GTX 980 Ti Classified.

being that the Galaxy HOF 980 ti is also 699, I assume this is the price point for super high end air cooled cards. which is awesome :)

Is there anything in particular that sets apart the EVGA Classified from a Gigabyte G1 or MSI Gaming 980 Ti?

I mean in reference to the comments that $699 is "cheap", considering it's $20-30 more expensive than those others.

I wish I were rich like the rest of you. $699 is not cheap to me.

Why would someone pay more for same acx2.0 cooler is beyond my comprehension. Yes the card will overclock slightly more but that cooler doesn't really cool better than reference. Anything I am missing in the classified version?

The wide PCB version usually features 1 or 2 more heatpipes, in the past the fans were bigger too (I think) but I might be wrong about that.
Probably a beefier PCB, more phases and all that fancy stuff. GPUs are cherry picked.

Most people put these under water. This ACX model will still be vastly inferior to the Twin Frozr V or WindForce models, most likely... has always been the case.

Classified models are usually upwards of $200 more expensive. This card being $700 (vs $650 MSRP) is definitely unexpected.

Well at least the description shows exact same acx 2+ as their other models. Looks slightly larger cooler in pictures though so you might be right.

I think I will be fine with MSI gaming cards since don't have space for water.

Hopefully the Lightning is priced around the same ballpark as this. The price is not "cheap", but historically these cards are drastically higher priced than reference.

I agree with Tainted on the differences. If you look at EVGA site here it lists the comparison: EVGA comparison chart near the bottom.

You will notice it has double bios, 14+3 power phase (instead of 6+2) and also changes to 2x8 pin power connectors. Usually the components used such as capacitors are of a higher grade with more exotic materials. I do agree the they could have beefed up the cooler to something a little more like the G1. So yeah, put it under water and it should overclock like a dream, or at least power shouldn't be a problem lol.

Thanks guys I ordered one :)

I trust eVGA service. Weird, the card is not listed in the eVGA store. Should be a big jump from a GTX-680 :)

Wondering if Amazon made a mistake with the price?

Damn just placed an order for 2 of these since it is costing me 20 bucks shipping on Amazon so 1430 to get it in my home whereas, MSI from bhphoto was costing me 1425 bucks with 83 shipping.

Let's hope no coil whine and decent fans allow for maintaining the high stock clocks :)

GPUs are cherry picked.

Cherry picked, as in tested for the advertised clocks and nothing more ;) . You're still at the mercy of luck with what you get. Sure phases and better PCB help get better clocks vs a standard PCB, but it won't turn a turd into gold.

The Classy, with the intro of the Kingpin cards, has becomed noting more than another card into EVGA's lineup as are the SC, FTW and whatever nomenclature they come up with.

Very Temping for $700, but the STRIX is clocked higher, better cooler and looks better, potentially at a cheaper price.
I'm waiting on pricing from the STRIX and Kingpin before I make a decision.

The guys on the Overclock forum said the Kingpin 980 is heavy so it might be a motherboard warp the only thing I don't like about it is the three power connectors and the weight factor.

Maybe the Classified is a lighter version?

Yeah it's going to be Heavy more so then the regular 980 Kingpin I don't think it's plated copper.

Based on computex pictures it looks like all copper to me, yes?

The cooling solution is a copper mine, with a large all-copper base, from which 8 mm-thick copper heat pipes convey heat to a copper-fin array; which is ventilated by a pair of temperature-activated 100 mm spinners. The company didn't disclose clock speeds, but is hopeful of selling the fastest GTX 980 Ti in the market, which means its clock speeds could be in the same ball park as ZOTAC's GTX 980 Ti AMP Extreme.

Damn, this upgrade seems to be getting expensive by the minute. Any idea on Kingpin pricing?

Was it ever actually in stock?

Or did Amazon just throw up the SKU early?

Price seems pretty fair. Considering the G1 is the same.
That all copper heat sink looks sexy

Just bought Seiki's 40 4k monitor and had planned to pick up a couple Ti's once I'd sold my 30" and 980 SC, so I 0% financed a couple of these. Let's hope they're in stock soon.

Kingpin looks sexy, but I've blown enough money already! Got to draw the line some where.

I have an ACX 2.0 GTX 980 Ti (the SC+ not the classified), the temperature is not much better (I reach 78-80 in games, benchmarks, etc.) but it is pretty damned quiet. And it boost clocks to 1304, but I dunno how that compares to reference.

For what I understand the fans will not spin until reaching 60C. Is that true?

I find it very odd so many of you care about the high end cards coolers when you mention in the same sentence the fact that you'll be watercooling them. Whats the point?

Nobody in the thread has actually said anything like that. It was mentioned that people usually buy the higher-end cards that have improved voltage regulation, extra power connectors, better PCBs etc and put them under water, but you buy those for the overclocking potential not the cooler.
