Activision Announces Call of Duty: WWII

Since they're not lords of the world they can only ban the game in germany. If they so wish they can do it. I've written off germany as a loss a long time ago. They're so afraid of their history that they'd rather forget it, repress it. I fear it will only make them repeat past mistakes. Just look at their obsession with privacy, and the migrant crisis they single handedly caused, by bad pr that continues to this day. It will end in tears and suffering for them sooner or later,

german here. i would absolutely welcome a wehrmacht campaign. if done right, this could really be innovative for the whole genre. and it's not like they haven't done "controversial" before - remember the airport mission in MW2? that was a high point in fps campaign design. just build a good story and run with it. something like this: it's about you and your best friend who get drafted. you both eat up the propaganda and steamroll through poland, france, advance towards dunkirk, the works. at some point one of you witnesses and then commits war crimes and you get exposed to the horrors of mass extermination. have the player make hard choices. that shit could absolutely work if done right and might even be used as a tool of education.

why the hell not?

why the hell not?
In almost every depiction of WW2 all German / Japanese soldiers are depicted as pure evil. That's the public narrative.
It's one thing to do something controversial. But it's another thing to upend the narrative. I don't think they want to touch that. Maybe a small independent studio would, but they have too much to loose if the SJW branch and the mainstream media gets on their toes, however unfair it would be.

every 15 years we get a rehash.

The new generation of kids need to experience what we did back in 2002

If it has a good story line, like the first Call of Duty, I will happily play it. If not, making a World War 2 game will make no difference to me.

I had a great deal of fun playing the first COD and MOH games, hope this one will come out right. Maybe feature more Pacific island campaigns, W@W's Peleliu island level was really spot on, even the airfield is still here, bullet ridden and all.

I would love to see a full scale Omaha Beach in a newer engine. However, I don't have much faith in CoD developers to not fuck it up.

As overdone as the WWII setting is, they could possibly breathe some life into it by going the "alternate history" route. Perhaps a "Man in the High Castle"-style campaign?
