If you ask me, I think Microsoft needs to match the PS4's $399 price to put the pressure back on Sony.

If you do a focus group of a gazillion people and you show them two prices for two competitive products, 100 percent always prefer the lower price. I think from a first impression standpoint the win goes to Sony, at least as it relates to pricing. Microsoft is going to have to win the hearts and minds and convince people that the higher price point is worth it.

It is common knowledge that Sony went five years without posting a profit and, when it did, it was only because it sold two buildings for a billion each. The company can't afford to be forced into a price war with Microsoft, a company flush with cash. So, I think Microsoft needs to match the price or, at the very least, a $50 drop and add in free games and/or a year of Xbox Live Gold.

Why? From a purely hardware perspective, it has already been told that Sony took their camera out as a pack-in specifically to be able to undercut Microsoft's price point. Microsoft's justification is the Kinect is mandatory hardware with a feature set that a Sony user would have to pay an equivalent amount for in addition to the original $399 price.

Much ado about nothing.

Lets not forget that EVERY Xbox unit including a technologically superior Kinect device allows devs to make games that utilize the max potential. Bottom line is that better more innovative games will come out on xbox. Better versions of the same game will also be the norm. Playing Skyrim with kinect was all I needed to see the potential of that.

Im buying an Xbox ONE becasue , quite frankly it is worth it and the better value long term.

and also Id like to note that the eye camera Sony had this gen and last is an absolute joke.

I guess if price is the only factor between competing products, then Nintendo wins.

Activision needs to justify my $60 for another cookie cutter COD game. That is all they need to worry about. Microsoft will be fine.

Sadly Kinect is not something that sells systems , developers know what works and what does not, the classic controller still works everywhere some of the other gimmicks can be nice but will it be a feature that will beat the PS4 ?

I thought that E3 this year showed that MS has games lined up well worth it, any kinect titles that impressed me , not really.

Yeah cause the Kinect was the best piece of tech last year that had zero flaws and everyone bought one because of how fucking amazing it is.

No one is going to use the new Kinect to its full potential. Its a dead market just like motion controls.

Except that doesn't make any sense, because the PS4 is $100 less than the XBOne and the camera retails for only $59.99.

Activision's getting a cut of Live Gold subscriber money in exchange for the COD DLC exclusive months, and this is their way of asking for more. If the Live Gold yearly price goes up for the Xbox One, well, that'll be the second time that happens.

EA getting 40 mill for a year of Titanfall not being on the PS4 was a sick deal compared to Activision's bonuses.

I think he's dead wrong; I don't always assume the lower price is better. I always ask why? 'You get what you pay for' also comes to mind which means, sometimes the more expensive product is the smarter choice. Explain that Mr. Hirschberg.

Don't misunderstand me, I am not talking about hardware specs, console specs, etc. etc. etc. I am talking purely from a "if MS wants to steak Sony's thunder" perspective. Microsoft is in a position to take a hit by matching the price of the PS4. Sony (financially) cant take a hit like MS can, so the chances of them retaliating with a price cut of their own is slim to none.

The Kinect pack-in is not an excuse for justifying the higher price. I personally am avoiding the Xbone 180 due to it being mandatory to have it connected. Also don't forget the disparity in GPU's between these consoles. The PS4 uses a version of the Radeon 7850, while the Xbone 180 uses a down-clocked Radeon 7790. And if your reading this, you know which one is better....

You have valid points. Though, hardware is not really a factor when deciding who is better when it comes to playstation vs xbox. I'm willing to bet that most games will be near identical in the graphics department. It all comes down to exclusives and which ones are a more enjoyable gaming experience. Also, your mandatory connection point is moot. They have since reversed course on the always connected requirement. You only need to connect one time on first power up.

For how Microsoft has handled this past year with it's PR blunders, ill intentions and backstepping, they could lower it to 349$ and I still wouldn't buy it. For me, there's just nothing about the X1 that intrigues me. I'm sure there will be some solid games out for it, Dead Rising 3 looks nice, but not enough to buy another system from them.

#1 Nobody cares or likes Kinect. It's a gimmick device that nobody wants.

#2 Nobody wants to come home from hard days work to dance in front of their TV like an idiot.

#3 Nobody wants something that'll likely spy on you.

NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE & NOPE

You're "willing to bet they'll be near identical", based on what? A feeling? The hardware disparity in past gens of Playstations and Xboxes was arguably closer. This time around its a whole lot bigger. There are going to be side-by-side comparison videos when a game comes out.

And the guy wasn't talking about the internet connection being mandatory. He's talking about the mandatory spycam aka Kinect2. MS charging $100 more for a device I don't even want and am not allowed to unplug, no thanks.

He's talking about the kinect, not the online requirement.

mandatory kinect made no sense unless they plan to use it in ways they didn't want to reveal. Like part of their DRM scheme or charging movies per person or sensing your attention and biometrics while you watched TV and ads.

xbox one, the box that watches back.

Activision could sell CoD games for $80.00 and people probably would still buy it.

going with ps4 simply for the fact that they're console is so much more powerful this generation. AMD seriously f***** MS in the hardware department. I would be willing to bet money that PS 4 exclusive games down the road will look way better than Xbox ones.

How on earth does Activision/Blizzard have the gall to talk about consoles being too expensive when they charge way too much for their games? Baffling.

How is it AMD's fault?

People are judging the hardware just on specs. I am waiting till there released and see how the games look before i make a judgment. I currently own both a 360 and ps3, ps3 has become a blu-ray/Uncharted player, Xbox just basically halo and the occasional kinect games when friends come over. I'm in no rush and will probably wait till after holiday price cuts.

I was talking about the Kinect. What with PC, PS4 and Xbone 180 being very similar it's just an issue of scaling, and when it comes to that you'll see the Xbone 180 always be the worse, you'll see it when it comes to graphics such as particle effects. It's most reflected in frame-rate, not so much graphics effects. The Xbone's GPU (Down-Clocked Radeon 7790) is markedly worse tho when compared to PS4(Radeon 7850) and a gaming PC (like Mine, GTX670).

Was this a paid advertisement in disguise? Otherwise this is a pretty laughable post.

Eh . uninfirmed. I could care less if MS wants to watch me jerk off in front of a kinect on national TV. People with things to hide fear spying

We have 5 kids and they use the both the PS-3 and X-box 360 about the same amount. I prefer my PC (of course) and when I do use a console it is usually the PS-3, but no one ever uses the Kinect camera on the X-box. They played with it for the first few days after we got it and then it just say and gathered dust, total waste of money.

If Microsoft won't sell the X-bone without the always on camera the kids will be getting a PS-4 this Christmas. Microsoft is becoming just as anti-consumer as Apple, Sony seems like they have finally gotten the message after their countless foibles.

the kinnect is not always on, you can toggle it. it is easy to spot the trolls by throwing a bone. lol :)
