Even though I have two Rokus and a Chromecast, getting this for $19 is too cheap to pass up. At worst, I have a Christmas gift for someone. :D

Fire Stick sounds like something you catch on Spring Break in college.

Yeah. I am thinking I spend more on much less useful things all the time. I might as well just order it and decide if I like it to save anybody else the trouble. That is me telling my wife why I bought it. :D

For $20 dollars, I went ahead and took a chance. Mostly for the hacking possibilities.

Soooo other than some buggy screen sharing, what does the chromecast have on this?

I actually dated a Korean girl for a couple of years and all we did was .......... blankity blank blank .... Yes, I know what Fire Stick is ... she was clean but had a diet high in Korean food that made that thang diabolical if used too much and since she was Korean and very cute, it most def got the hell used out of it.
... yeah, gold ol' Fire Stick. .... I miss you

I run a Plex server on my home PC, then stream that to a tablet, which Casts that to my non-smart TV. I've had no issues with that setup. Other than streaming Plex, I don't use my Chromecast for much else.

So basically a Android mini-pc dongle, with the Fire TV OS on it.. about half as powerful as the Fire TV (stb) and works independently of needing a tablet or smartphone (Chromecast)..

Looks to be priced great for the capabilities.

I refuse to allow WiFi in my house. No cable ethernet option, no buy.

Doesn't make sense but ok. The entire idea behind this device is a quick and easy streamer to hook up directly to your TV/receiver. Most people don't want to run an ethernet cable to their TV nor would they pay the extra money required for a NIC port (and extra thickness in the device could cause issues as well).

I bought one. I plan on using it for exactly what it's designed to do, stream from amazon prime. I'm hoping I'll finally be able to get 5.1 surround sound out of some of amazon's stuff. My HTPC can handle everything else.

Anyone know if FireTV works has a Plex app?
At this price point, I'm going to go ahead and pull the trigger. I have a Roku3 (love it) and a ChromeCast (love this device as well - works great).

In for two. At $20 per pop, maybe this will convince my mom to give up DirecTV.

I think there are work arounds to get Plex App working on the regular FireTV. At least people on the Plex forums have gotten it to work. I'm not so sure about this FireStick though.

Other than plex, is there a way to stream local content through the fire hd/stick?

I can understand that, but is there a free way to get DLNA streaming on the fire tv?

Have a Roku 2 XD; can be buggy at times, and allowing screen mirroring from my Galaxy is a nice little perk for $20. Grabbed one, see if it replaces the Roku. Dolby certified sounds nice at least, see if I can tell any kind of difference streaming to my new sound bar.

It is not a workaround to get plex ...it is a supported paid for app on the Fire Tv

Ahhh, apparently you are right. When I was looking at the FireTV a few months ago it wasn't available or even talked about. People were about get it working via DLNA though.

Wonder if the stick will have enough horsepower to run XBMC.
The Fire TV (stb) is a great solution to sideload XBMC to...then sideload Stickmount...and you have local storage in addition to streaming capabilities.

Eh if it doesnt do DD and DTS, who cares...

Me. I care. And my parents depending on how it does in testing it at my house. And probably people who don't even know what those acronyms mean because they don't have anything that can do anything about them and just want a simple wireless solution for streaming content. Probably those people too.

I don't have an HDMI port... is there a coax version?

Does this thing work just as well if it is plugged into your receiver instead of the TV?

In for one. Not sure what I'm going to use it for, but for the price I'll figure it out. Probably a gift for someone.

i don't see why it wouldn't.... i would love this...

i'm glad i got one too.... xbmc on this thing, w/ the remote.... can't beat that for $19

While I'll allow wireless in my house, will this thing allow me to stream movies from *MY* PC to my TV wirelessly? No? It only works through those services? I'll pass then.

with plex yes, but i'm kinda in the same boat, i hate plex.... and i do already use wired network to stream my media...

i'll get it just for the current price in HOPES that it can be hacked to run XBMC

Prime member, not working for me at all. Was hoping the price would change at checkout, told me 2 was too many.

Ok, not two per customer. one per customer, and discount does apply at checkout.

I wouldn't use one of these even if I got it for free. Great deal if you need one though.

Yeah, now I simply have a laptop (win8 boots really quickly) wireless FTP from one computer to another, and then plug HDMI cable into the laptop. Easy enough sure, but it'd be nicer if it was a simpler process but it is what it is.

I'll have to look into this plex dohickey, never heard of it, but I only briefly looked at the Chrome version of this.
