22-Way Comparison Of Graphics Cards On SteamOS

Wait, lets play a game:

Before I click on the link, I'm guessing this is an incredibly Nvidia friendly article....

Just a hunch.

You win.

The benchmarks showing GTX 760 beating a fury.

Yes, Fury.

15 nVidia cards, 7 AMD cards.

In one line: there are just about as many nVidia cards below Fury in performance as AMD's.

It's almost like a well known fact that AMD has terrible Linux drivers!

nvidia beating amd in linux games like like Gabourey sibide being under 200 pounds on the moon

Who cares, other than the linux hippies who refuse to play any games on windows to avoid giving into the man.

 don't go so far, DX12 will make driver importance Null and AMD will have 150% performance improvement over Nvidia:eek:..... oh wait:p.. is linux:(..

"Pretty much as one would expect, GTX 960 is the current sweet spot mid range card. AMD is actually even worse off than I thought.
Any money they save having shitty linux drivers will be lost in poor sales and maybe more importantly lost reputation in a whole community, which includes many game developers.
If their goal is to force gamers to windows, I guess it's working, but it's not AMD getting the sales, it's Nvidia there too."

Lol.

VULKAN says hi.

Vulkan is potentially interesting. I hope it's all people are hyping it up to be and then actually gets some good developer support. I also hope DX12 is even close to what people are hyping it up as. Both Nvidia and MS could use a good kick in the ass and some real competition.

I run both Linux and Windows, I'm by no means a hippie (wasn't Steve Jobs a hippie, wouldn't that make the OSX brigade the hippies), and yes I would like to avoid giving Microsoft any more of my $$ just so they can monopolize the marketplace.

The only thing I actually use my Windows PC for is playing games, which it does very well at 4k.

You can never argue that more choice is a bad thing. And it has been known for quite some time now that AMD Linux drivers suck - I believe it's something they're working on.

Nobody plays games on "Linux" but SteamOS is solely designed to play games.
AMD has an excuse if their "Linux" drivers suck but now with SteamOS it's kind of a problem.

If zero SteamBoxes are sold, then yeah... Who cares.

SteamOS is a Linux distro, there is no difference between SteamOS and Ubuntu, Linux Mint or derivatives with the exception of the desktop manager. Every game available for SteamOS will run equally as well on any of the previously mentioned distro's as downloaded directly off the steam store.

It's by no means a a deal breaker, you just run Nvidia hardware. On your Xbox or PS4 you have no alternate GPU options whatsoever and that doesn’t seem to be a problem.

I game on Linux equally as much as I game on Windows, my Linux rig is a far more capable gaming machine than literally anything running OSX for less than half the outlay.

It's pretty obvious that AMD is trying to undermine the Steam Machines effort. I guess I can understand since SMs pose some competition to XB1 and PS4.

I like the way the very first benchmark shows nVidia's 3 year old 680 beating their current flagship Titan X. Hopefully this will spur both companies into paying more than lip-service to Linux drivers.

If you run both you are not a Linux hippie. The only group crap Linux gaming performance hurts now are Linux hippies who refuse to bend the knee and run games on windows that has more support. That may become more viable later with vulkan, but right now the Linux gaming landscape is too crippled to rely on.

Someone else please explain CPU limited (drivers or game code) and why even the 760 is right there with the Titan X.

Understanding that is not as sensational as saying "3 year old 680 beating their current flagship".
CPU limited situations typically still show the faster card on top, even if it's only by <1fps. The benchmarks are full of other anomalies, like the 970 besting the 980 in CS:GO.

It's obvious it's CPU limited.

The only people that would really make such a claim are those that have either never run a Linux distro or those that haven’t run a modern Linux distro in something other than VM for a considerable period of time. Because in the last two years the number of games available on the Linux platform has literally exploded, and only those that have been using the platform for quite some time would realize just how much Linux is gaining traction as a gaming platform no matter what statistics may claim.

How does this guy have so many graphics cards?

I should start a review site....just so nvidia can send me some gpus!

Considering how many hours of work you have to put in to a site like that, it's not really a financially viable way to accumulate hardware.
