For those of you that like your drivers a bit on the wild side, AMD has just released the new Catalyst 14.3 Beta V1.0 driver. Here a list of features and known issues:

Feature Highlights of The AMD Catalyst™ 14.3 Beta V1.0 Driver for Windows®
  • Thief: AMD Mantle and AMD True Audio support
  • Improves stuttering observed in CrossFire mode
  • Call of Duty: Ghosts: QUAD CrossFire profile update – improves level load times
  • Audio issues observed when using CrossFire configurations (and V-sync enabled) have been resolved
  • BattleField 4: V-sync issues observed on CrossFire configurations (with Mantle enabled) have been resolved

Known Issues
  • Intermittent driver stability issues when installing/un-installing on Desktop Kaveri platforms that support AMD Enduro technology under Windows 8.1. Please disable Enduro support to resolve the issue
  • Secondary GPUs do not enter low power state on CrossFire configurations; this issue will be addressed in the next AMD Catalyst beta release
  • Thief (DirectX): Lighting flickers on CrossFire configurations only after CrossFire has been enabled then disabled; this issue will be addressed in the next AMD Catalyst beta release
  • Battlefield 4 (DirectX): Quad CrossFire configurations with Eyefinity Display configurations suffer slowdowns and stability issues
  • Titanfall: Flickering occurs under AMD CrossFire configurations

I was hoping they fixed the Titanfall crossfire issues. Looks like we'll have to wait some more.

It says it fixed stuttering in crossfire in general. You tested and confirmed it doesn't fix it for titanfall?

It is ridiculous all the new games dont have crossfire support. I mean all the current games I play I have to disable crossfire which makes me wonder if my purchase was worth it. I currently play COD: Ghosts, Titanfall, State of Decay and ALL three of them are worse with crossfire. In Ghosts and Titanfall I get serious stuttering that kills my competitive edge in reflexes in those games and in State of Decay my fps cuts in half with xfrire enabled.

Titanfall is broken on multi GPU systems in general, its shit with SLI as well:

I agree. All the new games that don't have a crossfire profile making it really not worth it to do Crossfire.

This is so true.

I have 2 x R9 290x's but because multi-gpu is broken 90% of the time it seems, I always have crossfire turned off.

I almost want to recommend potential buyers not to buy a 2nd card. I will say, if you do, it's not smooth sailing at all.

i want to try these but im so happy with my 14.2's

BF4 mantle is beautiful at 1440p in crossfire (290s) and I can mine perfectly even while in crossfire.
[
might do this when I'm bored sometime tomorrow.

running new driver msi tf r9 270 @1050 and 1500. In bf4 im getting 60+ fps online with 32 people 4x aa no post aa everything else ultra pretty nice for a 190$ card

That known issue was already and issue. So I suppose they wrote that just to say "yea it isnt' fixed." I have read a few places that changing the textures from insane down to medium causes the flickering to be corrected in sli/crossfire, however I have not tested this yet. I am able to run the game in 6048X1080 with the bells and whistles with 1 of my 3 290X's. Much to my surprise. So I can wait.

And I just sold my second R9 270 =( Should have waited until after this patch came out but I was getting such horrendous results in everything but benchmarks it really wasn't worth it. I will definitely give these a try though, after taking out the second card and moving to Win 8.1 Pro I am getting 60+ on Ultra in BF4 (2xMSAA) on any map any server amount. It is SO smooth now it's amazing. Probably gained a good 15+ minimum and 30+ maximum. That's just with one 270x. Clocks are 1200/1500. FX-8320 @ 4.4Ghz for the moment...

I love how no one reads anything anyone else posts in this thread. Two people have pointed out that the Titanfall issues are Respawn/EA issues and NOT something that AMD or NVIDIA can fix and yet everyone goes on going on. Ha.

Ah, so nice to be able to enable vsync and not have audio crackling. Thanks for addressing this, AMD driver team. :D

lol... Yea...

On a side note, I just installed 14.3 a while ago, and they are working like normal. Nice update.

Does it matter where the problem originates from? most of the posts are lamenting the fact that most new games, for one reason or another are unable to use multi-GPU setups with 100% reliability "out of the box". I stopped using SLI years ago with the intention of jumping back in when the industry started taking SLI/Crossfire seriously and not as a quirky thing that some people like to do that we might support, occasionally. guess I will keep on waiting.

It does, really. I mean, if you're going to get into mGPU gaming - you HAVE to understand that you are going to be a 2nd class citizen. Developers make sure games work on single cards first - mGPU later...so if you are investing in mGPU and somehow you're head is in the sand thinking you're first line - it's probably not for you.

Give AMD/NVIDIA a break for a chance and let Respawn/EA fix the issues. Typically, SLI/CFX have been quite good with major/new releases...just now in Titanfalls case for whatever reason.

preliminary testing:

seems like a solid windows driver, unlike 14.1

Mantle still has gross VRAM issues on my 7870 in BF4, a evidenced by a test lap in the test server.

14.2 *and a BF4 pach lessened the severity of the stuttering, likely caused or partially caused by the VRAM issues. I will test further, later on, with a full 64 player Siege of Shanghai match, to see if the stuttering is better still, with 14.3.

For anybody that is running eyefinity using crossfire. Mantle doesn't work at all in BF4 so back to DX11 :(

Have you tried limiting your FPS using the gametime.maxvariablefps command?
I was having similar issues with Mantle on my 290x using a 120Hz monitor and setting my max to 120FPS seemed to resolve those issues for me.

It only uses one card in a borderless window. It also because DICE doesn't support eyefinity/surround portrait so Mantle will not work correctly while in portrait at least in BF4. Thats my experience with it and I dont even bother with Mantle at all since I can't use my 2nd card.

I will give it a try, but I'm not sure it will work. My problem with stuttering is from framerate dips and dropped frames. Not from spikes. Basically, whenever the VRAM get's overwhelmed. Which is all the time, since Mantle's VRAM usage is broken on HD7 series. I had to drop texture and mesh settings, to keep my VRAM swap bandwidth from being saturated. In recent, further testing: I found that overtime, the VRAM does still fill up anyway (VRAM leak). So eventually it comes down to raw bandwidth for swapping.

BF4 reports my 3gb 7870 as 2gb... and thrashes like crazy when it goes over that even though it's still got a free GB to nom on. Not sure if it's a driver problem or an app one.

are we going to be into 14.4 before we get a non-beta release?

This is not true. I just played multiple rounds... stable as heck at 3 x 1080p.

nm... annndddd today ever round crashed before I even get in. reset to dx11.1? no issues :(

Just had my first mantle crash, ran out of memory. I normally don't play BF4 very long but this morning I played for a few hours and it finally ate up all my ram.

Sic k of all the 14x issues I tried to uninstall 14.3 using DDU and safemode. When I attempted to put 13 back on I got BSODs during the install. Now all I can run is 14.3 , lol

Glad I just ordered a new MB , fresh install of windows here I come.
