 after rebate. Also saw the z270 gaming pro carbon from MSI in a similar price range, but I can't find good details on differences. Any thoughts?

I would stay away from MSI, go either Asus or Asrock.
The Fatal1ty Z270 is an excellent choice when it comes to overclock and its pretty solid..

I have the Z270 Gaming Pro Carbon board and I can't complain. I don't normally like MSI, but their recent offerings haven't been too bad.

So far, my Gigabyte GA-Z270X Ultra Gaming has been great. I'm a big fan of Gigabyte boards. Great combination of features and performance for the price.

After using Asus and AsRock boards for a long time and feeling the upgrade itch from Z87/97 rigs, I saw a Gigabyte Z170 that had all of the features I wanted (the one in my sig) so I went for it, and have had nottaneveraproblemo since day 1. Just rock solid performance and ZERO compatibility/config issues....that was 1.5 yrs ago !

So whenever my next upgrade itch comes (won't be long) if they have a new board with the features/price I want, I will most certainly go with them again :)

I replied to this back in August, but I'm wondering why the need to "upgrade" to Z270 anyway. At this point, update the bios, and rock on with the Z170. Unless you're really looking to use Optane memory (hint: you shouldn't at this point), there's no need at all to upgrade.

Do you need the 4 additional PCIE lanes or Intel Optane? the first you won't get with a 6700k and the later is a possibility I suppose and the other enhancements Intel made won;t be found on a 150 dollar board. Bottom line I see no good reason to upgrade to Z270 w/6700k or 7700k for that matter. IMHO
