Are there any games for adults left out there?

I don't mean adult as in nudity and extreme violence, I mean games that don't bother you with extreme hand holding, quicktime events, cliched storylines, and other dumb ideas that seem to plague and water down the games of this generation. I want a game that actually expects the user not be a complete dumbass that needs to be told everything. I like Deus Ex HR, in that it just gave you an objective and you figure out how to accomplish. I want more games like that. I've been really frustrated with all the games I've played lately with how dumb they are.

The Witcher 2 (WRPG)

Sure it has some nudity but it doesn't hold your hand & expects you to figure out how to fight the enemies in the first battle. I actually enjoyed figuring out the combat. :)

Crusader Kings II and Xcom (even though it's got a decent tutorial it still has that old school vibe and can be hard as hell) for RTS's
X3 for space sim
Spec ops: the line, it might play a bit like your generic shooter, but it's meant to for a reason because of the storyline. It's one of the first anti-war games and it's inspired by Heart of Darkness (IE what Apocalypse now was based on). Has a good storyline and some things in the game you won't find in many other shooters in terms of what you do and how it makes you feel about your actions. Howver if you are looking for adult games in terms of gameplay then it might not be what you're looking for.

When you find one let me know. I've played most of what has already been suggested and yes, some don't hold your hand "as much" as current great hits. I mean, it might not have a hud but you're still shuffled down the same hall.

Um, I know you said no fantasy but that might be a little hard... What comes to my mind would be morrowind or betrayal at krondor. I'd have to sit and give it some thought, but I'd probably come out with the same list of old games as you.

I agree for the most part with the exception of game mechanics. I hate games who either don't come with a manual or don't include info on how to do the basics. To all developers, 'No, your crafting/buffing/trading/buying etc. is NOT obvious nor, self explanatory and it isn't FUN learning by trial and error.'

I wouldn't call it a "Great" game but EYE divine cybermancy doesn't have any hand holding. Kind of a tough game. Serious Sam HD I'd have to think about it.

Mount and Blade (Warband, it has multi if you wish). You start in a field with a horse and a sword and some random crap. Your total instructions are 0.

There are a lot of good multiplayer games that DGAF about little nooby kids. Are you looking for multiplayer or single player?

If you haven't played DayZ yet I say give that a try. Absolutely ZERO hand holding...not even a tutorial or ANYTHING to get you prepared (outside of online help ofcourse).

You literally spawn in the middle of no where with only choice supplies (I believe a bandage, painkillers, and flashlight) and are left on your own to hunt, scavenge, survive, eat, and everything else in life (other than sleep and shitting, that is only to come!).

It's truly about as adult a game can get in my eyes. Definitely not for the kiddies!

I passed on this many times but it looks cool.

Dark Souls.
Watching the reviews it looks nifty, Ill give this one a shot.

I dont care for DayZ myself, its full of tards. But ARMA2 is excellent and Domination servers are a blast.
You cant get any more mature/adult then ACE servers.
A great(and better) alternative to DayZ is ARMA2 wasteland...Thats the best gaming on PC IMHO.

I think Heavy Rain is pretty good. And well Journey and Flower can probably help people soulsearch lol.

Mount and Blade was a good suggestion. I absolutely love that game. The learning curve is a bit steep but once you get the hang of the action fighting is very satisfying.

Paradox grand strategy games. It doesn't expect you to be dumb. It expects you to be smart, lol.

day z and stalker. and Metro. play those and come back with your results
