Nexus M ( 2015 ) Smartphone

Jerry Rig is the real deal. Not the first time he's been mentioned and he subjects all his devices to the same punishment. Whether you like the results or not is another issue.

Can't say he did the same test to the iPhone 6S. He used a razorblade and sandpaper, never used a glass cutter/picks. The overall components are a lot different also (AMOLED being full plastic compared to a standard LCD; neither will ever be subjected to flame). He also conveniently has never reviewed a 6S+ which could produce similar results. Either way, out of the many, many videos out there, his one is the only one demonstrating such an issue.

People like tearing down things when they feel threatened.

Odd that a Nexus device is in this situation for a change lol.
And yes - I'm typing from a 6P right now.

A few more observations now that I've spent some more time with the 6P:

- Night time photography is really damn good. Auto focus is very consistent as well (something my OnePlus One had a huge problem with). Day time shots are about the same as my 2015 Moto G. The 6P only falters in very low light bordering on total blackness. The only other phone I've owned that had night time shots as good as this was my Nokia Lumia 925 (and that had OIS and Carl Zeiss glass). I'll see about getting some pictures up at some point.

- LTE performance on Cricket feels consistently better than my OPO and Moto G, though I'm still not sure of that's some sort of placebo effect or not. Web pages at least seem to load faster, but Youtube videos don't seem to load all that much faster.

- Fingerprint scanning is a thing I will never give up again (though I still prefer a PIN).

- One thing I miss about CyanogenMod is how it handles PIN unlocking. On CM you can set it to automatically unlock when you enter the PIN, but on stock Android you have to enter the PIN and then tap the unlock button. Its only 1 extra tap but its still annoying, especially while driving.

- I've decided to keep sRGB mode turned on. The screen loses some vibrancy but its much easier on the eyes.

- Battery life is quite good. Not as awesome as the Moto G, but still pretty good. Yesterday I unplugged it at around 8am and by 10pm I had roughly 49% battery left (by comparison my Moto G never got below 60% battery over the course of a day, regardless of how much I used it). Most of the battery got eaten during the evening when I was streaming a lot of Youtube videos. Before that I was mostly web browsing and streaming music. That was only 1 day though, so I'll need more time to get a better grasp on this.

- You know, that camera hump on the back actually has some practical uses. It makes it a tad easier to take the phone out of my pocket (because it gives you an anchor to grab on to) or pick it up off a table (because its ever so slightly raised, its easier to get your fingers around it).

- The power button sensitivity some reviewers complained about doesn't seem to be an issue with me. The only time I've accidentally pressed the power button was when I was taking the phone out of the cup holder in my car and I grasped it in such a way where one of my fingers was on the button as I was picking it up.

- The speaker imbalance I noticed earlier is....weird. It can be more or less pronounced depending on the Youtube video. On the whole its not a huge deal, at least its not something I'm going to return the phone over. I feel like this should be fixable in software (in fact, it'd be nice Google let us adjust speaker balance somewhere in the settings).

Thanks to everyone posting there thoughts. I wish I could justify the $$$ but I can't over my LG3 running asop rom

How comprehensive is Nexus Protect? Do they only give you a new phone if it's literally fucking destroyed, or could I make a claim if I saw signs of screen burn-in or something?

I'm sure you can do an insurance claim for anything you like and they'll gladly take your $79 deductible to replace it. If you see bad burn-in during the 1-year warranty period, then you can just get it replaced under warranty.

If anyone has a 6P on Verizon, please post experiences with reception. I'm pretty set on getting this phone in the next month or so when it because more available.

Does your car have bluetooth?

If so set it is as a trusted device and you can bypass the pin altogether.

DAMN YOU! I get mine tuesday, I can't wait, thanks for the reviewage

Those picks are a very sharp point to be putting into the screen which create specific stress points. The fact that the glass cracked from it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone with a modicum of sense. Then again people are shocked that you can exert a ton of force and break them so I may be giving people too much credit. Bendgate needs to die already.

Bend tests need to die along with auto safety ratings.
You seem like the type of person that would sue the auto manufacturer because your car didn't come away from a 100 mph head-on without a scratch

Same reason phone manufacturers shouldn't honor the warranty if the phone is bent in your pocket because it's designed for your hand and not for your pocket.

it's designed to be used by the average consumer, which just so happens to put the phone in their skin tight pants!:confused::confused:

Except in this case it wasn't bent in a pocket....it was in the hands of a man whose hands were shaking and knuckles were white from so much effort. Stop stretching and stop trolling the 6P threads with this conspiracy B.S. It's sad and pathetic.

If you fail to comprehend that bending it in hand is to simulate the pressure exerted in the pocket then maybe you should find a softforum to cater to you because it's not going to get watered down.

I've had my Nexus 5x for a few days now and I'm just going to post my first impressions. I got the Carbon 16GB model (more then enough space for me).

- Build quality seems okay, just about what you would expect for a sub $400 device. I actually really like the way it looks, sleek but in kind of a boring fashion. It doesn't stick out, it's not flashy, it just looks like that generic smartphone no one notices, and I like that.

- I love the lightweight it has. The Nexus just barely manages to be able to be used one handed, but any bigger and the device would be too large for my tastes, the weight really helps here. It's very light.

- The screen is very good. 1080p is crisp and clear, and it gets nice and bright, very easy to read.

- The speaker, while not spectacular, is serviceable and gets the job done. Having it being front firing definitely helps a lot. Audio sounds okay, nothing special, speaker phone sounds good.

- Call quality has been really good, everyone comes in loud and clear, I use my phone for a ... phone a lot, and this part is particularly important to me.

- Battery life is good. I'm able to hit 4 hours of SOT without too much trouble. I'm a light-to-moderate user, if I turned my brightness up and really used it heavily I think I could still hit 3 hours SOT. If I really use it frugal and turn the brightness down, 5 hours SOT seems obtainable, but its still a one day battery, which is fine.. I place my phone on the charger every single night anyways. Doze really seems like it boosts the standby time pretty good.

- The fingerprint scanner is very nice.. I thought I wouldn't like being on the back, but I actually like it a lot, it's super accurate and unlocks very fast. I've had to have one read error.

I can't weigh in the camera because I've yet to use it, I actually hardly ever use my smartphone cameras, which is why I usually never need anymore then 16GB models, but this is important to a lot of people and I know the cameras on the Nexus models are great this year.

The vibrate motor, while a lot say they don't like how loud it is and the way it sounds, I actually don't mind it. It has kind of a robotic sound to it almost, it's hard to explain, but I kind of like it. It doesn't rattle like the Nexus 6 does, it doesn't feel cheap, it's just loud and sounds different. This will be based on user preference.

My cons,

While I know the phone is cheaper, the back of my phone has a little squish to it when you press along the back, especially around the Nexus logo, you can kind of press into it and it pushes in. It's not too alarming, but I'm wondering if others Nexus 5x does this, if anyone could weigh in on that, I would appreciate it.

Another knock on the build quality, the volume and power buttons are mushy and don't have the great tactile feel to them, not the end of the world, I've read plenty of threads since I can be a bit OCD, and seems to be fairly common.

All in all, I like this phone, and if for some reason I end up not liking it and want to return it, I'll just get a iPhone 6S and call it a day, but so far the first impressions on this device are better then any other android phone I've tried this year.

I'm a fucking noob; does the Nexus 6P's SIM slot require a tool to open? Need to be prepared when the phone comes.

Every phone I've seen comes with its own SIM ejection tool. Worst case use a paper clip or thumb tack.

Lol yes there's a tool in the box.

My nexus 5 feels absolutely tiny now - its only been 3 days haha.

Nobody is this stupid, you are clearly trolling.

Why are you still wasting hormones when you could be asking...

- If the standard Google or Huawei warranty covers it
- How long to get a replacement
- Will they provide a refurb or new replacement

Tad late to the party regarding this video. This is pretty much the only video demonstrating durability issues, there are many now that basically debunk this entirely.

As much shit as everyone has been giving jerry rig everything the lighter would do absolutely nothing to the integrity of the phone for how little time he put it on there. The glass scratches are also nowhere near where it bent the crack in his glass also ran from lower corner to upper corner not from side to side the area he bent it at has full integrity as far as what was seen in the video. Having looked at the other phones he tested in the same manner I have determined he is blind and when he did those burn tests he cant see the black spots he left on the screen that stayed longer than he thought...

The idea of the bend test is only executable properly if you do it with a machine where you can give a specfic force applied to the phone before failure to ben it in the manner demonstrated in the video is about the same as ripping a phone book in half.

Should get mine today. Hope I can cut my sim right. Anyhoo.

When I get my 6p I will put it in a vice and hit it with a hammer drill just to prove it is solid enough to sit in my pocket and get rubbed by my index finger.

I've been using a Nexus 6P for a few days now. It's easily the best Android device I've ever owned. Quality wise it's on par with the iPhone 6s Plus.

It's here!!!
Got my SIM installed, just used scissors to cut it down to a nano and viola! Connected right up to Verizon.
Build quality is perfect, screen is perfect, seems very fast.
Very happy overall. closest thing to an Apple 6s Plus with android.
Feels great in the hand, not too big at all.

Let me know how reception is on Verizon. I saw some people complaining about Verizon reception on the old N6 and am curious how the 6P is in this area since I haven't seen any reviews address it directly on Verizon.

Also, let us know if you have the weird speaker volume imbalance some other people seem to be having, where one of the speakers is louder than the other. I'm sure it can be fixed in software though.

Just made my first call on verizon. Comparing it to the GS5 it is MUCH better. I usually get decent reception, around 2 bars of 4g but the GS5 call quality was not great, IMHO.

The call audio was very clear. I was pretty impressed actually.

Am playing "into the Mystic" in google music and the sound separation seems even. The speakers are excellent. Like having a bluetooth speaker. This is awesome, as I was sick to death of the little shit speaker on the GS5.

I never used the crappy fingerprint sensor on the GS5, it was so terrible.
The 6P fingerprint scanner is so accurate and fast it is perfect. you touch the spot and almost instantly the phone unlocks. PERFECT.
This is a very pleasent surprise.

I'm hooked on this feature for phones. I doubt I'll get another phone without it.

What's the excuse now Nexus sheep?

He makes it look too easy though like bending a Hershey's bar.

What's the excuse now Nexus sheep?

No need for an "excuse". The Verge sums it up well;

The Verge said:
DON'T BEND YOUR $499 PHONE ON PURPOSE

While it appears that the Nexus 6P may bend if, well, you start bending it, it's still the best Android phone you can spend your money on. Just don't bend it on purpose. Or bend any smartphone on purpose. There's no reason for that.

Which goes back to my previous comment:

It's a non-issue for any phone.

Inb4 you still think sitting on it will bend it.

Funny you linked The Verge since they're the lowest form of sheep.

I wouldn't be surprised to wake up tomorrow and see Jerry's new video bending two 6Ps, one in each pocket, without hands using core abdominal muscles that are way stronger than arms. Didn't you learn anything from APFT or were you exempt?

I ordered the 6P last night and got an ETA of November 18th. It's already shipped and is being delivered tomorrow. WTF?

Either they got a boat load shipment in or it's from cancellations.

I had a 6P in hand last week but wasn't impressed then the video came out so glad I didn't impulse buy. All my apps work fine in Lollipop so not anxious to run into apps that need to be updated. I'll let someone else have the joy and don't mind being the second wave to get it.

Maybe with bend gate, and poor sales the 1st Qtr they'll reduce the price, and finally put in U.S. carrier stores LOL

At this point, I'm happy waiting for the SD820 phones fue out in a couple months.

Come on HTC don't die on us yet, hit a home run with the One M10.
