New iPhone(s) on September 9th

I got the 6+. I am loving it. Screen is great and I am enjoying all the extra screen space.

Sticking with equally sized top and bottom bezels was a mistake. OK, you need the giant bottom bezel for the home button, but the top bezel should have been slimmed down, like it is on the G3.

I checked one out today, and the bezels aren't all that big at all. My thumb is larger than the bezel thickness

Doesn't look amazingly better then my 5S, but yeah.

Its interesting to see that it looks better than their Sony sensor. I always figured Sony would have the best but these LG sensors seem to be doing very good.

1GB Ram confirmed. Can't say I'm surprised, Apple has never been above saving a few $. People will justify this by saying 'user experience blah blah' but software can't make up for lack of memory and both iPhone and iPad have very frequent reload problems due to this.

What do you mean by reload problems? I'm due for a new phone, never had an iphone but am kicking around the idea.

Mostly pertains to safari not being able to reliably maintain multiple tabs due to shortage of memory so when you go back to older tabs the page will end up refreshing. Waste of data for people on tiered plans. Similarly going to the cards thing by double pressing home button and selecting another app usually means the app has to load again instead of returning to the state it was frozen at.

The worry is a bit overstated -- it mostly happens if you're juggling a lot of tabs. I don't normally keep more than a few, myself, so I don't really see it happen very often myself.

Judging from this forum, I would have expected that the 6 Plus would be all the rage. As it turned out, the regular 6 is outselling the Plus by a large number.

Another reminder that [H] members are just too hard for the rest... Although TTL(s) still want to treat us like idiots. Stupid ignorant Samsung shills.

I've definitely had the experience, 5-6 tabs in Safari, and it often needs to reload. 1GB RAM is just not cutting it on iOS devices.

Did you ever consider Safari stinks?

Truth, my sister has like 20+ tabs open on chrome on her iPad Air. Never complains about it reloading.

I went to the store yesterday to play with it and it was actually really nice to hold surprisingly. It felt really premium and the glass wrapping down to meet the metal back was a really nice tough it felt smooth and seamless. Guess Ill be buying lots of iPhone 6/+ for Christmas gifts this year.

It's not the number of tabs but the content you're viewing. See how many tabs can be opened to http://live.theverge.com/apple-iphone-iwatch-live-blog/ before they start reloading. Scroll towards the end for each tab and park on a unique picture so it's easier to tell when it reloads since you lose whatever you were commenting or the page you were on. Briefly tried on an iPhone 5S running 7.1.2 and it never fully loaded the page on the first tab probably because it does some trickery where it loads a portion of the page at a time since the gear keeps spinning or I'm just impatient.

On a 3GB DRAM device it started reloading after opening the 9th fully loaded tab.

Tried the Safari tab test with http://live.theverge.com/apple-iphone-iwatch-live-blog/ link on an iPhone 6+ at Sprint store. Took so long to completely load and they locked it down so I couldn't WIFI tether to Verizon so it was quicker to drive over to Verizon store. The iPhone 6+ on Verizon loaded the page within reasonable amount of time but the first tab reloaded switching back to it after opening a second tab. This is after swiping away other apps from task switcher. Flick scrolling wasn't as fast or as smooth and the slider bar wasn't sized appropriately for the page size and erratically jumped around a lot. Some of this will probably be fixed in an iOS 8.1 release but the reloading will require iPhone 6S+ with 2GB DRAM or more.

For comparison, gave up after twenty-seven tabs  with no reload on a 2012 2GB DRAM device running an efficient Cyanogenmod 11 M10 ROM.

I'd say for real world use two tabs is bare minimum and six tabs for average use.

Both of these phones have the exact same size 5.5" screen; LG G3 and iPhone 6 Plus. And you have to admit the G3 is sleeker and more user friendly so slimmed down and little to no bezels. Man, Apple needs to do something with these hideous bezels come iPhone 7 in 2016.

This is my dilemma. Currently have a G3 and very satisfied with it, and my head tells me its miles better than a 6+ in almost every aspect (okay, maybe camera on the 6+ is better, but I never use my phone camera for mission critical pictures) but for some reason when I think of the 6+ all I get is. Want.

If I remember correctly, these camera module and sensor are not made by LG, it's by some Taiwanese company.

This is why I got the iPhone 6. Im coming from a HTC One M8, so i can handle the size, and I could probably handle a G3 fine, but the 6+ is just too much of nothing.

Paltry 1GB RAM on the most expensive phone in the market isn't a little thing.

Couple of friends on my FB have always been hating on the iPhones every time they get released. They are the "Android had it first" people. Well both of them are now posting how great their iPhone is and the picture quality is amazing.

My phone still isn't here. My Verizon Business Rep isn't answering any calls or emails, The phones should have been there on Friday but I cant get a hold of him. Rather annoying.

Speaking of picture quality, DisplayMate just declared that the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus have the best screens of any LCD-based smartphone it has tested.

http://displaymate.com/iPhone6_ShootOut.htm

Basically, the only areas they fall down on are in resolution (on the 6) and off-angle brightness, the latter of which happens for any LCD. The testing outfit doesn't seem to want to declare an absolute winner in LCD vs. OLED, but that's not surprising; you're making tradeoffs with either one. LCD tends to be brighter and thus more usable outdoors, while OLED has better contrast ratios.

Did they fix OLED displays burning in yet?

It's perfectly fair of them to compare two individual displays — or display technologies — on their merits. They are, of course, both displays.

It would also be fair of them to 'declare' an absolute winner, though refraining from doing though suggests they understand individual tastes are perhaps more important than performance metrics in any given sets of categories.

I need a new phone, mine is getting old, but I'm not excited about these stupid huge phones...but every one rages about how awesome they are...so I'll try them out. I may end up liking them, or may end up hating them, but now I just need to know if I should go half retard or full retard on size.

That last part is the key. As much as certain people here worship AMOLED, the truth is that it's not a clear-cut victory for either side. Heck, the iPhone 6/6 Plus displays are rare in behaving nicely when you're wearing sunglasses.

Dunno about that. Hard to tell the display is even on in this video.

No complaints with ambient light while in store.

Nah, I've used the iPhone 6 outside -- it's just dandy. The gap has definitely narrowed between LCD and AMOLED (the GS3/GS4 were nigh-on unusable in bright sunlight), but I'd still give a bright LCD a slight edge.

Display quality could actually be measured. So let's go by the facts... asking people to compare displays side by side is not like comparing who makes the best cheeseburger but rather asking people about their opinion on global warming.

DisplayMate said:
LCDs are typically more power efficient for images with mostly white content (like text screens, for example), while OLEDs are more power efficient for mixed image content because they are emissive displays so their power varies with the Average Picture Level (average Brightness) of the image content. For LCDs the display power is independent of image content.

For mixed image content (that includes photos, videos, and movies, for example) with a typical 50 percent Average Picture Level, the latest OLED Galaxy Note 4 display is 21 percent more efficient than the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus displays. On the other hand, for a Full White Screen the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are 45 percent more display power efficient than the latest OLED Galaxy Note 4 display.

So, now that everyone has had their phones for a couple of days. How is everyones experience so far?

I am really happy with my 6 so far. I like the size and the battery life seems better than my 5. The new camera definitely seems to work better and I am impressed at how fast it can focus and take decent shots. Also the fast charging in the 6 is a great feature for anyone with 2 amp chargers.

Only downside so far has been a poor selection of Good cases. I am using a Pelican case for now:

Good case and a fairly unique style, but a little cramped around the headphone jack.

How is it without a case? I generally prefer no case, but I heard it can be slippery.

Feels great without the case, however I've dropped an iPhone Touch at work enough times to not bother trying my 6 for a full day without protection :)

The Touch has similarly rounded corners and a super thin design. Definitely not easy to hold onto with a light touch, at least for me.
