/Vader Noooooooo , Gearbox acquires Homeworld IP.

I was just coming here to post this news. I think there were far better choices for developers for Homeworld than Gearbox. Sadly money talks. I think the best possible outcome for PC gamers and for Homeworld fans would be if Gearbox got someone like Relic or Paradox to actually make the game and then Gearbox gets the profits.

At least it sounds like they want to bring the originals back on gog/steam ect.

You can't blame Gearbox for DNF. It was 90% "complete" when they acquired it. All they did was finish it up and get it out.

We can blame them for Aliens: Colonial marines though right?

It's their name on the box. It was Pitchford himself who hyped it to absurdity.

So, yeah, I can blame Gearbox: they knew what they bought; they knew what they were working with; they knew what they shipped.

I hope everyone really wanted a Homeworld FPS... oh that's right... nobody does.

Oh well, I'm used to being disappointed by refreshed IPs by this point anyways.

just a reminder: we'll never forget you, you lying cocksucker.

NOPE

I hope Gearbox throws tons of $$$ into this, it fails miserably and Gearbox dies a slow, excruciating death .... schadenfreude

Borderlands 1 and 2 are still good games, I'm looking forward to "Inglorious" Band of Brothers and a 3rd Borderlands. Other than that, DNF was a practically finished game that they just unloaded to get it out there and Colonial Marines wasn't done in house, but under the Gearbox logo and with mods looks like everything it was suppose to be (why they just haven't put a couple of modders on the payroll to release a good patch for the game I do not know). Gearbox does have a nasty habit of releasing unfinished games, Borderlands 2 being the only exception.

What? You don't want another Borderlands DLC named Borderlands 3? ;) What about Aliens: Colonial Marines 2, the Do-Over, with mind-bending kickass graphics that will put anything released on XBox (not 360) to this day to shame?

Cool.. so this IP gets fucked over while they are undoubtedly churning out the next Borderlands.

Borderlands 1/2 are both "ok" games that are riding on the "loot" focus gameplay like Diablo does. the Actual gameplay of them is nothing special or remarkable really.

Brothers in arms is their best series (I think you got it confused with Band of Brothers, the HBO mini series, which is great as well), but the Inglorious game is being redesigned as not part of this series anymore and they intend to make another real BIA game.

Aliens: CM, no amount of "modding" will fix it. Yes it will help with the graphics somewhat (but no where near what we saw in the "demo" that was shown at e3) but it won't fix the crappy story that throws Alien/s cannon into the wind nor will it fix gameplay, with Aliens that are dumb as a box of brikcs and just run up to the player like a HUMAN (and not an alien) and stand in front of people to be shot.

You can not take the blame off of Gearbox because it was done "out of house." Sega hired THEM to make the game, it was in their hands, they made the choice to hire it out and didn't do it all themselves, they cheated sega out of money and focused on Borderlands 2 instead. They didn't give the game the attention it deserved and by that right it is THEIR fault, not Timegate, not any other studio.

Randy lied out of his face to gamers about the game, about how much they "cared" about the Aliens franchise and respected it. They just pawned it off to be made on the cheap and uesd money from Sega to build BL2. Why Sega hasn't taken them to court or filled suit over it yet is a mystery, as they certainly seem to have a leg to stand on with it.

I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of RTS fans suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.

Randy Pitchford destroy's another beloved franchise , I wonder how many developers will take turns raping whatever gets made from the developer dungeon on this soon to become a fuckfest game?

By the time it gets released it'll probably be the same kind of toothless hooker addicted to meth with more crabs than the Deadliest Catch could fish up in one season that Aliens : Colonial Marines turned out to be.

Sigh.

The hell with this.

If it's a Gearbox property not named Borderlands forget it.

I think after the next 3-4 years, everyone hear will be inserting their foot into their mouth and see the wondrous works of Gearbox for saving and reviving certain franchises...
Or I really hope so anyway, I am an optimist :)

I started Duke Nukem Forever last night.

It's weird game to play. Graphically speaking its interesting to see such an old engine. The walking animation of NPCs is identical to Postal 2 and VTM:BL. I finished both of those in the last year or so, I can comfortably say while I have a minimum threshold on graphics these dated graphics do not hamper my gameplay in the least. What has made the game a chore to play so far is the lack of personality. I never played the original Duke Nukem(and then you stopped reading) so I don't know much about the origin, but this one is just sad.

I have no problem with a macho idiot superhero, but the reason why the ever womanizing Bruce Campbell is popular is because hes a total clutz and and actually has funny things to say.

In the beginning of the game after a short intro you draw back to find youd just finished a Demo while having relations with two girls. They leave stating "See you at the party!" Your response is "..see you at the party" in the most monotone voice ever. This seems to set the standard for the game so far. Duke is the most boring lame character I've ever been forced to play. I would take campie bad over that any day.

Even if GearBox received 100% complete game it would have been through basic testing they could have seen right away the voicing was bad it had to be redone and It would have taken a week to record better lines.

And thats all I've seen out of Gearbox. Just feet shuffling. It makes me sad and I've no intention of ever buying another Gearbox title again.

Well...at least you'd heard of it I guess? :p

It's an RTS set in space...a very good one. Popular enough that they made two of 'em.

^ Short of being a game... no.

Game of the Year '99. I remember my brother bought it as a kid thinking it was going to be a flight simulator kind of thing and threw a tantrum when it wasn't. Later, I sat down with it and was mesmerized by the story, sounds, music, and the gameplay. It was the first RTS of its kind I think and in my top 5 as far as stories go. Very good. I would say the game holds up really well even today, dated graphics and all.

The Borderlands games are good but they are very rough around the edges and the post-launch support for the PC versions have been terrible. I don't see how Gearbox can do an old PC franchise any justice at all.

Would you say the original is still worth playing? I think I passed on the original just because the graphics were a little...simple even for then. I did play through the 2nd one though, even though I remember having to cheat my way through the one level by adding extra ships because the one level was really tough.

The only time I had to give Gearbox money was because of DNF. I wish I could give it to George Broussard, Scott Miller, and all the other guys who actually worked on the game, but oh well, life is cruel and I had to give money to a studio and a person that I've always despised with a burning passion. Still, I love that little Duke Nukem bust :)

Homeworld? The game kind of sucked. Yes, it was a good idea with a terrible execution. I just couldn't (and still can't) consider that thing a game. Don't give a fuck about a new one and wouldn't buy it anyway.

How did it have terrible execution?
