Nexus 6 speculation

Now, I have never had an AMOLED screen, so might have to warm up to it, but after my initial disgust with a 6" screen, I am thinking its maybe better positioned than previously thought.

I dont know why the subsidized price would be more than 200. An iPhone 6 is $650 and is $200 on contract, which makes this the N6 a good bargain against the other phablet phones, LGG3 and Note4.

Pretty sure you'll warm up to AMOLED immediately since any newer version is significantly better than any LCD in almost every aspect (contrast, viewing angles, accuracy, and brightness is on par with most new LCD phones). The AMOLED panel on my previous Note 2 certainly wasn't anywhere near as good as the newer ones, but I still miss it a lot over my current One M8's display. After seeing the GS5 and Note 4 in person, it blows my M8's away.

Agreed about the pricing too. I think what people are getting hung up on is that since it's an oversized phablet phone, it will be priced in line with the Note 4 and iPhone 6+ (which are both $300+ on contract). But it shouldn't work like that.

Everything I've read/seen about this N6 makes me want to ditch my iPhone for it... except the size. The N6 looks like one big ass, mutha fucka phone. I'm still going to give it a try, though.

...the iPhone 6 Plus's screen is 5.5" and is nearly as big as the Nexus 6. SMH...

Mind you, the iPhone is about a third thinner and has a built-in fingerprint reader. It's a give-and-take.

The iPhone also suffers a durability problem stemming from being too thing...and well...the fingerprint scanner thing was compromised a year ago.

Please don't trot out the fingerprint bit again. Besides the bend-over-backwards nature of the "compromise" (if someone has the time and resources to create a fake finger, you have much bigger problems), it's still more secure than using just a PIN code or face unlock. And durability... well, it's hard to know if it's a problem that exists beyond a handful of photos and videos.

At any rate, aren't we supposed to be talking about the Nexus 6? My only point was that the relative size differences have an explanation.

Good god, that N6 is huge. Looks like it could eat a Note 4... maybe even the 6+.

Time to reconsider the 2014 Moto X.

Meh. N6 is only a single centimeter taller than my old Note 2. When N6 comes out, I'm thinking I'm going to hop on it...only question is whether to save up and outright buy it or go through my carrier in the hopes of a better deal (3 year old Note 2 hopefully would have some trade in value).

Old L900 is getting glitchy slowly but surely.

^If you want to get a feel for the size (+- a few mm), lay three bank cands above one another - It's pretty big.

Here's a link to it in Google play store, they kept the price. Guess this really is Android Silver.

The credit card comparison is spot on, thanks. I think the comparison that may have just burst my bubble though is my co-worker with a Lumina 1520. I have always thought it was beyond huge and after having compared stats, it is almost exactly the same size. Sigh. At least it is lighter by 25g. That Lumina, is one solid chunk of big.

I do think the price is reasonable. It undercuts the Samsung Note series and Iphone+ in cost by a significant amount. Maybe not a super bargain, but i think it offers quite a bit for what it is.The lower price phones/hardware will be picked up by those seeking market share (Oneplus1) and Google can get out of the business of subsidizing hardware. Its a good move on their part and if they provide good hardware with good specs, cant fault them for it.

That was actually a pretty good video; it showed how smooth Android L is on the Nexus 6 and the unique camera flash.

The note 4 screen looks a bit more vibrant but it's hard to tell if its the color profile in the settings or the ui features (background and settings ui changes) of touchwiz that makes it that way. What is the difference between an AMOLED and SuperAmoLED is it the RGB config? Either way samsung probably makes both panels.

AMOLED and SAMOLED is basically the same screen. The only difference is that the digitizer is built into the SAMOLED and not put on top of the screen in AMOLED.

This is when you’ll finally be able to preorder Google’s amazing new Nexus 6
http://bgr.com/2014/10/21/google-nexus-6-preorder/

The phone will be available in two storage versions, including 32GB ($649) and 64GB ($699), with buyers being able to order one directly from Google starting with October 29th, the same date Google mentioned when announcing the phone last week. The company has not yet revealed when the handset will be shipped, although more details on the matter should be announced once preorders start.

Android 5.0 will bring one of the new Moto X’s coolest features to all Android phones

5 more days till the presale. I'm in for two. Anyone else getting one?

I'm in for two. My wife has wanted a phablet for a while, and I'm still unsure; I figure I can always return mine if the size is too much.

2 for me also. But I will probably not preorder bc I'm not sure there will be a good case to put it in at launch.

It is already a huge phone so I can't imagine using a case of it.

I used Spigen Ultra Fit cases on my smaller phones but went naked on my Note 3 and OnePlus One as they are big enough already.

I love the Nexus 6 but it's just too big for me. It's not the height but the width. It's wider than the Note 3/4 and 6 Plus and they are the limit for me to hold in one hand.

I insist on keeping my phones in great shape so a case is mandatory.

I just use a skin from icarbons or dbrand for phablet as they protect from scratches but don't add any extra bulk.

Keeps the surface looking like new and goes on and comes off easily with a hair dryer.

I wonder how the N6's 13 MP shooter with optical image stabilization compares in quality with the likes of the Note 4/G3/6 Plus?

Its using the same sensor in the 1+1 or the Z1/Z2 so it should be comparable.

Those pictures are uninspiring. Hope to see better samples as I'm leaning towards the Nexus 6 over the Note 4.

Saw a N6 in person and I would buy the Note 4 instead. The screen looks dated next to the Note 4.
It has a pretty cool Panoramic Camera feature. Not that big in hand, smaller than my iPhone 6+.

Some of the indoor shot's look pretty poor. I hope it's just dodgy image compression, not the camera.

Edit: Speaking of poor, if any of you ballers would like to donate a spare N6. Then I wouldn't say no. ;)

Can you be more specific?

I'm wondering too. Sammy screens are known for their over-saturation of color. I'm wondering if that is what he's talking about.

Could be a repeat of the X 2014 vs GS5 screens with the X having a previous gen panel that was more similar to the GS4.
