Baldur's Gate and Badur's Gate II Enhanced Edition officially just announced

Does the Enhanced Edition support widescreen resolutions?
It sure does. It has widescreen support natively built in. They also have an "in testing" big screen mode which really zooms out the game (but messes up the main menu a little).

My personal preference is the stand-alone version as you get the updates the moment they are pushed live. Plus it's nice not having to run any type of DRM running (not Steam). The Stand-Alone requires a 1 time online activation to use the updater, which you do when you buy the game, but the game itself is a fixed EXE, so you can copy out the game contents to a thumb drive or whatever and play it anywhere. When you want to grab the latest patch connect to the internet, and run the launcher. Then just copy the data back over.

How does multiplayer work for this game? Can you play the full game in co-op?

It's practically unusable with 3+ players, but seems to work ok with just 2. My friends and I are eagerly awaiting a multiplayer overhaul.

Right now, you have to know the players IP, which means local LAN works best but if you know your way around a router (and port forwarding) you can set up to play across the Internet. They are putting together a matchmaking server that will hook up players online to play together. It's being tested internally right now, with more news coming soon.

Is everyone on PC or are some on iPad? Also, do they have version 2012 of the game, as there have been significant improvements in the past couple of patches.

Excellent!, thanks.

PC. We haven't tried multiplayer again since the patch this week since we've started a NWN2 campaign while waiting for BG:EE to mature a bit.

What about mods? Do any of the old old mods work or have things changed enough that they need to be redone/tweaked?

Mods that are bug fixes are not required as almost all of those types of bugs were fixed in the source code.

Mods for ease of use type things or other enhancements, for the most part work, but you want to use the BG2 version of the mods. Say, instead of BG Tweaks, you need to use BG2 Tweaks.

The only difference is that you need to copy your dialog.tlk file from 00766\lang\en_US to the 00766 folder (Root of data files). Then create the Override folder in the 00766 folder. If the game is patched you will need to copy the updated dialog.tlk file back to the root. The reason for all this is that they had to move around some of the files in the directory and the mods were made long ago. Many are being updated to support BGEE. The option other than having to copy this file is to make symbolic link to fool the mods into thinking the file is in the right spot.

For English language users of Vista/7/8, at an elevated cmd prompt:

mklink /H dialog.tlk .\lang\en_US\dialog.tlk

One of the respected community modders, and a scripter on the BG:EE team, has posted a list of the mods that are not needed and compatibility status of others

For those who are unaware, BGEE has shipped for Mac via App Store and stand alone via the Beamdog.com website.

I recommend purchasing the stand alone as the developer receives 100% of the revenue (this is a small studio).

Also, the latest update included 5 new kits (1 Fighter, 2 Monk, 1 Thief, 1 Sorcerer).

The team is also knee deep in Android development, and are now beginning to test on hardware devices for compatibility.

I hope Steam has a sale for it so I can pick it up. I rushed through the original that I bought last year, but I missed a lot of stuff.

$9.99 On Steam... get it.

Oh notice major Screen, flicker, found out you have to create a game profile an have Tripple buffering off, sometime Mouse hardware accel off to get rid of it. FYI.

I don't have any screen flicker at all? Looks perfect minus the really old school textures in high res.

Got it from Steam daily sales.

Had some graphics problem with Steam overlay on, so I just turned it off and everything seems fine at the moment. Well I hope many of its launch problems have been patched.

Picked up a copy during the Steam daily sale. Never played it when it originally came out, but really enjoying it so far (after getting a feel for proper combat tactics).

Should I be depressed that I can't seem to not get wiped out by that house full of spiders early in the game?

haha, I remember that fight from a long long time ago...some old lady who wants you to collect some boots and wine and a cape or something. That fight can be pretty hard. I would equip slings on everyone if you're low level, enter the door, hit the first spider with slings, move everyone outside, re-equip appropriate weapons and fight them in the entryway.

Minsc can be a big help with his rage skill in fights like this. It's hard early on!

You can do it at level 2 but it really depends on how many are in your group. Try to focus on one spider and keep a few back for ranged support. Have a few potions on the melee's.

For those who haven't heard yet, this game has been pulled from the Beamdog and iOS store (still on Steam). Apparently there are contractual issues that need to be ironed out before it can be put back up for sale. Why would these issues appear after 8 months is beyond me.

Since it's still for sale on Steam, I bet it has something to do with Atari selling a separate version (for those who don't know, the Steam version is not sold by Beamdog, Atari runs it). Since Atari is going through bankruptcy, it may have something to do with that as well.

Speaking of Steam, BGEE is 5 bucks (75% off) right now till the 4th.

BG:EE has been patched to version 1.2 for Beamdog and soon for Apple purchases (currently awaiting Apple approval), but not Steam.

An enormous amount of improvements including a new UI, multiplayer matchmaking, and a rendering engine that enhances performance and compatibility are now live. Also, several modder friendly changes have been made to externalize previously locked features. There's many bug fixes as well, simply too much to list.

Check out 1.2 patch notes and new UI

If you have held off on buying this game, there's simply no more reason to wait. Remember, you can buy from Beamdog and use the stand alone version. You download a stub installer and it launches, downloads and patches the game, and you run it. No BD client required.

It looks like through Beamdog the PC and Mac versions are separate purchases. Does anybody know if that's also the case with Steam? Am I wrong about the Beamdog versions?

You can contact support email and they will be able to get you access to the other version.

BG:EE MAC now updated to version 1.2.

BGII:EE will run on 1.2 code.

Steam and iPad versions of 1.2 are still in the works.
