Tomb Raider P3 vs. PS4 Comparison

Its fine. When you play on a console, you've implicitly accepted that you're going to get ripped off. Let the fools be parted from their money.

oh please... there are a number of titles I find better on console... 3rd person, driving... usually are better with controllers and if I am going to use a controller may as well use my 60" TV. (yes I know you can hook up a computer to a TV).

getting back on topic... no I do not think that is worth it at least for a repurchase... The story is the same and you will only enjoy those graphics for the first hour or so until you focus on the actual game play.

I can see full price but a trade-in program would be a good solution one would think.

More than worth it for those who haven't already bought the game, of course. PS4 like xBone is just a "PC on a stick" (a' la' 1980's surface-mounted on a motherboard), more or less, so why scrimp? Buy a PC and you'll be eternally grateful that you did!...;)

I'm prejudiced, of course. Driving games haven't interested me much at all (since I was driving real cars decades before the first gpu was sold), and I loathe console controllers--mouse and keyboard or nothing (console controllers make me feel as though I've had three fingers of each hand amputated)!

Does the pc version have subsurface scattering?

I don't think it did. There's also mention of things like a new poly-model for Lara's head, and some new blood/mud spatter texture stuff. I'm afraid those things are likely not going to be significant enough for me re-purchase the game on any platform and they certainly don't justify in and of themselves a "new game" pricing model.

lol, driving? My triple screen and racing cockpit setup w/ logitech G27 running true to life sims like Assetto Corsa, iRacing, rFactor 2 beg to differ..

And yet they could have done all those to the PC Version prior to release and sit on it until the next gen consoles came out and port it and re-sell it to the console dead heads?

And yes all that they did now that is new... ish could of already be handle by PCs already.

If you are going to buy it for the first time I don't see an issue with paying full price. It's one of the few good games available on the console. If someone didn't buy it before, that doesn't remove value from the game, so there's no reason why the price should be lowered.

It's cheaper on other consoles and PC now, but the consoles and PC have competition and everyone that was going to buy it at full price already got it at full price. This is the initial release on a new console. I'm surprised anyone would expect the game to go for cheaper. Even if the game looked exactly the same as it does on the ps3. If you don't think the game is worth that much, just wait for the price to drop.

Really? That is your counter? See people have little perspective.

You are talking about racing sim... a niche gaming market. Any niche market blows up requirements and costs to get the last 10% of performance. Nothing wrong with that at all, everyone should be passionate about things they like. You just can't honestly bring those niche situations into a general discussion like this.

I quoted some one that was so bold to say consoles players were getting "ripped off", which I can tell you in many cases in not true. I know the difference and I choose the ease of use, controller format consoles provide for certain type of games. Burnout on console is fun... I am not a niche racer, just like to play some driving games once in a while... it meets my requirements.

Games which I am more into (not tomb raider btw), I will happily play on my PC with my multi gaming 120hx gaming monitors (that I paid twice as much for)... Knowing full well that most people will not spend the money or time into FPS PC games.

I play mostly on PC but have to admit there's no $400 PC that can compete with the PS4. I wish I can buy an unlocked PS4 and run any OS on it or until Sony realizes the vision to offer an OS like Windows via hypervisor to do productivity when not gaming and media consumption. A $400 multi-use PS4 system can potentially take over the world.

Ok after watching the video, no not worth full price. As they said in the video many of the textures are already larger size and they get downsized for the particular system due to memory constraints. While yeah they did use some new techniques here and there the fact of the matter is they're not making a new game, there is a lot more expense to the game than the graphics and the fact they don't have to deal with story and level creation pretty much removes a big cost..

Find what the current price of the PS3 version is, add maybe $5 to it.

My son bought the Xbox 360 version (full price) and really enjoyed it. It looks good on the PS4, but it doesn't look like it'd be $60 better than the previous version. I wouldn't mind buying a new game for a new system if it were like a reference game in visual/audio (I've done the same with movies and albums). I'll buy it on sale, eventually.

There is a good difference between the two, but I would expect a bit more when it came to the graphics. Sharper, higher res textures are done, but some just look the same.... And the hair, that's weird. Nice attempt, but it just doesn't work for me.

I do own this on PC, too, but haven't played it there, either (remembered I bought it on the Steam sale a while back).

I'll save my money and buy a different game to showcase the new console.

Yea I'd rather race on a big 60in screen big pixels and all than three smaller screens with lines in the middle and hardly any vertical space. Anything more than that, and I'll go out and drive IRL.

TOPIC: I think the price is fine just as long as the older versions are like $30-40 max. I haven't played it yet but it's on my list of games to play. I'll just stick with the PC version though. [H] Master Race and all that...

I think it's more about convenience and less need for technical skills to setup the product, it serves a large niche, nothing wrong with that. Yes you sacrifice some quality and pay more in the long run, but convenience for a price is nothing new.

I don't see it that way. The way I justify the PC experience personally is: I need a good PC at home, I spend, say, $1000 to make one to use for my work or video editing or what have you, an all-purpose computing device. Now I wanna also make it play games, I have the choice between spending $200 on a decent video card or $400 on a console.

Now factor into that the fact that I don't need to pay a monthly membership on the PC to access multiplayer, and I have more control over my shopping options, and it's hard to knock the PC route.

Only thing going for consoles is, as mentioned in beginning, the convenience and simplicity of a gaming box, that counts for allot in the gaming market. And of course companies love having a dedicated device to program for and where less market options means more stable prices.

That's imho.

I bought it on Steam when they were having an incredible sale. I can not remember what I paid for it but I know it was extremely cheap. I will get around to playing it at some point. I'm sure the graphics will look just fine.

I am curious though. For someone who has played the PC version. Does PC version look like the PS4 version or the PS3 version? I would be a little miffed if the they left the textures gimped on the PC. I will still play the game because I heard it is a really fun ride.

PC master race in full force. I have a nice gaming PC with a good library of games. Many of those games I have on the console, too. I know that the graphic difference is there. Some games it matters more. Others, I'm too busy having fun. That's the #1 reason I play games - fun. I can crank up the graphics settings on my PC and I spend a lot of time ooo'ing and awww'ing and I love it. But, putting in a graphically inferior game in the console and playing it, I'm stuff having a great time.

So, fuck you. I'm having fun. Argue that point.

Then why upgrade from a PS3 to a PS4? ;3

Most people don't own $1000 desktop computers. Not everyone uses a computer for work or does video editing either.

Is it just me, or do the blacks seem crushed on the PS4 version?

This comment shall live on in infamy as there is no edit button!

But seriously it's probably Youtube encoding messing with the video. Vimeo has better video quality.

Well you can get by with $500, but I'm picky, I like having an 8-core $300 CPU in place of a 4-core $100 one.

For the context it's the same difference really: The point is, if you have a computer, you just add a video card to make it a gaming machine, most households have one lying around. That's the diff between a typical household with a PC playing games or not these days, a video card.

Then again, many households are moving to laptops as of late so that argument may not hold true as much as before so I'll give you that.

Hold on. You like driving games with a controller?! So you've never tried one other than using a gamepad or kbm.

Do yourself a favor and go on ebay, purchase a logitech wheel or the original 360 wheel if you are on 360 (probably $50 - I know REAL niche pricing), then come back and re-post your opinion.

Driving games are significantly better on PC if you have the means for a proper setup and significantly better on console with an inexpensive force feedback wheel and pedals.

That's your opinion. I bought a decent Fanatec set, and no matter what, a real life Honda Fit with an automatic is at least 100x more interesting to drive (to me) than a virtual Ferrari 458 or 911 GT3 with even the best of wheels, pedals, and sticks (even if neither car comes with a manual, anymore) (along with surround sound system, 27"-60" displays, etc).

So when I play "driving games," on the PC or on the console these days, the fanatec setup stays in the cabinet, and I use a controller.

Of course, one could make an asinine comment about how going around shooting people is more interesting than a FPS game, but I feel they have completely missed the point and aren't worth talking to. A car is a visceral experience that encompasses more than just a steering wheel and engine noises. No driving game has replicated that, so far (short of buying that multi-million dollar full motion simulator I saw in a car ad from a while ago).

I'll send that YT link to a friend who has PS3 and says he doesn't want PS4 until it's quite a bit cheaper.

Tired of people crying about the $60 pricetag. If that's too steep for you, don't buy it. And pretty please, STFU.

Console controllers are also plug and play with the pc....

Sure, I'd drive a Honda Fit in a rally cross and probably have way more fun than I would racing sims. But hey, that little Fit wouldn't be in very good shape by the time I'm done with it I can promise you that much.. In fact I just watched that episode of top gear last night where they did just that, makes me want to go out and buy an old Civic. Unfortunately I'm not really mechanically inclined though, so not being able to do my own repairs kinda blows that idea out..

No-one is comparing real life vs sims though, we're comparing console driving to PC. Sure niche market, I get that. But to say console is "better" than PC, come on... Give your head a shake. More accessible, sure. Better? No way.. And for that guy who says a 60" vs triple screen obviously hasn't tried it. 60" @ 1080p.. pfft.

Dust off that Fanatec wheel man and get yourself a copy of Assetto Corsa. I can't get enough of it, it's damn good even though it's still early access. Once MP get's released I for one am really looking forward to community organized racing leagues and fun club races.

That is why my preferred platform is PC, and always will be.

Peace out.

Hurray for more particles....I think the next gen version looks good, but i don't think current (last) looked bad. I'm looking forward to what this next gen brings besides particles and better textures.
