Here's a nice comparison graph - OC'ed 1080 vs OC'ed 980Ti in a bunch of different games:
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 im Test (Seite 12)
Bottom line, no, just isn't worth pursuing at this point for those of us with OC'ed 980Ti's. I'll just sit tight till the 1080Ti or something like it arrives. Apples to apples, chasing a 10-15% performance bump just isn't worth it to me.
Nope. I was thinking about it, but now that prices on used 980Tis have started to tank there's no point -- I'd likely be in like $600 after reselling my cards to get back in to SLI, and that's just stupid.
Instead I got a bigger PSU for way less cash (picked up a 1200w off a fellow [H], should be here tomorrow) and will be pushing my OC. The 750w Corsair was holding out fine with the mild factory OC my cards run, but I doubt it will be up to task for what Im planning to push.
Looks like the higher the res you're running the smaller the 1080's lead vs. an OCed 980Ti, and while I'm not quite at 4K (where it looks to be a dead heat in a lot of cases) I'm close, at 3440x1440. So I'll stick with my cards for now.
I've never ran SLI or Crossfire. I did use multiple cards in machines over the years, but that was for multi monitor support.Would have to get a whole new system to support it. Plus it doesn't work worth a shit in most titles (as I'm sure you know). Would be lying to say I'm not still strangely tempted -- I ran Tri-SLI with 8800 GTXs back in the day. It was horrible, almost useless... but some small, stupid part of me still misses it.
