If you ask me, I think Microsoft needs to match the PS4's $399 price to put the pressure back on Sony.
It is common knowledge that Sony went five years without posting a profit and, when it did, it was only because it sold two buildings for a billion each. The company can't afford to be forced into a price war with Microsoft, a company flush with cash. So, I think Microsoft needs to match the price or, at the very least, a $50 drop and add in free games and/or a year of Xbox Live Gold.
If you do a focus group of a gazillion people and you show them two prices for two competitive products, 100 percent always prefer the lower price. I think from a first impression standpoint the win goes to Sony, at least as it relates to pricing. Microsoft is going to have to win the hearts and minds and convince people that the higher price point is worth it.
