Should I grab a PS3?

I'm a PC gamer but I've had a PS2 and PSX that I've enjoyed for years and for all the time I've played PC games, I've never had the fun I had with the consoles. I don't really know why but I really miss good Platformers and Japanese titles. I can never forget games like Ratchet and Clank, Metal Gear Solid, God of War, Shadow of the Colossus etc and I really miss those these days.

So, I was looking forward to getting the new PS3 this Christmas but I'm not really sure if it's really worth it.

If I do get it I will play only Platformers and Japanese games on it. You know, games that aren't available on PC. For other games I'll just use my PC.

Will that be a good move?

EDIT: Alright I think I've got my answer from another thread http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1718168 But more opinions are always welcome.

For me the PS3 was mediocre at best as a gaming system. There were only a couple of games worthwhile, but my track record is PC games.

I ventured out, got a 360 and ps3, and haven't really used either. I used the ps3 to play Blu-rays for a couple years, and it died earlier this year. So I'm done with consoles.

What about the games, are they any good? I'd watch some youtube playthroughs but they're just full of fake bribed reviews :p

There are lots of great exclusives that are worth it. Been playing the beta for playstation all stars it is awsome. The last of us is coming and lots of other great games. i own all platforms and all have great exclusives to play so if you have the means then do it
 
If you like racing games, i strongly suggest wipeout hd. ITs pretty fun, fast and furious.
 
There are very few exclusive games for the PS3 that are worth getting over a 360 or PC. God of War, Uncharted, Resistance, are a few decent series. Just about anything else worth playing is as good or better on the 360 or PC.

That's not true at all. Heavy Rain, 3D Dot Game Hero, Demon's Souls, Valkyria Chronicles, Fat Princess, LittleBigPlanet 1&2, Ratchet & Clank Futures trilogy, Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch (soon), Beyond: Two Souls, inFamous 1&2, Killzone 2&3, StarHawk.

Unless you have Kinect the only exclusives 360 really got this year is Halo 4 and Forza. For 2013 it's looking like another Gears of War and ????

Fair enough, that's your opinion, I don't care for most of those PS3 games. Killzone is ok, I have 2&3 admittedly.
 
If you have the money, why not? but for multiplayer I would for with Xbox 360 or PC.

The ONLY difference in multiplayer with PS3 vs. 360 is private cross game chat. So unless you really really need that feature (I think I've used it 3 times in 5 years) don't see why 360 is so much better.

I will say as far as little kid ratio using mics is much much higher on 360. I'm almost always muting on 360 where PS3, I won't say never but it's much rarer.
 
I don't like racing games or any kind of sports game. I like adventure, RPGs especially Japanese ones and some good platformers.

There are more than 5-7 games I wanna play on that platform. For example right now I'm playing dark souls on pc and I'd really like to play the prequel demon's souls as well which is a ps3 exclusive. Then there's god of war, metal gear solid, ratchet and clank, castlevania, red dead redemption and well countless others.

I'd rather not get a 360 because it's just another PC with more games to me.

I bought one last year before the holidays and LOVED uncharted, but i really haven't played much since then. so while i enjoy watching the occasional bluray every now and then it just collects dust. i don't really have any regrets about it, but if i could do it again i would probably spend the money on a bluray player and a fancy universal remote instead

Don't understand why people do this. There are some great games you're missing, Uncharted is just one series. Dust off that system and try them :D

I agree and there are more coming. BTW been playing PlayStation all stars it is really really fun. And hopefully we get the last of us soon it looks amazing.

Maybe because you enjoy the PS3 game lineup more than most people do. There are LOTS of PS3's collecting dust. I"m sure Sony is happy that yours isn't.

Have they done a new revised Wii vs PS3 commercial? Ya know, with the new slimmer PS3 girl and old "slow" Wii whore?
 
I came from the PC side of things, and I really enjoy the PS3. We use it alot. I'd considered an XBOX 360, but when I picked the PS3 up, there was a huge problem with the RRoD, and that was the deal breaker on the 360. I knew a number of guys at work who had sent their system in multiple times, and that was the biggest deal. Mine had a 40GB hard drive in it, but I upgraded to a 250GB one without a real hassle.

I wouldn't mind having a 360 for a few exclusives, mainly Gears of War, but Forza seems pretty cool.
 
I'm spamming too many of these threads lately. I'm a PC purist but 'm super happy with my PS3. if you wanta good platformer check out Outland it's free on Ps3 plus.
 
bought one, had it for 2 years, used it more as a media player than a game machine, sold it.
