So I bought a PS Vita today.

Is the battery life on the Vita very good if you're only playing PSOne games? That seems to be what I'm experiencing.

Yea it's probably the same as what you'd get eating video.

So I got Killzone : Merc and wow does this game look beautiful. It plays great as well and the MP is pretty fun.

I got it on sale for $19.99 a few days ago so it was a no brainer. Also picked up Persona as well , another excellent JRPG (if you dig them) so I recommend that as well to those that enjoy them.

And I'm going to rant here but honestly I can't believe how much bad word of mouth this portable console gets. It has some seriously appealing games and while it doesn't have the strong first party games Nintendo does its still an excellent little portable console.

I think the main reason it hasn't gotten more support is because its easily the most powerful portable gaming solution I've seen. I own a 5th gen iPad with the nice high resolution screen but I have yet to see a game on it even come close to Uncharted : Golden Abyss or Killzone : Merc. I think perhaps developers simply do not wish to dedicated the full resources required to make a high end game as I would imagine its development costs can go higher than usual for portable games. That of course doesn't mean they can't simply make games without the goal of exploiting all the features at once , plenty of indie games prove that.

Overall I'm going to say I'm pretty impressed by the Vita. Lots of hate for this little console but not much to justify it other than the overpriced memory.

I just received my Amazon Holiday Bundle Vita and I love it so far. Only played Gravity Rush extensively, but I think it's great. Remote play to my PS4 is amazing, but the L2/R2 buttons are something I don't think I can get used to easily.

Anyone have any suggestions on grips?

I would suggest : http://www.amazon.com/CTA-Digital-V...6230341&sr=8-1&keywords=playstation+vita+grip

I got that and its quite comfortable. Yea the L2/R2 button config is weird but with a grip its actually far more usable and comfortable. Seriously a grip is a must buy with this console.

www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0072A4JVW/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1386247395&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70

The grip Godmachine referenced is good but I went with this one myself. The grip is awesome on the CTA Digital version but the L1 and R1 buttons remain the same.

The PDP version I linked has actual trigger that sit on top of them. It's obviously not perfect but it feels better to me Tbh. I have both because I didn't know which one I was going to like better.

With the CTA version you lose access to the charging port and game ports which for me was an issue since I have several battery extensions and a lot of software as opposed to being digital only (see expensive memory).

I posted my pic earlier in the thread and there are lots of images on the Web. If you have larger hands the CTA Digital grip is awesome though don't get me wrong. There are just sacrifices that need to be made either way.

If you have short playtime, your mostly all digital and have larger hands and don't care about the shoulder buttons it's an excellent buy.

With the PDP version if you have moderate or smaller hands and need access to ports and the charging port with triggers instead of shoulder buttons it's a good buy aswell.

The only thing left for me to get are thumbstick grips. There are a few out there that are awesome from what I hear but some come with various designs where no two are alike which I'm not fond of.

The reason it gets bad word of mouth is simple, its a game system, with very very very very few games, especially AAA titles. People say how much they love indie games, sony is so great for supporting indies, but nobody is going to buy a Vita so long as the largest extent of its library are indie titles. Uncharted is an OK game only, the plot in it is the absolutely most forgettable plot i think ive ever seen in a game. Killzone Merc is just like every other killzone, it only gets relatively high marks because it is on a handheld not because it is a good game.

The library on the 3ds absolute dwarfs the vitas, not just numbers but in quality. There isnt a single RPG on the Vita that even comes close to matching Shin Megami Tensei, or hell even pokemon. Persona Golden I couldnt even play because the several hour long into is absolutely absurd for a video game.

Vita already kills the 3DS just with its PSOne library.

yeah no, not even close. Again people dont buy shit to play old things, if they did the NVidia Shield would be selling better than either of these hand helds due to its emulation capabilities alone

Also by that same notion, the Wii U would be hands down superior to the PS4 and the X1 but thats not happening is it?

Yeah just like Ouya killed other consoles with emulators, right?!? People don't spend money to play old shit.

3DS has great new games coming out for it all the time. The Vita has a decent game come out once a season.

Lord our posts are way to similar lmao. Substitute Shield for Ouya and theyre basically identical

There are plenty of good games on it. More than enough to justify its cost frankly. I've got about 10-12 games on mine and they are all great and none of them are on the Nintendo 3DS in fact. The 3DS has a larger software library because its dirt ass cheap to develop for and it has a great overhead in terms of profit. You can pretty much make a half way decent JRPG and it'll sell pretty damn well on the platform because the audience for the 3DS is quite strong for that genre. I'm not a huge fan of Shin Megami Tensei frankly , I've tried it and wasn't that into it.

It sounds more like you personally don't like the titles on Vita in which case your argument is based on your taste but not the actual profile of the console and its games.

Believe it or not PS1 games sell very well on the Vita and the 3DS has an ass ton of old games on it that regularly top the charts so its just as guilty as Vita of tapping the old well for previous games. If you buy a Vita or 3DS when there are options like Shield and Ouya for emulation then you are wasting your money. You can buy a Shield on sale likely before Christmas and a memory card and have the ultimate solution for emulation on the go.

I'm not saying you should own a Vita over a 3DS but you should certainly consider a Vita if you are apart of the Sony ecosystem. It just makes sense , you get free Vita games every month if you are a PSN Plus subscriber . I had a ton of free Vita games waiting for me so it was a no brainer once the cost was right. I also recommend you getting a Vita if you own a PS4.

But to say that the Vita library is lacking really isn't valid anymore. Its gotten quite a bit more fleshed out since release for sure. Its gained more popularity in Japan as a portable console so I can only see some good releases on the horizon. If Sony drops the price of the Vita to $150 it'll be an even easier sale.

I disagree on games to cost being a good metric to purchase a Vita, it has 4 AAA titles imo.

Killzone
Tearaway
Dragons Crown
Uncharted

It has some good AA games like Little Big Planet, Gravity Rush, Wipeout, etc.

But until it's 149.99 I wouldn't say the games alone justify a purchase. Now if you have PSN+ and a PS4 then yes absolutely it is justified but that is not what a handheld should be. The games should define the platform and that is where the 3DS is simply dominating. I love my 3DS XL and Zelda is great, the games on the 3DS justify a purchase.

I have really been enjoying Rainbow Moon (it came out on the 3rd) and it is discounted if you have PlayStation Plus. I already have 11 games for it with four of them being from the Amazon bundle and 6 from PlayStation Plus (I did not get it until I got a PS4), and one purchased game. I have large hands and the Vita has been really comfortable to hold for a couple hours at a time which is as long as I play.

I was afraid it might just sit around doing nothing once I got it, but I have been playing it a couple hours a day. I am waiting for a 16 GB memory card to go on sale and have checked everyday with no luck (I somehow missed the amazon and gamestop one).

has anyone been able to use remote play away from their home network? I have 50mb down and 5mb using an Asus N65u router with upnp unabled as well as the ports Sony uses but my vita will never connect away from home. The only reason I bought a vita was to use remote play away from home.

Remote play was not designed to be used outside of your home network why would you buy one with that being the only purpose.

I've tried it before never worked great and isn't worth the hassle. Works great at home though.

Did you configure the PS4 properly? I'm pretty sure there is a checkbox in there somewhere you need to check (or uncheck) to play outside your home network.

Yes, you need to activate it as your primary PS4 which I have done. I also set the power options to keep internet connected when the PS4 is in standby. I really don't understand why it's not working.

Tried mine at work/school and it worked great.

Perhaps you are using it somewhere that has an aggressive firewall setup. I've seen Youtube videos of people using Remote Play via wifi hotspots from their phones.

I really really love this Vita I picked up to compliment my PS4. What a great little handheld. I hope it's sales do well, because it's hands down the best portable gaming system I've ever used - and I want developers to make lots and lots of games for it :)

Sales wise its not doing well. Its being destroyed by the 3ds

Most things are being destroyed by the 3DS. If the Vita gets a huge influx of games, or at least a steady influx of good games, then it'll probably improve significantly in sales.

Let me rephrase - I hope sales improve. I knew the 3DS is king - but IMHO the vita has it beat every which way. I hope there are a lot of people like me buying one to compliment their PS4 - only to then realize how well it stands on it's own. It's a shame that you don't realize how awesome it is until you pick one up and play with it for a while. All handhelds are the same - amirite? ;)

The vita is incredible and now with full hardware support for PS4 remote play it should really takeoff. The 3DS is great but really only worth buying for 3 things. Mario, Zelda, Pokemon.

As long as games still come out on it, I don't care. Honestly, I liked the PSP more than the DS last generation. It just had more games I cared to play. Right now, there are a couple games on the Vita that I enjoy, so I'm hoping for more.

Don't... don't do this.

Ha, I am not saying it's not worth a buy but it's a very limited device as far as technical users are concerned. Nintendo IPs are some of the best out there which is why the device continues to sell like hotcakes. I just love all the features of the Vita, there's so much to do, so easy to navigate, feels solid and built with the future in mind. It's definitely a device for the technologically savvy user.

I went and took a look at a Vita at WorstBuy tonight. The thing feels like a flimsy piece of crap. Not sure if that was because it's a floor model, but everything felt loose.

I would say it was because it is a floor model. I always felt the Vita was a well put together device.

Floor model controllers and handhelds always get flimsy. The N64 controller was by far the worst though lol. Most of them also don't have any padding or grip to the sticks, they are all worn off. I've seen some bad ones in my day.

Eh, my launch model Vita has wonky shoulder bumpers and two sticks that have a bit of stickiness. I don't know why they changed from the PSP shoulder bumper design (at least the PSP1000), which was perfect to me. That being said, my 3DS XL isn't all that great, either. Primary controls are great, but the screen hinge could be better.

I've only found two games on the Vita that I liked (Gravity Rush; Super Stardust), and a few others that I finished, but I still think the Vita still doesn't have a real reason for purchase. A few okay games, but nothing that really can justify the console price. Then again, I have met at least one person who loved Killzone: Mercenary, while I didn't like that game.

My Vita feels like one solid brick and I'm surprised at how uniform and dense it feels. Must be the floor model abuse thing. The only exception is the little cover over the spot where the games go in. I feel like in a year or so that will break off. Other than that - solid little device.

I've put well over a hundred hours into that thing so far and I just got it. P4G, Dragon's crown, teraway, gravity rush being the biggest draws. Haven't even touched the online library of classic PS games yet.

Totally happy with the purchase still. :D

Meh, I'll pick one up and give it a shot. I figure I'll grab Y's (I first played it on the Turbo Graphix 16 - CD) and a couple other RPGs. Still not enough out for the PS4 to warrant a purchase!

Mine gets delivered tomorrow. $189 for Vita, Walking Dead and 4GB card from Walmart. I've had PS+ for awhile so I have quite a few Vita games I can play. Looking forward to Uncharted.

Has anyone else had an issue with their Vita not charging via the included adapter? It will usually charge if I use a portable charger, or my computer, but it's very intermittent with the official charger. Won't even work with the iPad charger.
