Intel Retail Edge Summer Deal 2015

yup same shit.

Only for employees :mad::mad::mad:

So go get a crappy retail job so you can get a good price on a processor.

Have fun making $7-$9 an hour.

It is Intel's way of making a crappy job just a little bit less crappy.

I feel bad for the guys in the program who worked for Radio Shack or Tiger Direct they were pretty bummed out.

They're all still pretty crappy, even at the 15/hr I was making in Geek Squad it sucked.

You guys would quit if you seen my job =) I think the Military or Army would of been a better route. Or even a mailman in Alaska

I used to be able to do these when I worked for Apple, but I make 2.5 times as much now than when I did working for Apple so I guess its a good trade off to pay full price for processors now.

Yeah, when I was still doing my undergrad, working at BB part time, getting into retail edge was awesome!

Now with a career it's like whoa! I can actually afford full price! then mortgage kicks in.... damn...

These deals aren't as good as they used to be. You used to be able to score their best motherboard with the highest end CPU for $200. I think the first one I recall doing was the Pentium II 400MHz and a 440BX based motherboard. These were so popular that AMD countered with a deal for $99 which at first used an AMD K6 III CPU and a FIC VA503+ motherboard which is one of the worst motherboards of all time. It was a "Super 7" AT form factor piece of garbage with mismarked silk screening on the motherboard, incorrect manual and incorrect manual addendums that didn't tell you how to properly set the motherboard's onboard jumpers. These pieces of shit were horribly unreliable and to make things worse the AMD CPU added to the bundle wasn't supported by the motherboard.

I remember the VA503+. Ah, the days of the incorrect jumper settings and/or more undocumented settings than was actually on the board and in the manual.

Back in those days, I would say that PC Chips and Super Micro had the absolute worst motherboards. Super Micro motherboards literally had a 90% DOA rate and the PC Chips boards were just buggy pieces of junk.

Just got hired by one of the retailers on that list. Hopefully I can sign up for the program and qualify in time to get in on this deal :x

They just dont give the motherboard option is all. You can still get a 4790k for about $100 through the program which is dirt cheap. Couple that with a cheaper motherboard (or slightly used) and its $200. Plus you dont have to use the Intel board they would sell.

I know the 4790k isnt the top dog but its the todays comparable to the P2 400mhz you talked about.

Just reached "Master" status last night. Little bit cheaper now! Of course, 5930k incoming.

I got a 5930k during the winter deal. I wouldn't mind doing the required activities to get a second one. I certainly would have no use for it.

PM me

About how long does it take to get Apprentice and Master, respectively? And how quickly do they verify employment?

With some companies, you can verify instantly through their online verification.

As far as apprentice and master, just do 50 learning activities. You have 5 more days. Knock out 10 per day. There are many learning activities (check out the processors) that you can probably do without even reading.

Id say to get 50 learning activities done, itll take about 2-3 hours total time.

With the recommendation of going to the bottom of the deal page and knocking out the prerequisites for the deal itself first.

Yes, I forgot about having to do those. You must do the pre-req's for the deal which will count towards your 50 learning activities to achieve apprentice.

Thanks! Just one last thing - do I have to be registered and verified for the IRE program prior to the sale or can I still do it after the sale is live? I don't actually start until next week so I won't have my pay stub available for verification right away.

I bought a Z97 ITX board and dropped a G3258 in the hopes that I could get a Broadwell successor to Devils Canyon. Now that the summer program is out, should I go for the 4790k or wait for the Holiday deal and hope they have Broadwell C/K? Also, I'm kind of wondering if unlocked Broadwell will have anything faster than the 4790k? I saw the recent spec leak on the i7-5775C and am curious how it will perform since it's stock clock is 3.3Ghz not to mention less L3 cache.

Ugh. The same thing I repeat each time I get to an IRE deal. I usually just buy it and build so that I can use it leading up to the next Winter/Summer deal that comes along. I figure I am using the power for whatever I planned for it in the mean time.

Now more to the specs, what is your G3258 doing now? The 4790k will just run circles around it in most aspects but maybe you don't need that. Maybe it is just a filler until whatever you need comes along? What is the setup for? I am going ITX as well for another server to run Plex, some VM's, and just a bunch of everything. I don't foresee the Broadwell stuff doing it so much better I will regret it very much. And if I do, I buy that and drop it in :D

Current use for the ITX box is for gaming. I built it out during the holidays as my new rig to keep for a while. I didn't want to wait for Skylake. I purposefully skipped the Holiday deal in hopes that the summer deal would include Broadwell (didn't know at the time what Broadwell chips would be released). I will probably convert it to a Plex box down the road. I specced it out with high-end supporting hardware for the purpose of swapping GPU's and CPU's without any limitations. Anyways the specs:

G3258 @ 4.5
GTX 660 (filler card until AMD fires back @ Nvidia's 900 series)
Asus Z97 Maximus Impact VII
SanDisk 256GB ssd
16GB of Crucial Ballistix
EVGA Supernova 750 G2
Corsair H50
Corsair Air 240 Case

I'll probably grab the 4790k this time because I'm not sure if Intel will offer unlocked Broadwell chips come the 2015 Holiday deal. I'm thinking they will be offering only Skylake stuff by then.

Spill the beans on that plan. I know ASRock is the only mobo maker to put something like that out because I actually contemplated it for a server build. What were you thinking?

I'm thinking of using it as my dedicated gaming machine and secondary PC.
The X99 ATX build will be converted to a workstation later in the year.

You seem to be more willing to swap out hardware on a more regular basis than I am. I like to build something and use the existing hardware. Probably why I have a Sandy Bridge i3 with 8gb of ram still running hence the new server build. I could have dropped another 8gb of ram and find a i5/i7 1155 to drop in it but when something like that works then I just leave it for a bit. And my wife would kill me with any downtime on it :p

The gpu thing I totally hear ya. The rumor is the 390(X?) will be announced sometime in June so we watch the Nvidia and AMD tennis match until then. I would love a GTX980 but I know the 980ti is around the corner and it would be my luck to happen the week after I buy it. Unlike the server, my main rig I will swap gpu's regularly. It still runs on the 3930k from the deal 2 years ago. Here's to waiting for ddr4 to come down in price.

So I guess it is the F5 game for the rest of today!

Oh! Beat me to it. But I just finished ordering so I have that going for me, which is nice.

Bought a 4790K and a 5930K...again. LOL

Hopefully the Holiday deal will have a different set of processors.

Anyone have access to this and would like to help me out :)
