I'm surprised no one has made a thread on this game. Anyways, this is by Devs from the very popular source mod Age of Chivalry - a medieval multiplayer slasher. This is their first commercial release and the game is coming out the 16th of October.

Launch Trailer:

I'm a big Mount & Blade fan with over 500 hours sunk into sp and mp, so I was very much looking forward to War of the Roses. While, WotR is not a bad game it's just wasn't what I was looking for. Then I remembered about Chivalry and I pre-purchased to get into the beta. All I can say is Wow this game is just a blast to play and has a very high skill ceiling (something I was slightly worried about having played AoC). If you are into medieval combat games I highly recommend checking this game out.

looks pretty cheesy/arcadish to me, guess I ll have to see more gameplay though or try it myself. I'm currently enjoying WotR immensely with one minor qualm over the squad spawn feature...

You think this is arcadish while WotR with huge damage numbers, killstreaks, UT tourn voice, floating names, teleporting tackle skill, squad spawning, etc is not?

Chivalry is not a realism game but it is neither an arcardy game.

and here's some small scale team play

Is this a strictly multiplayer game? Is there a campaign? That combat looks much more refined than current M&B, me likey.

I played Age of Chivalry and I did like the combat, I tried WOTR in beta, but I didn't like how the combat felt compared to Mount and Blade.

I'm interested in the game, though not sure if I should preorder or not.

This game reminds me a lot of PVK. I played PVK II before they gimped the pirate, that game was loads of fun and laughter.

Reminds me of Dark Messiah which I thoroughly enjoyed multiple times over.

Also the gameplay video in the OP was pretty funny...people were looking at me here in my office :p

Strictly multiplayer but there is a tutorial mission along with bots that are surprisingly good.

double post not sure how to delete.

Do you automatically get into the beta when pre-ordering from their site?

I believe you have to buy the 50 dollar version to get into the beta.

I just read on their forum that you can't get any instant beta access anymore, they ran out of keys. The only keys you can buy are the standard pre-order keys for $25.

Not that i would've spent double as much for instant beta access anyways, that's just highway robbery.

I did it as a donation for an indie dev, but then again I was really anxious to play this game lol.

I was a huge fan of Age of Chivalry. I was excited to see this game being developed as a super polished stand alone. As long as there is a community I can certainly see myself purchasing this very soon. What a hilarious game Age of Chivalry was. Accidentally lopping off a friendly's head was just too funny while on Ventrilo.

Played it quite a bit last night and gotta say it's really bad.

It feels like quake with swords really. WAY too fast, WAY too arcadish for medival sword fighting. Archers are entirely useless and the running/game/swing speed is ridiculous. Really, if you're looking for a arcade game with swords, then this is it, for everyone else, who's looking for sword fights with parries, with blocks, with functioning archers etc should look for WotR (imho TONS better) or, for single player, Warband.

I jumped on this last night and had a great time learning the game. Controls are intuitive. After 3 hours I felt very comfortable with the Vanguard. Some good gore moments. It's pretty tactical and like Left 4 Dead the winning team will almost always be using voice. Hope it catches on so that they can do some patches and shave some of those rough edges on the movement and hit detection.

Just seen the launch trailers yesterday. The game looked awesome, so I got all impulsive and bought it, played a few rounds, was really fun. I made an intro video to the game, if anyone hasn't played and plans to, when I played the Multiplayer didn't find servers because the game is so new. You can opt into the Beta on Steam or download a file (link and directions are in the details on my video).

Read the sticky in the forum of steam. Look like it's a bug if you don't see any servers.

Already read the sticky, that sticky just brings you to their forum, where you can download the files for the fix. Or go the Beta route, there is no mention of it being a bug. And having to Opt into a beta on Steam (not on client side) says to me that it's an issue with Steam, rather than a bug with the game.

Watched some twitch gameplay at work, looks pretty good and the 4 pack comes out around 18 a key, tempting.

I'm a big warband fan and glad I passed on war of roses, from what I've seen its like a medeivil COD with all of the perks and killstreaks and crap. This game doesn't seem to have any of that and no matter how much game of thrones I watch, I still can't seem to get my decapitation fix.

Thats a hard fix to fill. I giggle like a giddy schoolgirl in games whenever I decap something, always have, and probably always will.

Tried out war of the roses and didn't like it.

I'm thinking i'll like this game alot more, but I wish I could try it out before I buy. So many games I want to buy right now.

what's the community like? I'm pretty tempted to pick this up or maybe just wait for Natural Selection 2....I can't decide....

Only played a couple hours, but its hit and miss. I joined one server where it was free for all, but we dueled each other. We would walk up to someone, do a battle cry, then get one in return to signal the fight. It was such a blast fighting and watching. We even did some fist to fist fighting.

Joined another server with dumb idiots whining and cursing each other...but regardless Its still just so fun. Especially when you get a good team who uses some strategy like having shield guys in the lead to block arrows when rushing the other side.

yeah I'm enjoying the make shift duel (FFA) servers

there was some guy with T3 mace for the knight and he was just beasting everyone

I managed to beat him once with T2 halbred but he ended up with 0 deaths in a round pretty often

fist to fist fighting is also fun

the king of the hill mode is kind of funny though if the server is decently populated. it's basically get a halbred and start doing combos and hope you hit the other team instead of your team.

in terms of the other team objective game modes, I don't really care for them because teams tend to not be coordinated. I'll probably just be sticking to playing TDM, FFA, or duel servers.

thanks for the info, I heard the bot support is actually pretty good if you create a server. can either of you confirm this? I understand that there's a tutorial but I would rather have a better feel for the maps/gameplay before joining a live server

If you guys are looking for a good server join my clan server Vanquish - Saturday Knight Fever. We normally always have an admin on so we keep the server going smoothly. Seeya guys in game.

I haven't noticed any bots

I wouldn't worry about learning maps. if it's an objective base mode, there are markers to tell you where to go to or protect.

youtube video of combat system: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7cTvQklWvU

it's pretty fun constantly punishing people that LMB spam too much with a poke using a halbred or spear

other thing to note is that it feels like to me that ping is pretty important when trying to poke or overhead. not so sure about parrying yet because I feel like I still need to learn to better identify attack animation, attack direction, and properly reacting in the correct parry direction.

I just tried last night. You can create a game with bots if you want. They aren't the greatest but do pretty well suprisingly
