Playing arkham city, and every so often I'll get these millisecond long full-screen checkerboards (looks to be green/black/red/etc). Game doesn't crash, but this is very annoying, and usually this sort of thing is indicative of GPU failure.

Return and re-order it - hopefully it's just a defective card and not a design flaw.

I just want to point out that visual artifacts can be caused by drivers as well. DX9 flickering, and 2D glitches due to drivers clocking down the cards too aggressively are examples of such.

nvidia game ... i'd check other games to see if u can replicate it.

doesn't really matter, it shouldn't artifact at stock

No kidding, that is the dumbest response. That is a flagship card designed to fulfill one role, to be able to play video games at a very high level and your response is, its an nvidia game LOL. Its either defective or completely inexcusable. Meaning, if its not a defective gpu, then there should be no reason that this is happening to the OP.

just RMA it.. don't fool around, if youjust bought it your within that 14day window or whateve return policy for where you bought it from..

just get a new one.

The thing is, I don't know which card it is yet.

edit: I'm also not seeing any problems on furmark or 3dmark

Well oddly enough I restarted my computer and it doesn't seem to be doing it at the moment..

Nevermind, it started happening again. Just filed my RMA on NewEgg. Luckily I have a 7950 I can use in the meantime.

Did you try single card to see which card it was?

That's the first thing I would have done.

I've had a similar problem with my 470 GTX on launch day. Luckily I bought it at Best Buy (in store) and they had more to exchange mine out for another. My issue was characters flashing across the screen in a pattern (with $ symbols in it) in windows 7 and during games with some weird checker board box like artifacts. In addition, the card was getting bad frame rates in World of Warcraft compared to my previous card, a BFG Geforce 275 GTX.

Once Best Buy replaced my card, the problem went away.

Well, I already have a plan lined up so we can cross this issue off the list. This is just what happens with bleeding edge tech I guess. Imperfect drivers, and all that.

Definitely sounds like a hw problem. I played through Saints Row 4 and 1/4 way through Arkham City, also with 290x's in x-fire, and haven't seen any issues aside from my third monitor going black (remedied by turning the monitor off and back on again) when not in Eyefinity mode.

Easiest way to check if the card can't hold its stock clocks without artifacting is to drop it down a bunch in the catalyst control centre. I've encountered my share of cards with red squares and crashes/hardlocks that were fine the moment you dropped the memory 100mhz or so. Return/RMA away. I actually found FEAR's first expansion super useful for replicating the issue as it would occur within 5 minutes or less with bad vram.

I'm already in the process of an RMA, unfortunately I've betrayed my roots and bough two 780 Lightnings in their place. I mean either way this gen, you can't really be disappointed, now that the 780s have dropped in price, it really is a buyer's market.

Completely agree; to me it's six in one and half dozen in the other. Competition is wonderful!

fuck, people are so impatient nowadays. you have a 7950 for a placeholder during the RMA and you went and bought other cards already?
