It would seem that the Germans aren't too happy with WhatsApp's decision to share user data with its parent company for the sole purpose of selling ads. Making matters worse is the fact that both companies swore that no data would be shared between them when Facebook acquired the company in 2014.

The city of Hamburg’s data protection commissioner ordered Facebook on Tuesday to stop collecting and storing data on WhatsApp users in Germany, the first time a privacy watchdog has waded into the debate. The regulator, which has authority over Facebook’s activities across Germany, also called on the social network to delete all information already forwarded from WhatsApp on roughly 35 million German users.

I thought WhatsApp was all about NO ADS. Oh wait, Facebook bought them, so maybe outside of the US you get ads? I recall reading a whole page about their practices and the fact that even with the Facebook deal they wouldn't be collecting data or doing anything for the sake of adverts. Oh well, I'll continue using it until I actually see ads.

they don't want us to spy on their terrorists they have been taking in. ;)

Read the tos. It's so short, and there's holes in it. It's what they're not talking about that is concerning.

There still aren't any adds that I am aware of. They are just sharing user info back and forth which they promised not to do.
