The GTX 1080 Is Real

GP100 (or possibly, GP102 without FP16) is clearly NV's answer to Vega, just like GM200 was NV's answer to the Fury X.

Vega will release early 2017 offering a solid X% performance over the 1080, then NV will release the GP102 as the 1080ti offering X+Y% at a better price/performance, then AMD will match it. That's just how it always goes.

Yeah the 1080Ti is the only next thing I could see coming (aside from some form of possible Titan that I would never buy). Will hang onto the 980Ti until then I think and see how it goes, hopefully its pretty good price/performance.

If not who knows when the next cards will be out, and I wouldn't want to grab a 1080 late in its life - unless it was super cheap I guess.

No doubt about it, the 1080 is not a particularly attractive upgrade if you already have an overclocked 980ti. It really wasn't intended to be.

I'm a little surprised to see that they a haven't hopped on the HBM bandwagon. Wasn't that what they were saying back when AMD were talking about their HBM products, that they'd jump on it in the next generation? Well, this is the next generation, right? :p

HBM isn't limited to just 4GB, AMD could have added more HBM stacks but that would increase the complexity and probably the cost of the package. So they went the dynamic ram route instead.

It's real.

While the GTX 980ti had a .75 to 1 hp to weight ratio, increases in bandwidth have allowed the 1080 to get a minimum of 1 to 1. With the upcoming polaris release and an anticipated range of .5 to .8 hp to weight ratio we will have to see if they can tip the scales in their favor ;)

Anyone have insight into the new "fast sync" feature? Says it eliminates tearing with low latency, but isn't g-sync... could NV finally be bowing to the inevitable and supporting VESA adaptive sync? (Please.... please!)

Infuriatingly, Videocardz declined to put up the whole slide deck, so we only have that short paragraph to go on.

Looking at P100 I would guess big Pascal will be 30-40% faster than the 1080. Similar to 980 -> 980ti/Titan X.

I might be holding onto my Titan X for another 2-3 years... 50-60% isn't enough of an increase for me unless VR comes out with something more attractive. (No screen door effect, ect.)
