Assassin's Creed: Parity, Ubisoft gimps PS4 version to match XBone

Console gamers now have an opportunity at exercising empathy for PC gamers who have been experiencing this bullshit for a long time.

Where is the evidence of that? You can hardly base a controversy around a supposition.

Why do you need evidence around here anymore. It is just another excuse for the neck beards to hate on Microsoft, never mind that the CPU in the X1 is faster than the PS4 CPU which means in this case it is the X1 being held back.

Just picked up Brotherhood Ass Creed first game I ever played of the series only was 5.00 on steam.

Brotherhood is probably my favorite of the series. I think you should get 2 and start there. Brotherhood starts off at the end of 2. I would also consider revelations as well.

They did not lower the specs, they just didn't bother trying to get it better over one or the other.

1.6ghz vs 1.75ghz is not enough of a bump to justify this. The PS4 has the better GPU so its still the X1 holding back

This isn't a graphics issue they said its the massive amount of npcs both systems are limited in that aspect vs any PC CPU. So they are locking in the game on both so that no compromise in the games world interaction and stays the same. How god damn hard is this to understand. Its about resources.

Obviously PC will be the prettiest they simply want no actual game play compromise what good would 1080p be on ps4 if they had to lower the in world interaction just for your precious P's.

Want 1080p or better with 60fps or higher play PC neither console is capable with the world size and amount of npcs they've been showing its way more than any of their other games even watchdogs.

Which is why this game is current gen and PC only.

I still don't believe Ubisoft on this issue. I highly doubt that is the true reasoning. IMO.

Ubisoft must have added some very complex A.I. then....im doubting that

All this proves is a MAJOR bias by select members on this board who have made this entire sub turn into a joke ala gaff, in fact i would be the majority of those posters are vocal/active on gaf.

The thing is, yes the PS4 GPU is better, but guess what, even the GPU capabilities may not be the limiting factor. The unifieid memory can very easially mean they took memory away from Graphics related tasks and gave it to AI processing and other internal calculations that are more efficient in the CPU. If thats the case, the the faster ESRam that the Xone CPU has access too is in fact an advantage in addition to its slightly higher clock. Overall CPU performance on the One may very well be a fair amount higher than the PS4 not because of the clock but because of the memory architecture as well.

They also mentioned world size and NPC amounts. Decisions are made in current games around those already. Diablo 3 has significantly lower mob populations on the console versions due to this decision, ubisoft went the opposite and decided to keep the world size/npc amount and sacrifice in the resolution. I am sick of this shit on this board.

hey have said the mob is very interactive in unity. Haven't you guys watched any videos on the game or are we just 900p raging?

They've shown random in mobs interacting during fights and the amount of npcs is massive compared to previous games.

there have been tons of NPC's in all previous AC games (the last few in particular) so I don't know how much bigger they can make it...

people said that about dead rising yet the mob density in DR3 was immensly higher than any previous game

"A game’s final resolution isn’t set until late in the development cycle"

is that true for most games?
For this gen it seems to be very true. Post release even for a few games, which is absurd really.

"A game’s final resolution isn’t set until late in the development cycle"

Well their not the first to say that and since many game get resolution bumps at the end or patches it seems that many time its a near final hours thing.

I think this quote from that link speak more to why they are doing certain things

"Keep in mind that previous Assassin’s Creed games could support around 100 to 150 NPCs; Assassin’s Creed Unity has crowds of thousands of NPCs on screen, and you can interact with each and every one them."

You're not arguing with me take that up with Unison who gave the reason.

If it was just a clock speed difference, I'd agree with you. But it isn't just a clock speed difference.

Its a clear parity enforcement thing. Ubisoft doesn't want show favor towards either console so it announces this nonsense and ends up looking even worse.

The Xbox One is a great system but its underpowered. The PS4 is a great system and can do 1080p most of the time but it is also underpowered.

Gamers got the short end of the stick this generation with companies more concerned about immediate profit relief than consoles with actual muscle.

I think you can blame Ubisoft , Microsoft and Sony equally for this clusterfuck. This type of behavior is driving people by the bus load to PCs where this parity nonsense is nonexistent.

Bought Alien : Isolation for the PS4 expecting 1080p 60 , instead I get 1080p 30 and choppy cut scenes. Go over my friends house and see him playing at 4k at 30 with no choppy cut scenes. Its clear what the winner is this generation and it isn't us gamers.

Very true, all of which you speak.
When they start gimping PC games to enforce parity then gamers are indeed dead.

Once again, this console generation has disappointed me more than any other.

is there really any noticeable difference in image quality between 900p and 1080p?...I understand where Ubisoft is coming from...PS4 shouldn't have been gimped but overall I don't think anyone on consoles will notice...

Where does it end, though? PC's are starting to get the shaft so that gamers don't see a lot of difference between PC and consoles.

Neither should be gimped. Give the best performance on every platform. If it's 1080P, that's it. If it's 900p (or 720p), then that's it. Let the consumer buy the better version. It's always been like that. SNES and Genesis had similar issues with games. One looked better than the other. No one cried about it. That's just the way it was. Same with today's consoles. There is no reason to buy one over the other if this is the way it's going to be. They are developing for the low powered one, so there is no reason to buy the higher powered one.

If Microsoft is paying for this to happen, it needs to be exposed and Microsoft will get the shaft from many gamers.

except the fact that its not Microsoft. People always look to blame Microsoft for all kinds of shit that isnt their doing. If that was the case you would see it on more games than it happens. Lazy devs are lazy devs

I have a feeling its behind the door dealings. Developers didnt seem to have a problem with not gimping the 360's version compared to ps3 last gen for any multiplat. Why now? I smell something fishy.

Either behind the door dealings or just very lazy and trying to cheat costs.

Sounds about right to me. Where was MS with their parity when 360 games looked better on that system compared to PS3? They loved that.
Now that xbone is slagging way behind MS is making parity deals. They can't get this generation right with their console so they throw money around. Not cool.

Someone mentioned it. I said IF it was them. With the console stuff, it wouldn't be a first, nor would it be surprising (from any company).

My Xbox One has given my nothing but great times. But, regardless of who is gimping the games, it affects everyone. Gamers, developers, console makers. You make the best damn product you can. Right now, it comes down to Ubisoft being the bad guy, regardless of if/who paid them to do it.

It's not ONLY Microsoft, but lately it's *mostly* Microsoft because theyre so behind in the console race. Incredibly naive if you think its "lazy devs" rather than the publisher getting pressured and/or moneyhatted to maintain closer platform parity, since the Xbone cant compete on specs or performance and every review on a new gen multiplat game mentions the performance and resolution disparity.

Just ask yourself who has the most to gain by publishers artificially limiting perfomance to the lowest common denominator. This isnt rocket science. MS is stuck and cant compete on hardware so now theyre trying to change the conversation in an attempt to compete on perception.

Why is it not occuring with other games? Why is it games like the first assassins creed came with a Day 1 patch to increase res on PS4 to 1080P coming FROM THE SAME PUBLISHER. This is not a Microsoft money hat, plain and simple. If you want to blame them you can blame them, just know that its utter BS

A lot can change in a year.

Not even GAF is blaming microsoft on this one lol. Its idiotic to blame a console maker for a devs decision. This happens to PC ports all the fucking time but you dont see people blaming the PS4 and Sony for that one do you? The blame lands on the publisher and the dev, they made the decision

Considering that MS has an Assassin Creed Unity xbone bundle deal I don't think that's very far fetched.. So, yes, in this situation I blame MS for making this happen and equally I blame Ubi for agreeing to this. Also, with MS having a parity business model for indie developers I see how that idea could stretch over to 3rd party deals with big publishers.

The parity has NOTHING TO DO WITH TECHNICAL SPECS. It has to do with release date, and content. Your reaching.

Every single person just wants to find whatever reason they can to bash microsoft. Nevermind the fact that Sony is a failing company for a reason, Sony is not the godsend that everyone is trying to make them out to be. Its getting out of hand and makes every single board the exact same thing. Seriously, this is 100% on the dev. If it was microsoft it would be happening more often, but it isnt.

I don't remember Ubisoft gimping the PS3 version to match 360.

Apparently Ubisoft's loyalties are now seen.

I find it funny that someone with several degrees always uses the wrong version of your/you're...

I agree with you that in this case it is an exclusivity window. Both MS and Sony have done this for years, most recently with the Destiny PS4 bundle. Sony was able to control the marketing narrative so much that I have heard from several people online and in real life who did not believe Destiny was also available on the Xbox ONE. Since consoles more often than not can't grab the exclusive title to move hardware, they have to resort to securing exclusivity on content and bundles. I'm sure there are plenty of people like myself who have the want and means to buy every console available, but the majority of gamers can only afford to choose one, and this is a way to entice consumers to your side.

Video gaming is now an 80+ billion dollar a year business. With it branching out to a broader audience it is going to make even more money in the future. It would not surprise me in the least of the company that has a stranglehold on the operating system market in both enterprise and consumer spaces wants to extend that reach into another market that is becoming just as ubiquitous. Control the market, control the money, control the narrative.

That being said... in this case, it's just Ubisoft being Ubisoft. My opinion on this particular matter is they think they can get away with developing one version of the game without cross-platform optimization because of each current platform sharing the same instruction set. By setting the narrative to "current consoles are on par with PC" they can pinch pennies and increase profit margins by banking on an idea that most gamers are not smart enough to question their statements. People and companies with money want nothing more than to make more money.

The last console generation didn't have as many hardware similarities between them as the current one. To get the game running on both a PS3 and 360 it had to be developed and optimized separately. Now that the architecture is nearly the same between PS4 and XB1 it is not necessary to develop an entirely different version. They can save money by developing for the lowest common denominator and then you ensure it can run on every other platform.

Work filters block the site which means every reply i type is done on a phone, and my dictionary automatically replaces youre with your due to the lack of an apostrophe. Suppose i could just turn off auto correct but that introduces even bigger problems :p

I can respect that ;). Can't always go against the will of our robotic overlords.

Exactly. It's all about who can throw enough money to make the parity happen. ;) Which is MS in this situation. :D

As for the rest of your post, MS dug this whole they're in themselves. Yes, I do like to throw a jab here and there in their general direction, I'm not denying it. But I will also be the first one to congratulate them if they do something right. I'm not loyal to brands, I just call things like I see them.
