Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

Flight model has been updated and is more optimized for the larger ships, its being fine tuned now that new systems are in place for smaller ships (I cannot for the live of me maneuver around the terraformer now), the radar thing is a work in progress to make each of the ships feel unique, I'm guessing you have an Aegis ship like an Avenger and the anomalies, whelp no clue about those.

The "Unreal engine is better" myth keeps getting repeated all the time. I've yet to see any concrete proof showing Unreal is a better engine.
It is common knowledge by now that CR evaluated Unreal, Cryengine and others and decided on Cryengine because it offered the level of fidelity Unreal 4 shows today more than 3 years before it was released.

The speed in which the underlying tech was developed for this demo actually proves how flexible and powerful the game engine is. Or did people forget that the Germany studio responsible for this tech joined CIG less than 6 months ago (July 2015).

Oh nice, the Freelancer update shows that you now board the ship from side hatches and they got rid of the landing strut hatch

Gotta be careful and don't pull the trigger when people are boarding or an "accident" might occur :D

Nice, the redesign of the Freelancer is really going well (imho), I like the organic / alien vibe being subtle...

So I just realised that Super Hornet to Freelancer MIS is actually a free upgrade... Is it just me or does that Super Hornet feel rather over priced (or should I say worse inferior judging by the pledge values)? I'm seriously considering about applying that CCU.

From Sean Tracy in today's Reverse the Verse: 2.1 will have refactored EVA system. It'll be a combination of rag doll and animation (physically correct center of mass and rag doll collision will be used throughout).

He also talks about his background (He created with his brother MechWarrior Living Legends), the inside story of the Star Citizen kickstarter demo (and how CR did pretty much all of it himself), and how he got to CIG.

Fom discord chat Sean Tracy hinted at this being the direction they are aiming with the procedural planetary weather system: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2015/07/10/science/An-Image-of-Earth-Every-Ten-Minutes.html?_r=5

I could listen Sean forever. I just love to hear all that stuff.

You can't use store credits to buy back those melted items apparently.

Probably to foil the black/grey market from profiting as well as preventing abuse of the subscriber discount coupons. Also consider the fact that RSI credits are being sold for as low as 70% of the dollar value in the grey market. There are far too many avenues of exploit there

As an example I have a few hundred packages and ships I can unmelt and there are no restrictions on them whatsoever so I can just resell them to anyone. I'm talking the dirt cheap Aurora MR and LN packages with LTI to boot AND legacy Alpha and Beta, Weekend warrior packages with LTI, plus all kinds of limited ships etc. etc.

P.S: For those that don't know there is a way to make ungiftable ships gitfable again so you can sell/trade then or what have you. You buy a cheap base ship(with cash) and upgrade it using store credit (from melting an ungiftable ship) and since you spent cash to buy the cheap base ship all the store credit bought upgrades don't affect the ability to gift it.

P.P.S: They are aware of the unmelt issue and will work on a solution

Hey guys! I'm sorry for the trouble. We will absolutely change this system, it's just going to take a little work. We've spoken to the web team and there's not an option for just turning on store credit with the current design... so it'll take a little thinking and a new build to make right. (I know you've already figured this out, but there does need to be some balance; perhaps a limited number of times you can unmelt a particular package, or a limited number of unmelts per month. We'll figure it out and report once it's decided!)

2.1 is live on the PTU but the rollout is limited to a certain number of people only just like the initial 2.0 rollout was. It doesn't look like there will be major scale invites since it's only a minor patch.

Nice
Both the Hangar Elevator and the Main Menu “Universes” UI now allows users to select instances (either best available or instances with friends/contacts) after they have selected the location.

Hmm Credits can't be used is sort of lame, as i was planning to use credits that i already have at some point on it.

Seems really off you can melt a ship for credit, but you can not use those same credits to buy back that same ship?

I'll likely use the Digital Scout - LTI package i have as my buyback ccu path, $30 and includes an Aurora MR ($25) as my base ship for my CCU to the Orion upgrade that i have.

Get an additional character / custom npc slot for $5

So looks like Store credits will be an option once they iron it out a little more.

Of my choices for starting my unmelt / CCU chain for my Orion, my choices are the Digital Scout LTI to get a game package/char slot for $5 over the cost of the Orion, or starting with the $80 Gladius LTI And get the Orion $10 under its normal cost as Gladius has a $90 CCU value.

Hmm decisions decisions.

The Reclaimer isnt off the table either instead of the Orion, would be nice to see some more gameplay/design for each of those styles to make a better decision on which to keep.

Mining seems like such a classic role for a space game, and its not really hard to find rocks to eat granted it will be harder to find super rich asteroids but you should still be able to go out and chew up most any rock from junk material which is better than no material, compared to the Reclaimer which imo visually is the more bad ass looking ship that actually has to go out and find wrecked ships for collection and processing but ship wreckage is full of high value materials so you know at a minimum you are getting some really good salvage and metals from it tho harder to find.

w00t, got my PTU invite! Loaded all my Aegis ships into the hangar to grab some screens.

I guess doing some IC bug reports fast-tracked me on the PTU this time.

Sabre pics: https://imgur.com/a/y4PRq

Not mine. I've got a sabre upgrade but haven't decided to apply it yet - it's a one-way trip from a SH, and having a SH lets me swap easily to a MIS or Gladiator. I'm not sure I want to ditch that capability just yet.

Finally got around to looking at the Reliant variants a bit, really liking the skirmisher putting off that B-Wing vibe slightly.

Glad they added a turret to the other side of the ship to balance it out a bit, i could see me impulse wanting one of them, so i made sure to snag a free 315p upgrade to one.

maybe keep that on the back burner until i see how it flies / is hangar ready ect.

Wow, that Sabre looks amazing. So, I've been thinking of crossing my AMD Mustang to a Reliant skirmisher (all those guns!), but I'm also wondering if the racing mustang will be worth keeping (rare / fast)... Any thoughts from the corporation/

I am keeping 1 AMD Mustang, not CCUing it until they say for certain it can be obtained in game skin and all, if you can't ever get the skin for it in game then ill keep it as is, an AMD mustang.

I have 2 other AMD mustang packages i CCU'd, 1 is sitting as a Sabre and the other is sitting as a Super Hornet.

Lol, why didn't they do it that way from the get go? What a disgustingly transparent bullshit cash grab.

What the hell, I'm out of the loop. So you can't use store credit to get your ships back but you can use real money and they are giftable? Is this april fools day lol...

Anyway I had to put a ticket into CIG to see how to get my ship back that I used coupon credit for since it seems it's lost. Apparently I have a shit ton of items (low 100's) I can get back including 4 or so $20 anniversary packages. Let me know if anyone wants them. I ended up with 11 or so Omega packages I got for around $15, so I got rid of those old packs a while back.

You get a Constellation loaner in the meantime.

The Caterpillar is as they call it "on the wheel" being actively worked on as it goes through the ship pipeline. This is the latest extensive progress report: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eY6nJOLn6dk

That video was the same one from earlier in the year.

Further, what was shown in that video from earlier in the year was stuff that was already developed in 2014.

Yawn.

Hey Smoeki,

Can I have one of those anniversary packages please?

Cheers.

Are the anniversary packages the Aurora? I know a guy that missed the kickstarter and wouldn't mind gifting one...

Just giving them away? I'll take one, if thats the case. All I have is a lonely 300i...

Hell yeah hook a brother up

whoa there fellers lol. I didn't mean for free, sorry for the misunderstanding.

No I mean I'd be willing to unmelt them at $20 (at cost) each and since they would be giftable I can send them to you afterwards. Unfortunately that means you would have to send me money over paypal so you don't get credit toward your pledge level.

Yeah they are just the basic Aurora MR Starter package. 6 month insurance. Both SQ42 & Starcitizen

If anyone wants to buy them send me a PM, any of longtime org members will get priority if it comes down to it.

I used the buy back pledge to get an Aurora with LTI that I melted for store credit a few months back. Always hated doing that since it had LTI, and now plan on using it to CCU to something else later on.

I'm tempted to do the same thing to the Aurora LX LTI I melted ages ago.

PTU update is out.
I got disconnected from my session, then got a "version mismatch" error. Welp, 2.1.0-308401 is now downloading...

Fixed an issue with the weapons on the Freelancer, where after first shot they could not be fired again.

Also fixed the accompanying permanent audio loop.

Do those $20 anniversary packages get me into the game? Or are they just for a ship or something?

they would get you into the game, they include a ship, as well as the single player campaign access and the persistent universe access.
