Best CES 2013 Award Ever

too bad someone killed the hopper inflatable this year at ces.

it was all deflated

Well played. But, for me, CNET's reputation and credibility is ruined. They say not to buy something, I wonder if their motives are financial or if the product is truly flawed.

DirectTV or Dish is constantly in a pissing contest with one channel or another, and thus I'll never go back to satellite.

I want a dvr by comcast that can record more than 2 shows at once.

Go Tivo with Cable Cards. They have a 4 tuner unit.

I have a 2 tuner unit and a 4 tuner unit. I don't miss nuttin' :)

Out of topic: was reading Forbes' article of the Dish Hopper before I spotted the Thinkpad Helix. Holy crap I really want that. I hope Windows 8 can bring back the creativity in making elegant tech.

Yep. But to be fair CNET hasn't been credible in ages. Now however its even worse which is hard to believe.

You really can't beat a Tivo for your DVR needs. It's user friendly, reliable and has a great interface. Too bad they're struggling and falling behind. Great devices.

Yea I used one for years and its truly a hallmark when it comes to DVR's and interfaces for DVR's.

Im still surprised that Dish seems surprised that national networks arent happy that people skip all their revenue generating ads. Wait until the big networks come up for negotiations again and see just how much Dish Network is laughing then.

Honestly, you should wonder that about ANY company that does reviews.

Yeah, this is pretty much the final nail in CNET's coffin. Can we treat this as an advertising and malware site now?

They need each other , Dish has a huge user base. So the negotiations will likely go as they usually do.

However it'll be interesting to see the out come of the Hopper lawsuit. If CBS wins then it could be a major hit to DVR's in general. The worst case is possibly not being able to fast forward at all possibly during flagged TV shows that you record because of that lawsuits out come.

That would be fucking retarded.

There is a reason for that. They aren't willing to take it in the rear from the content providers who constantly raise their prices and try to rape the providers by bundling shit channels in to their contracts. Cable Companies on the other hand will simply pass those costs on to the consumer, since they often have a monopoly in a particular area because others won't (or can't) use satellite.

Originally, I thought CBS/etc may have had a case when it was rumored that Dish was simply downloading primetime anytime without commercials. But now that I've used it, I can say that:

- It actually records the shows, so it is no different then a user recording with his DVR.
- The "auto-hop" feature becomes active hours after the show aired. It's like they have someone watch and tag the commercials (Snapstream used to use an algorithm to do it).

If I recall, the main argument for the lawsuit was that it violated the On-Demand agreements. Since nothing is being downloaded through On-Demand, I don't see it holding water. But then again, technology is often misunderstood with jurors.

I agree, there needs to be some of that. I don't feel the urge to pay more for my satellite because five obscure channels I don't watch suddenly decide they're worth another dollar per month.
