So I been searching around, and I know there will be mixed opinions but, why did they stop making skateboarding games? Used to love playing Tony Hawk games but now there is basically nothing out there, specifically for the PC. I know before the games for PC were ports but they still were fun I thought,

TLDR:

Want a new skateboarding game for the PC.

Damn... Used to spend HOURS AND HOURS playing THPS with buddies back in middle school on the Dreamcast

Kids stopped skatebording and it became illegal I stopped at about age 22 or so....

Thrasher for the PS1 was my favorite that and Skate or Die

My roommate used to have the full on 720 standup arcade game in our house. That thing was awesome!

Illegal? ! Lol
I see kids on them all the time at the skate park. Then there are those long board people...

Thrasher was a game us real skaters defended with a PASSION back in 97(?). Incredible soundtrack to this day btw.... Still got my disc somewhere in a box.

And for me, skating fell out of favor around age 19. Mostly because to continue progressing, we all acknowledged we'd have to break A LOT of bones

I actually completely RUINED my first gaming rig from a board-related collision.... (stoned 17 year olds doing what we called "360 heelflip contests" in my bedroom, I'm sure you can figure it out)

*memories*

Tony Hawk HD on 360 is alright (with the THPS 3 dlc: Airport level etc). But, it's still just old "arcadey" Tony Hawk etc.

I don't see a single double kick tail....

EDIT: Ok, I see two....

Shocked you don't have a Alien Workshop - slick. Those were the go-to in the mid 90's.Too thin and concave for me, I was a Hook-Ups cat back then lol (I know, I know)

You're def OG.

Mike Vallely? I wore his Etnies for almost a decade. Rubber ollie guard etc. Before that, we used to duct tape our Vans to cover the hole lol

Towards the end, it was a 7.88x31.5 Blind deck (solid concave but not too much), custom Black Magic-cut grip tape, Venture 7.75s (they cracked easy but f*ck Indy/GK, too heavy) / Destruco's were alright too, and ofc China Bones (Swiss were too fast for me)

2nd EDIT: This is the most I've thought about skating in 8ish years. Good stuff!

Funny, yeah it's been a while. It was all Vans and Converse when I was into it, and definitely duct taped the ollie hole. If I didn't I'd go through shoes way too fast and mom and dad weren't going to keep buying them :)

I skated up until about 1988, so the Alien deck was past my time. I had a lot of the decks in the pics, so I tend to pick up ones that mean something to me. My 1st was the Billy Ruff and my last was the Jason Jesse.

Good times.

I skated up until about 1988,

You win sir.

94 for me....

Was Birdhouse even around back then? I noted the deck....

I tried/bought one in my 3rd-4th year, snapped it within a month.

88 is def old school man. Back when it was pool-hoppin' and gymnastics instead of street tricks. Respect.

Thanks :) We actually did do a lot of street skating along with half and quarter pipes, with an occasional swimming pool. The best tricks back then were really nothing like what I've seen today. I must admit, Rodney Mullen is still just as amazing as he was 30 years ago.

Birdhouse wasn't around back then, but I've noticed some of the skater's brands have changed hands. Kevin Staab was Sims, then PRS and then Birdhouse. Mine was a Sims.

All those decks are reissue's, so they're not that bad. The Staab was the most expensive at $300, but most of them are $100. I still have a handful of my originals, but half of them are broken in half and and the other half are beat to shit. That many originals in good shape would cost a small fortune tbh.

Skate 1 and Skate 2 were pretty good.

Had a different camera angle and took a more realistic approach at skating than Tony Hawk.

TBH, I never played thrasher. Ill look into it.

In Skate 1 and 2-

Indeed there were a few bugs that were annoying (Like getting stuck or tricks not registering)
The controls were pretty good. Not the best, but when you pulled off good tricks, you feel you've deserved it.

Some pretty bad ass tricks in that game. lol

I remember riding the side of a wall for like 60 feet after bombing this massive hill. It was awesome.

The best way I can describe each games controls/feel:

THPS 1-3 were "arcade-like".

Thrasher was "technical".

Skate 1&2 were "elegant".

Anyone could play Tony Hawk.... And given a couple of days, most gamers caught on to Skate.... Thrasher had a since of timing and proper angle/landing-mechanics that made it the closest thing to a skate sim as we've ever had.

Even landing a 180 kickflip took effort in Thrasher.

OP, you might try T&C Surf Designs. It's pretty good. Story is in-depth for the genre. Graphics are slightly dated, but not enough to notice really. Soundtrack is fantastic, the tracks using the triangle wave really carry the mood of the skating genre. Easily spend 40-60 hours on this title (not counting side "quests" or achievements).

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 runs great on Dolphin - even with the Mayflash adapter so you can use a wavebird ;)
