NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Sorry about your loss, losing components really sucks. Glad you had a back up. I was actually using the same Asrock mobo and G3258 on my HTPC at one time, I was able to get a 4.8 GHz OC with it. http://valid.canardpc.com/bad80y

Just flash the bios, success. Now I see option to OC 3.8 etc.. But windows doesnt boot when I try to OC. Blue screen says to prevent hardware damage, not sure why....

Are you running Win10? There were weird issues with OCing this cpu with Win10, when I had mine I was using Win8.1. Not sure if they ever solved it.

No i use win 7 ultimate. When I boot to the windows logo (the 4 light thingy flew in to form it) It goes blue screen and says windows has detected error and restart to prevent hardware damage etc...and it just reboots. Cant seem to get thru that part.

This is a really cool build, I like that the pump is on the GPU block. Would you mind listing all the water cooling parts you got?

Sure, there you go:

-Alphacool Eiswolf GPX Pro M01
-Alphacool Nexxxos ST30 Radiator 240
-Alphacool Eiszapfen 13/10 Fittings
-Aquacomputer Cuplex kryos CPU Cooler
-FrozenQ Reservoir

Can anyone tell me the clearance in mm between GPU and top of the case? I need to know if I will be able to place a pump/res combo in there to save some space.

Wouldn't that be the length of itx board minus the pci-e slot width? If you have a board, you can measure that. There's some space about 8mm to 10mm from the end of the MB to the top panel.

I got i7 6700k as present but that is all I have atm. I could mount res outside the case and mount pump on the exhaust. Tempted to order D5 pump even if it's bigger but EK said that it is quiter.
How much does the case costs when imported to UK? I ordered some sunglasses from US for about £40 and paid £15 fee on top of it.

I don't know the cost to UK. You can check the Ncase website when you try to put in an order.

I removed the side panel behind the motherboard and tried to measure from the center of the PCI-E slot's rows of soldering to the inside of the top panel. It's a bit tricky to measure, but I got 172 mm +/- 1 mm.

Dear NCASE,

Please made a new ODD top panel, pleeeeeeeeease?

Well, enlarging the cutout so the entire bezel of a slim optical drive is exposed won't work:

The cutout leaves too little material at the corners, plus the drive bracket doesn't have enough travel to allow the drive to sit flush with the top panel.

I suppose it might be possible to have a special top panel specifically designed only for that Silverstone drive, with only the cutouts for the USB ports and memory card slots. I have my doubts there's demand enough to meet MOQ for it though.

For those interested, the Gigabyte GTX 1070 Xtreme Gaming Fits like a glove. With Glove I mean that the card couldn't have a mm taller and once the GPU is installed, you can't reach anything anymore below the GPU. Ofc, two 25mm thick fans will not fit beneath the GPU anymore, slim fans might fit but I don't see the benefit of them.

Please excuses the crappy images, was excited and just took some quick shots with my phone. I've updated the compatibility list in the first post. If the 1070 fits, I'm almost 100% sure that the 1080 will also fit. Up till now, I can't see anything about the performance yet because I disassembled everything again. Will 'begin' with the build somewhere around Christmas!

I'm glad it fits (barely!). Also glad you got your RMA completed fairly quickly. Keep us posted on the rest of your build.

Thanks! Yeah, I was surprised as well how quick Amazon provided me with a new one. Think they used high priority service to give me a new one.

Will keep you guys updated on the build. Was planning to create a dedicated thread for the build with some better pictures ;)

While it's a clever idea from Silverstone, I don't think this is the best way to get more USB ports or even a USB-C port into the M1. A better way would be to have them at the bottom of the front panel, in place of the existing I/O unit. A card reader would be nice, but a USB-based one is fine for me. Also, I think a large cutout in the top panel ruins the M1's minimalist appearance.

Nice, I'll update the compatibility list.

Ack. Ran into a CPU cooler compatibility issue with my motherboard. Fine for the NCase, but not my graphics card (pushes against it).

Returns to Amazon for a reason like this cost $10 return shipping :(

Which CPU cooler and motherboard are incompatible with the M1?

Thanks for the update, I really thought that card would fit but it is good to know for sure. Please keep us updated as I am really curious about it's performance in the Ncase.

It will just show delivery fee and that is $40.

That is a great news. Thanks for checking. Looks like I will be able to put smallest res/pump combo above GPU on the left hand side (above CPU). Saves tons of space.

That is helpful. Thanks. Looks like it will be £250 in total sending to UK with import tax.

I should have stated this before, but the amount of usable space above the graphics card will be less than what I measured, due to the thickness of the card and possibly the presence of the case's internal power cable.

I am planning to have all cables custom made for my build. Once I have the case I will look deeper into it if my plan will work as EK have all measurements on their web page. If that will not work I will have to look for a different solution.

+ a possible GPU backplate

EK states that combo is 147mm high so that is about 25mm extra ;) if can't mount it with pump on the bottom then I will need to mount it horizontally.

I'm about to order this case, but I wanted to know, I have to get the optical drive slot (other is sold out), the only difference is the slot at the top, right? I can still mount ssd's there if I wanted to?
