I am going to Microcenter tomorrow and picking up a motherboard and a cpu. Gotta love MC deals, cpu is 30$ less than neweggs price AND if you buy a motherboard, you get 30$ additional off the price of the motherboard as a bundle. So with that being said, I can spend 260$ on a motherboard that will cost me 230$. Anything at the price point stand out for a 6700k that will be overclocked? This is going to be my main rig for the next 3 to 4 years hopefully. Even less than that price I am fine with. 80$ board? Sign me up.

Just didn't know if there were must have motherboards at a certain price. Thinking of Asus mainly. Or should I look at other brands?

Thanks! :)

Your intended use case will determine what the best option is. Gaming, I assume?

You need a Z170 board, but beyond that, what features are important to you will matter more than most other parameters, especially at that price point.

Do you need MATX or ITX? Do you plan on using SLI or Crossfire? Are you particularly hung up on what color the board is (for instance, for use in an exotic case that exposes it)?

Anyway, assuming you can use regular ATX in your case, I like this one:
Micro Center - Computers and Electronics

Gaming build. A little bit of overclocking. Nothing crazy. It is going to be a ATX build. I have a CM Stryker case white. No SLI. Only one 1070gtx. I guess I am looking for something that is stable and has decent UEFI features to oc with.

Assuming they have it at your location, I might go with this one.
Micro Center - Computers and Electronics

I've used other models from the Sabertooth line in extremely abusive conditions at work. They're the most pain-free motherboards I can remember using.

That one would probably even look pretty cool with your white case. :)

That last one... I don't think you can overclock with H170 chipsets, can you?

Oh right. That chipset can't overclock. I threw it there as consideration for a cheaper option since apparently OP is okay with an $80 board too.

Look at the rig in my sig...

Been going strong since Feb, neveranottaproblemo :)

Just curious how much VCORE is your 6700k is pushing to reach these 4.7?

thanks

I'm curious too, my chip needs about 1.40V to run 4.7 stably on My Gigabyte Z170 gaming 7 and it generates significant amounts of heat doing it. I've got it running [email protected] every day at the moment because it just runs so much cooler and quieter. That last 4% performance doesn't matter that much to me anymore, I must be getting old ;).
