Notch's Housewarming Party

I'd rather live out in the woods.

If I sold something I did for two-billion, I'd be pretty extravagant too, but yes. I wouldn't be moving to CA. Eff that! Maui perhaps, Bora Bora perhaps... Definitely not CA.

I saw the real estate listing for the property on YouTube before Notch bought it. A lot of that stuff (many of the cars, the Bumblebee statue thing, the candy wall, the James Dean motorcycle, etc.) came with the house.

On another note, I find that wall of firearms and tequila perplexing.

And some people wonder why there is growing backlash against the decadence of the 'elite' while millions lose their homes and struggle to find work.

No one is worth that much stuff, no one.

PS the american dream is a lie.

I will admit that I am jealous of this type of wealth but I am not going to bad mouth the guy for enjoying it the way he sees fit like lots of people on here. He earned it so he can spend it however he likes. Looked like a fun party.

I'm surprised Zedd was there - that seems like a weird thing. Zedd's on OWSLA and plays to a much younger crowd.

These pictures seem pretty depressing :( Guy is 35 and looks 40+, already been divorced and now lives I guess alone? in this huge house. Good luck to him out in LA, hopefully affluenza doesn't hit him too hard and make him stop building/dreaming.

Take a closer look. those "firearms" are all made of glass...

Really? It's the same EVERYWHERE. What do you propose as a solution to entice people to do more for less compensation? The system might be broken, but unless you have a way to fix it, I don't see the point of what you said.

I am just on the edge of struggle and comfort. I make just enough to keep a home, keep my family fed and clothed, occasionally treat ourselves to this or that. I'm not bad off, but I'm not wealthy either. I'm not going to bash someone because he worked hard on something, someone else saw value in it, and gave him what they thought it was worth.

I don't see the issue there. And how do you know he's not donating to worthy causes? What do you know about him period?

Who knows, maybe it is all going up his nose, and maybe he's got 40 hookers there every night, and maybe those cars are just the tip of the iceberg and there are hundreds more in his underground lair. I doubt it though. Even then though, it's his money.

Before the house purchase, I had thought that he'd stay in his country and live out a well-funded, but non-glitzy life. This was based on the small amount of videos I've seen about him. I was wrong. I'm not damning him for it. Stuff like this just doesn't seem like it'd be from the same, somewhat humble, man that I saw in those videos.

Come on. It's his money. He didn't steal it. Let the man enjoy his money the way he wants. You can just force all rich people to do things like Gates or Warren.

You do realize that there are many people in 3rd world countries that look to even the poorest of Americans and think the same way as some of you here. We have roofs over our heads, food to eat, etc. Anything else can be considered "excess". It's all relative.

Also, at the end of the day, everything Notch has here are just things. He'll likely never have any true friends, as most people around him will just be hanging around him for his money.

I'm not saying it life is terrible or anything, I just think it won't be as glorious as many of you think.

Those are coke nails.
She's not the only one doing Coke at that party. Picture labeled Notch_52 about halfway down right side has the hipster guy rubbing it on his gums.

I kind of feels sorry for Notch. Most of the people there look like tools.

Yeah, he kinda moved to the wrong place if that's not what he was looking for.

On the other hand, if he's recently divorced, relatively young, and spent the last several years of his younger life developing games, maybe he wants to live fast and flashy for a while, and let loose. May not be the most constructive or even safe path, but maybe he just doesn't want to get old and say he spent it all in front of a monitor.

Haha the butt-hurt in this thread is making my day :D

Grats to Notch! Enjoy living the dream!

Too right. Lots of people talking with their thousandaire attitudes without knowing what it's like to have a few hundred mil laying around. I would like to think I would just want to disappear after getting that much money, but who knows. Maybe I would turn into a professional douchebag who doesn't give a damn if I blow half a mil on a weekend bender.

You'd never know I was filthy rich until long after you grew close enough to me to call a friend. That's only way you'd ever know for sure that someone liked you for you.

I'd move into a large home across the bay from the woman I love, throwing lavish parties in the hopes that she'd one day walk into one of them.... ...oh... ...wait... I read that somewhere. :D

Few dubstep/electro-house artists there. Kill The Noise (in pic w/ the chick with crazy fingernails) and Dillon Francis. Probably spun as the party as well I would guess.

Yeah, but it's just a really weird display to me. I get this really hillbilly chic vibe from it. Just doesn't flow with the rest of the imagery of the house to me.

Not hating on the guy, but I predict he will be dead broke in <10 years.

He's rich enough not to give a fuck if he has any decorative sense or not

For real... while it may be common place for a software engineer to do well (think $100k-ish/annual well), it's extremely rare for one to come home with the kind of payday that negates the need to work. The guy helped take a novel idea, make it an international success, and managed to capitalize on it before the fickle gaming crowd got bored. If you are hating, it's because you are still slobbing it at a 9 to 5 like the rest of us.

Pretty much, dude caught a lucky break with a idea and now he doesn't have to worry about money ever again. All it took was a quick blurb from Valve at one point to set the whole Minecraft thing off (basically a blog post about a game everyone was playing at the office that wasn't on steam).

Those are coke nails.

Waaay too short, maybe if that were a guy I could agree but its a woman with short fingernails.
Coke nails are typically longer.
She just looks like she unique finger nails.

Peanut butter and I'm jelly!

Good for him, although all that money living in a place like that, bad things are coming. What's that saying? Idle hands are the devils play thing?

Anyway, back to my mortgage payments...sigh.

Notch made it. That's cool.

He's going to be sorting his friends from the hangers on. Like duck-face girl.

if he's smart enough to set aside $50 million and generate crappy interest in a CD, he'd still make $500k a year, plenty to live on.

Low estimate for LA County property taxes (1.25%) would be $875,000 a year. People never take that into consideration when they buy houses like this. Add in everything else and you can easily see him going though well over $2,000,000 a year. I do hope he is smart enough to think of the long term. Too many stories of people making ridiculous amounts of money and being absolutely broke within a few years.

Yeah, but with the two billion he's got, that would last him 500 years. :D

I actually love his decor, seems like the ultimate movie geek/nerdish/gun nut setup. If you're going to pay 70 million dollars for a house, might as well make it something you would want to live in.

The average S&P 500 return between 1920 and 2015 adjusted for inflation is 9.40%. If this money is largely invested, he does not need to worry about these levels of expenses.

What's with this?
