Shadows of Mordor

For the zone, I think. In TB's video it showed he had 16/20 main missions completed in the first zone. I hardly think that there would be only 4 in the whole rest of the game. It was funny though that TB thought that the first zone was the entire game, proclaiming that the whole game could be completed in around 8 hours :D.

There's not much at all after you get to the second area, it's 20 total (with 7 in the second area). He's right, if you rushed through it you could probably complete it in under 8 hours easily, but you'd be missing the point.

The story missions are SUPER short and the story really lacks a bit in terms of depth and development. It honestly feels like the story was rushed and left a little unfinished. There's more slave rescue quests than main mission quests. Note that I don't have any DLC (I didn't buy the season pass)

Using a 7970 at the moment but here are my results at maxed settings (high textures) @ 2880x1620:

Game runs great as long as you use high textures and borderless windowed.

Ok so, first problem I've encountered: I keep doing the quest "The Messenger" to go over to the new zone, but despite showing the little save hammer in the lower left corner, the game is not saving my progress as I quest over there, and any time I have to restart, it sends me back to pre-quest status and I have to redo it.

Anyone seen that problem?

Nevermind, there's more to the quest than just arriving in the new zone. I just had to finish it out, otherwise it wasn't completing the quest, making me restart.

This is the 2014 version of Tomb Raider for me. By that I mean the game kind of came out of nowhere for a lot of people and blew them away. I haven't put the game down since I bought it a few days ago. You would think killing captains over and over would get old, but somehow they managed to keep it fun through the combat system and the random attributes the captains get.

I've been recommending the game to everyone that will listen.

I have a question about something. So I just bought the game, I'm wondering if people are finding it easy to play with keyboard and mouse? A friend of mine told me that he couldn't do it, he had to use a controller. I generally hate using controllers on any PC games. The only game I had to use a controller for was Dark Souls. I'm wondering if I should just get a wired 360 controller or something.. I'd rather use my PS3 controllers, but I hate dealing with the damn motionjoy crap.

And I guess I'll add my bench too:
Average: 84.22
Max: 298.93
Min: 46.82

This is with everything as high as it can go, I play at 1080p, with a +190/+475 OC on my MSI 970 Gaming. Looks awesome.

For me, I found it 10x easier with an Xbox controller. Even aiming the bow I've gotten pretty good at thanks to the "bullet time" ability.

Could pick a used one up cheap at a Gamestop or something maybe to try it with?

So do I. But this game and Dark Souls are exceptions to KB/M master race. There are games that are simply more fun with a controller, and this is one of them. Directional rolling for example is simply better with an analog stick.

Damn... I thought so. I might just grab one with Amazon Prime. I give up with Motion Joy, it's just so horrible. I just feel so awkward with an xbox controller, I've never had any xbox console, just PSX/PS2/PS3. I doubt my PS2 controller would work with my USB adapter.. hmm.. I didn't try it, though. It works for a lot of games, but when I tried it with Dark Souls, it wouldn't. Might as well give it a shot.

Edit: Aw man, yeah.. PS2 one doesn't work of course. Damn.. gonna just grab a wired 360 controller. I'm sad to see they don't have any pink wired ones, just a pink wireless :'(

Same here for me all the way.

It's more expensive and requires a program like MotionJoy (only not as shit) but if you want to stick to Sony controllers you could look into the Dualshock 4. As someone that hasn't liked any Sony controller since the original, non-analog stick PS1 controller, I think the DS4 is great.

I'd go wireless personally. The wireless xbox adapter is only $9 or $10 on Amazon.

so what's the verdict on this game (not just the graphics but overall gameplay)?

It's fun. If you like the Arkham combat, and I actually don't, you'd like the game.

I do like the game though... for some reason I don't like Arkham games but I like Sleeping Dogs and this game's version of it.

So my current target is a caragor tamer. He weakness is the he's afraid of caragors. That sucks for him.

Some of the fights are plain hard after you unlock the ability to issue Death Threats. Death threats add a large group of boyguards to a Captain. Also, all of the Captains in the game have random traits that make them immune to certain attacks, and some like to ambush. I've been in fights so huge that it makes a 5 star GTA chase seem like peanuts. Start off fighting one Captain. 2 more join in that were in the village. Incoming 3 more Captains that wanted to ambush you.

So now you have at least 6 different types of regular npc fighting styles attacking you, 5 unique Captains (bosses), and their special troops. Some regular trooper sets off an alarm causing literally hundreds more NPC attack you. You look at the odds and run away. Right as you think you've made it. When you know you've made it. Some scrawny level 1 poison spear chucking bastard takes you out with a spear to the back, because you were giggling too hard to keep dodging.

Now the newly appointed spear chucking Captain trolls you every time that he sees you as you just made him a champion amongst the Orcs. It's completely your fauilt. You just gave him power over his fellow Orcs. How do you feel? Do you feel lucky punk? Risk sending him a Death Threat too? Your next fight may consist of 6 Captains if you do. 6 Captains that have a greater chance to drop epic runes if you can survive the onslaught!

Risk / reward. I like gambling. How's about you?

sounds awesome :D

will my GTX 580 be able to handle High textures?

The game's definitely been hard for me, but I guess that's what happens (to me) when I don't play games (or the Arkham series type games) for a few months.

Overall, the game runs really well on my rig in sig. I'll do a benchmark post later this week, but I'm running a mixture of Very High and Ultra and it runs smooth on 1080P and 1440P. Nothing to complain about here.

It's pretty ridiculously easy once you brand a warchief though. Brand 2 bodyguards then attack the warchief, brand him. Now when you summon him you can start a riot vs. any captain or warchief, then use the first bodyguard to issue the death thread and the second to find his weaknesses/strengths. Then it's just a fight between them and you can pick off pretty much all the non-captain orcs in a single arrow volley and brand the ones you don't. Boom, it's now a warchief and his 2 captain bodyguards with entourage vs. a chief and maybe 2 bodyguards.

Besides doing the strategy above, how do you fight the guys that are immune to everything but Last Stand, and have Combat Mastery? In my game I always end up with 2 or 3 of them attacking me at once. Of course I issued a Death Threat to every Captain in my game so you get the picture... :)

SoM goes mainstream? :)

I saw a commercial on network TV last night during prime time for SoM.

I liked it before it way popular...

At 1080p, not without some occasional hitching while it swaps textures. Need ~2.5GB+ for that.

SoR?

Assuming you're talking about Shadows of moRdor?

They've been showing commercials for it for a good two weeks now.

That's clever as hell...I can't wait until I can brand.

I didn't think about a DS4... But ugh, I don't want to go through that crap with the programs and driver things again :( At least they're not as bad as MotionJoy.. that shady ass piece of software.. I ended up just grabbing one of the 360 controllers off Amazon, should be here tomorrow. Too bad Sony didn't deliver on having their PS4 controllers work out of the box with Windows, like they had said originally :(

Can't go wrong with the wired 360 controller. Plug it in, start playing.

Is he immune to beasts? If he hasn't got "beast slayer", mount the caraghor, ride in and let your beast eat him :) And if not caraghor, then get a graug :)

I go to my favorite warchief LUTBAG and his 10 bodyguards and ask him to start a riot with the guys that are a PITA. Then I brand them and make them his bodyguard.

Just finished the story mode, while the game was great I feel like it was quite short. All that's left to do is finish up side quests, get all the achievements, and brand every single Uruk I see.

Ugh, one last Warchief to bump off and the only thing he's weak against is Combat Finishers (and no insta-kill...just takes more damage from them). And to summon him, I have to raise the alarm in the keep, so of course he's surrounded by about a bazillion Uruk's. This one's gonna take a few tries.

Summon, then hide. Or summon then use flies to get rid of the pests.

Yeah, gonna have to kite them around for a while and lose them with some flies, caragors, and fires/grog barrels.

I've died a lot, but really... this game is very much easy and I'm not even good at the combat. I only got my combo meter up to 40 once, and it's rare that it reaches 30 or even 20.

But your ability to use your storm of urfael and the like, you utterly destroy them. I basically destroy every boss with it. I did lose like 5 times or something to one of the bosses with minions, and was virtually immune to every type of attack, but that's the rare case. I also suck at fighting berserker >.>

Yeah, got all of the quests done to unlock all three. Now I've just got to save up the Mirian to buy them.
