Grid 2.

I assume they meant developer resources, as in the work to model that shit / get the displays and gadgets set up, etc.

Nope.

Moody said that telemetry data for previous games revealed that only five per cent of players used the in-car view in any Codemasters Racing game. When the developers weighed that against the amount of system resources that the in-car view used up, they decided it was better for the majority of players if they cut it.
(note: emphasis made my me)

"While we certainly don't want to alienate any of our fans, we want to deliver truly exciting features that 100 per cent of our players will enjoy".

Obviously not. But at least we have achievements!

To take this slightly away from the "no cockpit view" rage, the reason they said they removed it was because "the amount of system resources" cockpit view took up. But here's the thing I don't get. In cockpit view, you actually have to render less stuff. You have a more limited POV of the environment (only through the windows), as opposed to the whole screen. I just don't see how cockpit view uses more system resources.

Yeah, they're full of it. Not to mention that there is no "telemetry" that they can use to measure how many people are using cockpit view at any given time. Maybe if there was some sort of active online monitoring system they implemented, but that is highly unlikely.

In short, they're full of it.

If Forza 4 and GT5 can pull off their cockpit views with no issue, Grid 2 can as well.

Even if you had to "pre-select" it before the race and it rendered slightly less would still be a viable option for things, I'm pretty sure they will still do 2 player mode on 360 and that is for sure going to have some sort of scaling so it should be pretty easy to lower l.o.d. polygons or something simular...

You know, if the percentage of people I've heard raging about no cockpit view at all correlates with the percentage of people who will boycott this game, I'm sure Codemasters will find the "resources" to patch the feature back in.

Somehow I doubt that will be the case, though.

Screen shots make me thing one thing: POST PROCESSING OVERLOAD.

Am I the only one who is not fond of this style?

No cockpit means no buy. I'll check it out when it gets to less than $5 on a whim purchase.

I normally drive while viewing slightly above and behind the car so lack of cockpit view doesn't affect me. It would be nice to have the option available but it is not going to affect my decision to purchase the game.

Cockpit view never works well in racing games anyway, because you cannot feel what the rear of the car is doing. At least viewing above and behind you can see what the car is doing and make the appropriate corrections.

It not about making the game as easy as possible. Until you can actually feel the G's in a game while cornering cockpit view just isn't realistic, and actually more challenging than it needs to be. If you ever raced a car in your life you would understand.

I played the game in cockpit view and had a hard time at first but later on was doing as good if not better then playing with rear view. Bumper view would annoy me less if I had 3 virtual mirrors (on the top/sides of the screen) and still had the windshield effects (rain, glass shatter, mud, ect.)

It's simply more a visual thing than "feeling" the car in a video game. Learning to react to those visual cues is key.

Regardless, I'll be trying it. The original GRID was one of my favorite racing games of all time.

Which is the reason I prefer a 3rd person view for those visual cues.

Just as easy to get a visual cue from looking out the window as it is looking at the tail end of a car. Usually you can judge which direction the car is going by the angle of the nose. Also you get a better perspective of what you are about to run into.

Is this for a steam code?

Me too. I'm hoping beyond hope that there's some sort of skill matchmaking going on so I don't have to play w/ people that are insanely better than me. :D

This game requires a free Steam account to play.

Yes, rear of the car feel is super important.

The two views I use are over the hood and cockpit. I use over the hood because I can feel what the back end of the car is doing better. Sometimes I lose that perspective in the cockpit (if there is too much fake head sway/turn throwing it off), but otherwise, I enjoy the mud & dirt & rain that hits the windshield. It just feels more real.

That type of behavior almost never happens in person so I don't know why they think it should happen here. I can just see one of them throwing tacos at the staff in Taco Bell and screaming at them because they wanted a Spicy Chicken from Wendy's and why the HELL does Taco Bell not server SPICY CHICKEN ROAROAOROARORO.

You're analogy is completely backward to support a mythical point you are trying to make. Nobody is asking them to serve something they haven't served before. To complete your analogy, this is more akin to going into Tacobell and finding out that because Wendy's chicken sammy is popular they are going to stop selling burritos they have to wrap them differently. Or something...

Cockpit view has been in every single one of their games. It was never a problem before. It made them different from some other racing games. And quite simply another PC game suffers because a console is too weak to run it.

This is no different than when they removed the ability to lean in F.E.A.R. sequels. No its no better than any other FPS.

GRID was a fun game, I'm not sure if I'll be buying GRID2, i'm still on the fence. Maybe when it's like $20 I may snag it, I have plenty of backlog to go through anyway.

Codemasters are some of the laziest developers I've ever come across, so the cockpit view deal isn't surprising to me. I have spent some time in their forums and they are very active in the community BEFORE a game is released, answering questions, hyping up their product and they are virtually non-existent once the game is released, even if it has what some would consider, game-breaking bugs.

It's for this reason, and not so much the cockpit view that GRID 2 will be a bargain bin purchase instead of a pre-order for me.

Ouch...hopefully this one will be different.

What's sad is that I was hoping for a sequel to toca 3...then I found out that was grid. Grid 2 comes with grid and after installing it, I remembered that I didn't like it. :(

Also, grid has cockpit view...and I like it. :(

In multiplayer can you have AI cars fill the remaining open slots in a race. I only like to play with my friends, so if just me and one friend are playing we are the only ones on the track. It's like this in most racing games I've played and it annoys the hell out of me.

And "No", I don't want to play with a bunch of random people who are more interested in wrecking you than racing if they get behind (i.e. driving the wrong way on purpose).

I read somewhere that by driving clean, you will be put into matches with like styles. ie, u wont play with crashers.

This is key. Nothing worse than duelling it out with another driver the whole race just to get totalled at the last minute by asshats parked sideways right in front of the finish line.

I've been watching gameplay vids of this for a bit... good lord this looks like the most generic arcade racing game ever. Absolutely nothing new from the last generic arcade racers from the last 8-10 years.

GRID has always been a arcade racer, it has never tried or pretended to be a simulation racer
