I ran 3Dmark 2013 and score 9,768 stock on Firestrike. Easily the best looking graphics card I've ever seen. Runs completely silent. First run on 3Dmark 2011 was 13,744. I'm pretty happy with it so far. I used to have EVGA GTX 760 sli and scored 10,044 on 3dmark 2013 & 15,000 on 3dmark 2011 so this thing is definitely really fast for the amount of wattage it uses & the price of $368.50 with tax.

I ran firestrike on my gtx 980 g1 gaming gigabyte got 13150 . Boost was at 1534 , mem close to 8000. Running 4790k at 4.7,

Silent here too.

I'm running the same card in sli and if I run just 1 card on my 2600k@4800mhz over clock on card at 1540/8000 I got 13185 hehe.

Those 980's really hustle, wow. I'm just so happy that I got a 970 I thought they were all gone but well ancient chinese secret LOL

I might return my G1 gaming to get the asus stix 980. I like the fact your card goes to 0db at idle. Very interesting

Everywhere is out of stock though

Do you mind checking if there is a tamper dot sticker over one of the heatsink screws on the back of the card? Should be easily visible even with the backplate on (as it doesn't cover it).

no stickers on screws...

so my idle is 37c , fan speed 25% at 1015rpm

I am curious if i should just apply some geil thermal paste and purchase another 980 g1.

I just like the fact the asus strix has a 0db idle but from what i hear even at idle with no fans running it gets 40c
Running sli at idle seems to be a better route to go with the asus or msi 980.

my gpu clock is 1383, boost 1484 but gets to 1534 at full load in gpu z.

I am wondering what the Asus Strix 980 gets at idle with no fans running and at full load

Just to clarify you have a Gigabyte and not an Asus?

I am absolutely loving my Asus STRIX GTX 970 as well....

My Firestrike score was something like 10270 using the system in my sig.... this old 2500K just keeps chugging along!

Yes, the 0db fan thing really IS true. At idle when in desktop use (and sometimes on less demanding games) the fans spin down completely - 0rpm. Pretty nice indeed... and yet they're still capable of some impressive airflow. Manually jack those babies up to 100% and it sounds like a jet engine.... but thankfully you would never see that in normal operation.

One of the funny things I noticed is that PhysX performance seems to be WAY up compared to my previous GTX 770. You could actually tell the difference just watching the Physics portion of the Firestrike test on both cards back to back.

Another happy 970 STRIX owner... no coil whine and while mine won't OC as much as the Asus or Gigabyte cards it's totally fine with me.. it's does well enough and it's damn silent while doing it. I am at +157 +300 and my cores have more in them.. just been playing with my CPU overclock now and gaming a lot.. I have only moved the "power limit" slider to 120 and but not touched the voltage slider.

someone reposted my pic post, but here's a close-up:

STRIX-tamper-sticker_zps727d80a8.png

definitely a do not tamper sticker on the one screw there.

PS: my firestrike score with cpu @ 4.5.. it's at 4.625 now but I haven't retested. http://www.3dmark.com/fs/2922884

You probably ought to peel that plastic film off so the backside of the card can breathe.... There is even be a little sticker on it that warns you to remove it before installing the card, you can see it in your picture....

Yep idles at 33c here for me 0db no fan movement. I ran Furmark 15 min and it never went over 67 for the entire run & fan speed never went over 40%. I pushed it to 120% and reran Furmark for 15 min & 70c with 44% fan is the highest I saw them.

I was just curious does your Strix during a reboot go to 100 percent max fan speed? My gigabyte 980 does this every time and it is annoying. I might go 2x 970s for 660.00 asus strix. seems to be the best route for performance per dollar vs 980. Easier to resell too and upgrade if 6-8 gb cards released soon probably some time after new years.

yeah I took the film off. all of the logo films also..

Nice score for SLI. The only thing i would question is your idle at i believe you said 33c. When in fact in the reviews 0db idles around 49c? Maybe with no air cooling or case cooling. It looks like you have a big fan actively cooling your sli setup.

If you look at guru3d review above the 970s in sli is not listed WTF. If you look at the 980sli score it is only about 700 marks faster than your score which i am assuming yours is overclocked. But still for the price 970 sli is the way to go. It would seem they intentionally removed the 970 sli score from the benchmark or the manufactures i.e. asus , gigabyte intentionally sent out 980 cards first to reviewers to fool consumers.

They did GTX 970 SLI review first actually, you can compare the results here -

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/geforce_gtx_980_sli_review,21.html

The other interesting thing is they apparently received "reference" GTX 970s. So you can get an idea of how the 970 would behave with the 980s cooler.

Here is 980 sli overclocked firestrike score
not bad but is it really worth the extra 560.00 to get a extra gigabyte g1 gaming "retail 629.00 and not dropping anytime soon" to go SLI over the stix 970 at $349 ea? I think i am definitely going to go 970 sli vs a single or 2x 980 gpu setup upgrade path. In the long run i just do not see it worth my wild if i am at 2560x1440p 60hz for the next 12-15 months. Obviously the next big jump will be a 980ti but by the time that happens a few months later i am sure new manufacturing process will be released at the 970 price point which will outperform the 980ti. I am just throwing out possibilities as I really do not know the future but if you look at what happened with this release and the 780ti you will understand what i am talking about. I feel bad having to return the 980 it back to amazon .

I just do not see any game really needing a single or dual 980 setup unless you are running 4k res with triple monitor setup. I should be able to get 2x 970s strix on amazon for 663.00 "discover 5% cash back this quarter heehhe. can not believe i spent 629 for a 980 gigabyte . Great card but i think it is way overpriced now that i have researched the 970 strix. 0db technology only makes sense too when you have adequate case cooling, in my case corsair 760t with h110 setup with all 120mm cougar fans when going sli. Who really needs 6 fans at idle with 2x 980 g1 windforce going at 1k rpm. Just thought i would give my thoughts being a gigabyte g1 980 owner for about a week now after reading the 970 stix owners comments/experiences.

Glad i chimed in i just placed my order for 2x 970s strix, gtx 980 going back

for the money and performance it is the way to go the next 12 months.

I'm at 31 c idle right now it could be due to the fact here in Ohio it's 38 f outside and heater is not turned on in house. It's 66 f in my living room where my PC sits. The Coolermaster 912 has front & top 200mm fans and 120mm on side blowing directly on the 970.

I got a little bold this morning bumped up the core +200 & memory +300 with the 120%. Ran passmark my stock score was 8987 just got a 9847 which is almost even with 980 stock. I can't really put into words what a great birthday present this was. I love it !! Almost kinda feel bad for AMD I don't see how they can get back in this game. Wow !!

Unigine Valley didn't like +200 & +300 it hard locked like 20 seconds in. Backed them off 175 core 275 mem see how that works out. Looks like 150 core & 250 mem with 120% is a nice spot for this card going to leave it there.

what version did you run, 1.10?

you could try adding a little v-gpu to stablize +200 +300 ? maybe.. I haven't tried adding any myself.. I think it might hit the TDP wall more quickly with too much..

SLI STRIX 970s here. Top card idles around 39-42C, bottom around 36-38C. Fans do not ramp up to 100% before Windows starts for me. I'm waiting to see if there will be a driver fix from NVIDIA for the voltage problem in SLI before overclocking.

Don't care too much for 3DMark scores, but minimum framerates on my system have more than doubled on average from my SLI 780s, so I'm extremely happy. These will serve me well until Skylake and Pascal come out.

exactly what i was thinking..
If you look at benchmarks even gaming at 2560x1440 p is more than enough to suit me for the next year. Unless you are at 4k or you like getting 120hz in every game then get the 980s

I am more of a quiet case and 60hz at 1440p with perfect color clarity kind of person. I could care less about 120hz until they can make gsync cheap or make a good ips panel that has a low ms and high refresh rates that is under 350.00 for 27"

I went with 2x Msi due to the 8 pin connector supposedly slightly better overclocks vs the strix . Hopefully i do not get a coil whine or stuck fans.
will be returning my g1 gaming i paid 629.00 for . For 80 bucks more going 970 sli is the way to go as mentioned by many top reviewers. i get about 13200 in firestrike with one card with my GTX980 another 629.00 will get me to possibly 16-17k . For 80 bucks more i can 15300 or more depending on my OC with SLI 970s

That's a nice rig dude. Congrats. Just got a 770 for cheap. Will hopefully upgrade when Nvidia releases a new line of gpus.

Same here. Loving the 970 Strix in SLI. This is my first ever SLI setup and I've been building my own systems for 20 years. Needless to say I'm excited. :D I upgraded from a single 780 Ti. I did run 3D Mark but I will have to look up the results later and post them. Very impressed by the idle temps especially with the fans not spinning. ASUS really nailed it this time.

I used MSI afterburner to set the custom fan profile of 0-100 which I have done with quite a few of my previous cards. It runs the fans at same % as the temperature. Right now it's 32% fan @ 32c. It's a nice feature to have 0db and the fans not running but I'm really happy with this setup. I ran 15 min of Furmark and the results were 74 fps 66c max temperature @ 66 % fan speed. Overall score was 6,704. At 66 % I still couldn't hear the fans.

I have a 780 HOF with a full water block and you guys posting in here are starting to get me interested in SLI 970's. I've never built a SLI system, either

I had SLI GTX 760 2 gig versions back in early spring and they were very fast in benchmarks. I had zero problems with SLI which I was expecting to have issues. Now that I have GTX 970 I will definitely SLI and get another one around February. It has exceeded any expectations I had for it. Furmark maxed out only draws 305 watts total system power. SLI 760's drew right around 700 if I recall. Truly an amazing piece of technology I'm really happy.

I'm torn between the Asus and the EVGA... the Asus looks so awesome but I've heard nothing but bad things about their support where I've personally dealt with EVGA and it was great.

Next build is getting 970 SLI without a doubt, hopefully they can fix the scaling issues then I'd be able to go 3 way... mmm.

I've only had this ASUS since Sat afternoon, it's fabulous. It's my first ASUS anything coming EVGA for the past 3 or 4 generations of GPU. The look, the temperatures & the performance are just great. I couldn't be happier.

I think you meant to say you couldn't care less...

Low response time and IPS... now there's an oxymoron. It's physically impossible to have both.

Gsync in. A ips monitor under 350.00
Or 4 k under 400.00
It will come eventually
