So I managed to get my hands on a 4790k for ~90$ a few months ago, and now I'm looking for a high end board to slap it in, but is it just me, or are all the high end ones discontinued?

I haven't built a system in going on 10 years, so I can't remember if they just discontinue old sockets whenever a new one comes out? Am I tripping?

No you aren't tripping. This happens a lot. They run out of boards to sell and by then the new socket/chipset is out. All you end up with are low end Asrocks on newegg.

Looks like the used market is for me then. Don't have a problem with that, just thought I was going crazy.

Plenty of Z97 boards available on Newegg and Micro Center had a lot when I went there last. I picked up the same CPU and got an MSI Z97 board for $80 which has been working great. Not sure what features you're looking for, personally I think the very high end boards are a waste for most users.

I'm personally looking for something that's gonna handle as big an overclock as I can get out of my CPU, and I also want it to look good, I like form and function.

Just a few I found in stock just now.

That's crazy, because I was looking at that MSI z97A G6 board literally 2 hours ago on NE and it was sold out.

My post must have triggered a restock haha

Thank you for the link sir, much appreciated.

Just head into PCHound.com and use the LGA 1150 search filter and it will show you what all else there is to choose from.

If you use HoverHound.us, it will look up products at Amazon while you are shopping Newegg. If the HH button is not shown on the Newegg page (which it does not sometimes when a product is OOS) click the green H in the URL bar to search it on Amazon.

For complete disclosure, I am half owner in both PC Hound and Hover Hound.

That's been a gigantic help, thanks

Your honesty is great as well, thank you for that too. This forum rocks.

I'm in the same boat, for the second time. Just before this thread was created I was looking and couldn't find one I wanted. Now I really need one, and there are even less. I should have snagged one then. (mainly looking for Amazon Prime stock) I just grabbed an Asus Z97-A usb 3.1, but really wanted better audio.
