Alright, as the thread title states, I've been away from the PC gaming scene for about 2 years now. I've always trusted the opinion of a lot of you guys here on [H], so I figured I'd start a thread and get some suggestions for some good games that I've missed in the last 2 years.

I enjoy a pretty wide range of games. From the TES games (Morrowind is my favorite, FYI.) to STALKER, to Battlefield to Civ, and pretty much anything in between as far as genres go.

PC specs are in my sig.

Most recently: Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor.

Awesome game, even if you don't like the Lord of the Rings universe.

No reason to go for the latest hyped game if you've missed out on some cheaper ones.

Off the top of my head

Alan wake
Insurgency
Payday 2
Batman Arkham city
Sleeping dogs
Dark souls 1/2
red orchestra rising storm
planetside 2
Arma 3

Thanks for the replies! I have Arkham city in my backlog right now, so I'll definitely get around to that. I'm downloading Planetside 2 right now as well, so I'll be giving that one a look. Definitely interested in Dark Souls 1/2 (Didn't know they released them on PC, so I'm happy to see that I'll be able to give them a try)

If you're into TES, Skyrim is an obvious choice. I think it's right at 2 years old now (maybe 3?).

Thanks for the suggestion, but at this point I've pretty much beat Skyrim to death by now. I think my hopes of any future TES games living up to Morrowind's standard have been dashed by now.

I'll take a different approach....

These are the games I currently have installed:
(@=frequent play atm)

Bioshock Infinite
Chivalry: Medieval Warfare @
FTL: Faster Than Light
Freespace 2 Open
Path of Exile @
Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm @
Terraria
Titan Quest: Immortal Throne @

Also, Farcry 3 was a damn good game. Especially using "Ziggy's Mod" etc.

I am keeping track of this thread too. Aside from FFXIV, I was away from the PC gaming scene for a while, as my computer sucked majorly. Now I'm back and trying to catch up on things. Just downloaded the Starcraft 2 starter edition, also finally started Diablo 3 which I'm enjoying. Terraria is a really simple but fun and satisfying game, I must say.

FPS:
Bioshock Infinite
Metro: Last Light
Crysis 3
Borderlands 2 + DLC
FarCry 3
Warframe (Free to Play, a lot of fun)

RPG/aRPG:
Divinity: Original Sin
Dark Souls II
The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing I/II
Blackguards
Shadowrun Returns
Path of Exile
Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls
Legend of Grimrock (Legend of Grimrock 2 coming soon)
The Witcher 2 (If you haven't already played it)

Strategy/4x:
Civilization V: Gods and Kings + Brave New World and all DLC
Age of Wonders III
Fallen Enchantress
Endless Legend
Warlock: Masters of the Arcane (a less pretentious 4x game, pretty fun)

Action/Adventure
Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
Batman Games (Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, Arkham Origins)
Dishonored
Tomb Raider

Roguelike/General Fun
Risk of Rain
Hammerwatch (very much like the old school Gauntlet game)
Faster than Light
Terraria
Monaco

Tomb Raider came out in 2013. Grab the GOTY edition during a sale for around $10. I still think it is one of the best games I have ever played.

Wow, thank you for the list! I'll be sure to give those a look.

Any particular genre you are really having an itch for? I can probably recommend some of my favorite ones that would suit you. Glad to have you back!

If you haven't played it, I'd highly suggest Trine 2. Otherwise there are a lot of other good suggestions here with Sleeping Dogs, Shadow of Mordor and the Batman Arkham series being favorites.

This is an EXCELLENT list. I would add the new Wolfenstein to the list for sure in the shooter section. Get FEZ on the list there somewhere. Definitely play Dishonored if you haven't. Terraria and Monaco have stolen a metric EffTon TM of my time away too.

Some of my favorite recent games:

Hawken
Broforce
Freedom Planet
Cloudbuilt
Strike Vector
Far Cry 3

It's nice to be back!

I've really been itching to get myself into a good RPG or an aRPG.

Thanks for the growing list everyone! Keep 'em coming! (Though I imagine the potential for any new additions is slowly dwindling)

I'd go with the recent.

Alien Isolation, you got to like this but...
Middle-earth Shadow of Mordor
Bioshock Infinite
MechWarrior Online
Battlefield 4

COD Ghost, but I'm the only one who like it.
