Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom is coming to PC

Would be nice if the first one did as well.

I bought it on the PS3 but never finished it. Great game, although the combat style feels really wonky to me.

Also hoping Ni No Kuni 1 comes to PC. Bought it for cheap on my PS3 but haven't had the chance to play through it.

This, along with the Tales and FF ports, are making the PC an actual decent JRPG platform. Hopefully their continued success will lead to more franchises coming to PC (looking at you Persona and Dragon Quest).

The second best news is that's it's releasing day and date with the PS4 release. Unlike FF15 which might release sometime in 2018.

Brilliant, any collaboration involving Studio Ghibli is guaranteed to deliver! Never got around to playing the first one on PS3, just don't have enough time for these damn rpgs anymore.

Loved the first one. Glad to see this is on PC now. Judging from reviews just about everything is improved. Still sounds easy but I'm ok with that.

I bought the first for PS3, played quite a few hours but ultimately I just don't like the combat system. It feels unnecessarily clunky and some weird hybrid of real-time and turn-based but just doesn't feel right.

I am assuming NNK2 is the same system?

No it is more action oriented combat.

Yeah I was just watching that gameplay video above...looks way better, doesn't look like you have to run around and select shit from a list anymore, and then wait for the timing to be correct. That was super annoying.

Might have to pick this up.

I don't quite understand.. was that a tutorial or are your party members invincible? When smashed across the arena they barely took a fraction of HP damage. And why do they stand directly in front of the boss after clearly stating he's building up his special attack? If it weren't for the Youtube comments I wouldn't have even known the protagonist was a boy not a girl because the accent was so thick and I guess he's 10?

It's actually a fairly beautiful game. Anyway, from what I can see, it includes everything the PS4 version does. To the best of my abilities, it looks the same as the PS4 Pro, and includes HDR on the PC as well as the PS4. The main difference is that you know for a fact that it's true 4k on the PC, and can have unlimited frame rate, and due to better SSD usage, load times are far better on the PC. (To a certain extent, controlling the game does feel like you're on ice.)

I have to give it to the devs and even publisher this time - No Denuvo, real PC settings (Ultrawide, HDR, 4K, 30/60/Uncapped framerates etc), Japanese audio option, all in all looking pretty good. Early reviews of the game are solid as well! Definitely on my wishlist - I am curious what sort of content will come for the Prince's Edition season pass.

Those considering a purchase should likely do it on PC to reward the devs for "doing it right" so to speak!

I've always been a fan of Level 5. This really looks like it could be something special. Will be buying very soon.

Picked up the game off Steam earlier today and I'm only about 2 hours in but I can tell I am going to enjoy this game. Performance has been great so far (solid 60 fps) with 4k rez, HDR and everything on high except motion blur. Motion blur on high dropped it down to 54-55 fps when turning the camera, causing a noticeable hiccup, but putting it on low solved it.

Nice change of pace after playing Final Fantasy XV.

This game honestly could be a classic in the making. I haven't used that word in a long time. Don't miss this one.

I'm definitely standing by these comments and then some.

I'm going to throw some lobs here. I'm honestly having to go back to the days of Star Ocean 2 and Suikoden 2 and yes, even some of the golden age SNES games, to compare with my takeaway on this title.

I'd have to agree. It has been a very very long time since I've enjoyed a JRPG this much. I've got 65 (I think) hours in so far. When I have down time I just want to play more. Sadly I'm getting close to the end. I'm on the final chapter, I have my town at level 3 (can't do 4 yet), just waiting on a couple citizens to reach master level in order to finish up some research, have only five citizens left to recruit, and I'm running low on side quests. I'm trying to do everything I can before moving on to the final set of story missions. Then I'll be ready for the end game/post game mop up.

I heard this game is super G/Disney Rated.

I like JRPGS, when they're not super corny, cheesy, G rated, etc.

Someone convince me to pick this up...

Ready, set, GO!

It does look pretty. I've been reading reviews, and comparisons. I liked Tales of Berseria and a good number of people people have been saying that this game, although prettier, isn't as good of a game in terms of likeable characters and plot. I'm probably going to wait until its 50% off at this point.

I'd call it PG. There is death, some "Dark"-ish moments and all. If you've seen Ghibili movies like Spirited Away, Ponyo, Castle in the Sky, etc then you will get the tone of the game. I saw a reviewer describe it as twee and I think that is a very fitting word. It has a ton of heart and passion behind it. The entire game oozes style. It can be really corny because the main character is a pretty happy go lucky child, but it doesn't fall into the point of being diabetes inducing level sweetness. The game opens with a city being nuked and a bunch of people trying to murder a child, so there is that.

Fair warning: If you hate puns stay away. The game is filled with puns. There are pun names for places, 90% of the named characters are puns, bosses have puns in their titles.

I think I might wait until it's a lot cheaper to pick it up.

Edit - Looking at the combat though, looks pretty good. I picked up Tales of Berseria a few days ago for $18 and didn't like it much. Is the combat similar?

Not really. It is action based, but its less about spam random special moves and more about positioning and stuff. It is very easy though so don't go in expecting a challenge.

I'm still trying to get through Persona 5..... then planning to likely start on this one.

Need more time every day.... barely get to play P5 more than a couple days a week and its going to take ages to finish and get to this one though. ;)

Glad to keep reading good things about it. Just makes me want to get to it even more!!

Challenge is there, however. If you go off exploring and you see enemies with red text over their heads or dark auras surrounding them? You will get your ass handed to you no worries. ;)

OK, finally defeated the game, and did some post content stuff. I'm going to disagree with most people here about the game. On the technical side, this game is a great port. On the gameplay side though, I find it lacking. Tons of quests, but almost all of them are fetch quests, skirmishes, or kill a monster, and most just give you a reward of some useless item.

And there are tons of items. But to be honest, I never changed my accessories, and only on rare occasions chose to switch my weapons and armor. I have who knows how many pieces of gear, but never used the blacksmith until I could max out it's level, and then you're just waiting hours on end to get the necessary materials.

As far as monsters, only the super secret boss posed any real difficulty. And you will have to grind for him. And in terms of skirmishes, you will have to grind. I'm just sick of skirmishes. I feel the game could have been better had it had only 1/3 of the skirmishes, and dropped all the unnecessary quests that only give you some useless gear.

Isn't that almost every RPG/JRPG now adays, though?

I fall victim to this too, though. Whenever I see a new RPG that gets amazing reviews, I instantly get excited since RPG's are typically my most "favorite" games to play.

Then I play it, enjoy the first 10-20 hours, then get bored with the same ol' crap every RPG has to offer.

It's odd, really. Like an addiction of some sort.

As some one whos favorite genre is the JRPG category I am enjoying the game still. Sure, I have a few nitpicks that I wish to be addressed, but overall, I'm happy. Too often people expect the next triple A JRPG release to reinvent the combat wheel or have so deep a story/lore that it will give J.R.R. Tolkien a run for his money. But I see Ni no Kuni 2 as a fusion of multiple elements from classic JRPG games of the past, which was then molded with sleek looking graphics into a traditional JRPG, with the only thing missing being turn-based combat. None of it is new but all of it is familiar in good way.

I'm not trying make excuses for the game or justify my purchase; I just see this game in a different light and judge it accordingly. Different strokes for different folks and all that.

I think it comes down to the quality of fetch quests. To me, there's a difference of "I need 5 blueberries" vs a quest line which requires you to investigate something. And as I stated earlier, I think a lot comes down to the sheer quantity of them.

Personally, I feel most RPGs (JRPGs, western RPGS, etc.) just are far too long. Even in Ni No Kuni 2, half the castle stuff, skirmishes, quests, etc. could have been eliminated, cutting the game down to 20 hours and being overall a much better game.

I don't mind all the fluff as long as it's totally optional. At this point in my life there's not enough time in the day for me to be a completionist. I skipped so much stuff in FFXV and didn't feel like I missed anything noteworthy. I like when games have secrets, hidden areas, Omega style FF bosses that are super hard, etc. They can throw as much fluff as they want as long as it's not a requirement to get through the game. Very much unlike MMO's where if you skip a single fetch quest you are now gimped in the leveling process and the whole game basically seems like a chore to hit max level.

Yeah a lot of the quests were dumb but they were optional. You really didn't have to do anything with the town to progress the story. I just 100% the game today and didn't feel like a drag.

I'm still on the fence about this one - someone tell me their thoughts on the overall story/plot of this game. Is it good? Is it extremely childish? I play RPG's for a mix of good storytelling and challenging yet rewarding combat. From what most people are saying about the combat in this game, it seems pretty easy and not too complex maybe minus the kingdom building stuff. What about the story though? I just want to know if the game is worth full price or wait until it drops about 50%. Thanks guys. I'm actually considering going back and getting Dragon Quest Heroes 2 instead as I've heard it was a pretty solid build on the original Heroes foundation (which I didn't love) - both games are clocking in around $50 as the best prices I can find them for.
