It looks as though OUYA's CEO was the first casualty of the Razer buyout.

Julie Uhrman, CEO of OUYA, has announced that she'll be leaving the Android gaming company that she co-founded. The executive took to Twitter to make the statement, spending the better part of an hour thanking employees, developers and backers.

I can't wait to find out how much Razer paid. Probably something like a $20 Applebee's gift certificate and a 12 pack of Bud Light.

I can't think of a worse waste of money than the entire OUYA project. What a joke. I wonder what Razer wants with their software.

This woman always just seemed incredibly clueless in interviews, like she didn't even really understand her own product.

OUYA seemed lame as it was seeing how it never caught on. Now will it brick itself like Razer keyboards? :p

Honestly surprised there were any backers to this project. It was plainly obvious this would fail.

Agreed...Most everyone knew it was going nowhere...except into the principal's pockets...;) Not bad...fade away into the sunset with a cool $Mil or two in the bank.

As to why it was funded in the first place, never underestimate the allure of something for nothing--it works in politics (Democrats use it, mainly) and it works for flim-flam artists everywhere. "Send us $50 and we'll send you something worth $500 when we're done!" Amazing how often that works. If people weren't greedy it never would, but that's human nature for you...

my OUYA still happily runs NES/SNES emulators and plex on my bedroom TV

Seems pretty neat for things like streaming or emulators or even small games... plus its tiny.. pretty cool concept imo. I feel the memory level would hinder it though.

I wonder what her net worth is post-departure. I doubt it will make me feel bad for her.

If they would have focused more on general computing tasks like word processing and lightweight image editing with a program similar to MS Paint out of the box they would have probably been a lot more successful. Everyone does games and most of them are boring so there's really not a lot of compulsion to get yet another stupid gaming platform. Offer something more useful alongside it like a good Office suite.

IIRC there were supposed to be a newer version of the ouya with more powerful hardware, but it never came out. Not sure that would have helped though.

Ouya was a lousy idea, with bad execution, that never caught on and rightly so. A mini-console that only plays phone games just doesn't have a market, people already own smartphones, why would they want a gimped one with no touchscreen?

Seriously, fuck Julie Uhrman. About as clueless as one could get and a great example of a rip-off artist.
