Am thinking about getting an 3770k or 4770k. If I were to get either, which motherboards would you recommend to pair up with either processor. I would like to overclock as high as possible, with that being the main criteria. Thanks in advance.

I'd like to keep it around $300 or under, unless there is a motherboard that's worth over $300 and is leaps and bounds above anything under $300.

Also how high you can overclock is based on luck. Those 2 boards are good you cant go wrong with either one.

Ok, thanks. The ones you listed are Ivy Bridge motherboards, right? If so, do you have any recommendations for Haswell motherboards? And would you have an opinion on which cpu is the better one to go with - 3770k or 4770k?

The motherboards i listed are for socket 1150, you should go with haswell which would be the 4770k

Those are Haswell motherboard:
Z77 = Ivy Bridge
Z87 = Haswell

As for which CPU, depends on good your luck is. While the 3770K does have a higher chance of an overclock hitting 4.5Ghz or more, due to the IPC increases that Haswell has, a 4770K at 4.2Ghz to 4.3Ghz (about the average overclock for the 4770K) would roughly equal the performance of the 3770K at 4.5Ghz.. In other words, in order for the 3770K to be really worthwhile over the 4770K, you would have to be very luck to get a 3770K that can be OC'd to 4.6 to 4.8Ghz.
