Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

I have to say, I wish i voted for the Org forums to be coming next instead of the map page. Would really like to start building the base of the org.

Yeah that is what i voted for, the org forums.

Quote from Ben about the letter from the chairman.

Hey guys! Just wanted to chime in with an it's-almost-there. Chris has a draft now... it'll get comments from some of the leads who are involved and then it'll come over to the web team for formatting... hopefully that means it should be up tonight. (And if for some reason it isn't, we'll be standing by to make it happen on the weekend.) And this is going to be a good one! You'll see why it took a bit longer and how it benefited from working with the team in Manchester when it comes out. :)

I just got a cutlass blue anniversary edition and I was wondering what info I needed to join your guys' crew, or if that was still an open invitation.

Not read the whole thread so apologies if this has been answered:

Why has the $20 pledge level been classed as "out of stock"?

The $20 pledge was numerically limited; a special event for the Anniversary sale. Its content was more or less identical to the $45 pledge, but when they made the Javelin Destroyer w/LTI (ultra, numerically limited capital ship. The largest sold to date, $2500. 4 lots of 50, on Nov 28th.) available, they also wanted to bring something in for the lower end as well. Thus they used the profits from the Javelin, to make 5000 of the discounted pledges available. Needless to say, they sold out swiftly.

Edit: Quote from the Anniversary Sale newspost - "But that’s not all! We’re making the Javelin available for hardcore players who are dedicated to supporting Star Citizen… and we’re using the opportunity to allow new players to join the game as well. We’re using the assortment of Javelin destroyers to subsidize discount packages for new players: 200 Javelins means we can make 5,000 $20 Aurora game packages available for sale at the same time!"

I'm quite happy that they do not really do those stretch goals anymore. They have plenty of work to do and so many features that I have hard time imagining any extra feature.

I completely agree, or it would also be fine if the add features intended to come after the PU is released. Hate to think how much the enhanced modularity is going to add to the work load of the programmers.

Ah right.

I just snagged an AMD Never Settle code from ebay, installing now.

So I recently bought a cheap AMD card for my HTPC. Came with a Bronze Never Settle code. Assumed from all the pictures where it was prominently featured that this would be good for Alien: Isolation. I found out on the last day of the Steam sale that it was not, so I bought Alien: Isolation (which was fortunately a daily deal) and decided to give away a Just Cause 2 steam code to a co-worker instead of redeeming one of the other games for myself or selling it. I redeemed it for Just Cause 2 and the page said my key would eventually appear.

Today (here comes the thread-relevant part) I got a message from AMD saying that the game I selected was no longer offered, and in the e-mail they provided a new code for me to redeem. Much to my surprise, this new code is good for Alien: Isolation and Star Citizen.

Aside from being a bit miffed that I didn't have to shell out for the Alien game, I am now presented with a dilemma. Should I get the Mustang? Currently have a Connie and nothing but a Connie. I've been tempted to buy something like a Tali or a Hornet, but I remind myself I've already sunk a lot into this game and I shouldn't encourage this whole runaway DLC sale thing. So then should I sell the Alien: Isolation code? Sell the SC code? Thoughts?

I would keep the 'stang. At the very least you'll have a 2nd ride for zippin around and possibly a secondary character/npc slot.

Yeah. Mustang codes are down to $20 on reddit so unless you are hard pressed for cash I'd say keep it.

I'm interested in this game, but have stayed away mainly because my rig couldn't handle it until recently.

What is a good entry point for someone who hasn't done anything with this game up to this point?

Get a mustang code for $20 from reddit or ebay and get the $5 arena commander pass so you can at least fly an Aurora until the Mustang is flyable.

OR

Get the Aurora MR + AC pack for $45 which gives you the aurora and arena commander.

The mustang package from the AMD never settle comes with arena commander pass.

I did the AMD Never Settle package, since it was a cheap way into the game with some nice perks, cheaper than probably buying the retail cost of the game after it was released. As much as I read the stuff I could buy, and as much as I want to buy it, I just can't bring myself to dropping that much cash on a game...before the game even exists (not that I would be spending real money for upgrades, regardless).

I'll have to work and earn my nicer ships the hard way...once the game is out :p

The only thing I would consider buying is a ship with LTI...if they once again offered it on a ship that doesn't cost hundreds/thousands of dollars.

You missed out on the Herald than?

I got my Herald and am happy, its my only LTI ship. I have a Mustage, 2 months of insurance, and I have the Aurora LX with 24 months of insurance.

When was the Herald offered/how much was it? This way I can kick myself for missing it.

Work is busy so I can't always follow the latest package offerings :(

mine was purchased November 01, 2014

so little over a month ago and was $85

Well that sucks...I would have done that.

Yeah, for me, I had $100 budgeted, when it was announced for $85, I was stoked. I got mine Nov 1st as well. Infact, after getting it I switched my primary role to Covert Ops

Is the first part of Squadron 42 still supposed to be released in the second half of 2015? I'm reading 10 hours of game play which seems a little light for this many years work.

I have no idea, so this isn't a direct answer to your question. However, for the development time thus far, they've had to get funding, secure the engine, rewrite the parts of the engine that they needed to for this game, design assets, and generally just get the engine functional. I would say that leaves only a small to mid percentage for adding S42 content. So for a "first part" with all of that other development going on, that seems at least in the right ballpark. I imagine that getting the other parts out (however many there may be) would be much quicker since all of the groundwork has been laid.

remember that we're also getting the second installment free, so if it is about the same length then you're actually getting a 20hr game. :) and after that, expansions wont be $60 stand-alone games like they are for CoD, they will probably be more like $20-30 since cloud imperium is not beholden to publishers and stock holders to squeeze every cent out of consumers.

They hardly need to "squeeze", their consumers are happily throwing money at them hand over fist as it is.

Squadron 42 is a 50 hour campaign.

I think something is wrong with this Hornet. Luckily the pilot remains stoic.

Literally nothing left, it was just spinning in space. :D

Such is life in the universe. Get out of here, hunter!

Also, that is one well-endowed spacecraft.

That stick position seems off, ergonomically. I can't imagine it would be comfortable for long periods. Look where real-life fighter jets have their sticks. Weightlessness and all, but I still imagine it would be more comfortable on the joints and natural muscle resting positions, to rest your elbows on your thighs.

Yeah it is oddly placed. The 300i has a yoke and the Aurora has double sticks at normal angles.

Even though the Hornet is better on paper, I seem to fly better and have a better time in the 300 series. The Omni lasers still have convergence issues but I like their feel better than the more spammy guns.

I actually almost think that view is a bit sexual. Perhaps it is not the spacecraft that is well-endowed but the pilot! Topped off with the characteristic British stoicism, stiff upper lip and all that, chap.

I still need to try out the AC module to test out my TM:Warthog HOTAS now.

Tell me again, how is this game not pay to win? All I see for pages is people discussing what sweet deals they got on this and that ship.

Just because you can buy a ship doesn't make this game pay 2 win.

You can find ANY ship thats in the game somewhere and steal it or buy it or earn it yourself. Just some of us took the easy route and went ahead and got it early is all.

P2W to me is when you can buy something that NO ONE else can get unless they pay money. These ships u can get throughout the game, so its not P2W.

He knows that already, remember don't feed the trolls.

Having a ship early in the game that others have to grind for for weeks still sounds pay to win to me.

Pay to win is where people can take shortcuts for money. Just because you can get the same content without paying doesn't make the game any less P2W. It's literally in the name "you win by paying, instead of playing"
