Darksiders 2!

They weren't talking out their ass. PR people can only say what they know. If they were told those features where going to be there that is what they were going to tell people.

Which does mean the developers were talking out their ass...just to the PR guys and not us directly. It is still gross false advertising, and I would not be surprised to see this taken up officially in countries that believe in that filthy communist idea of consumer rights. Gamers are right to be angry about it.

Compare this to the press leading up to Dark Souls, where From Software has been so candid about what to expect from the port to PC, knowing full-well such honesty will result in lost sales.

I'm willing to believe they had originally planned all of it at the time, but decided not to say anything to anyone when it changed.

Personally I still just blame THQ :p I would have been happier to see the game delayed if it they couldn't live up to their promises. It may have been what was originally planned, they may have genuinely ran out of time, but first and foremost you do what you say you're gonna do. I still blame THQ because it seems to be a common theme in the recent THQ games I've been interested in to fuck things around and blame lack of time/knowledge/deadlines/whatever all the while pumping out overpriced DLC for their games that they should be fixing before worrying about the DLC.

Considering how sparse the first one was (options-wise), and how similar this one seems in terms of the engine, I tend to think this was wishful thinking back when they delayed the game from Spring until August.

Exactly. It's not like this really glowing precedent was established. The first game really was a "plop this thing on the ground and walk away from it" quickie port. Fun game for what it was.

Part two is basically everything part one should have been. If people hated part one, though, there's nothing here for them regardless of how many PC features may or may not be included.

Part 1 still has a few game breaking glitches in it. I got burned by one of them. It never got a breath of support.

So far, so good in this one as far as game breakers for me.

Darksiders PC owners,

Your feedback is incredibly important to us, so we have been working around the clock to address issues that some of you have been having, as well as adding features you have requested. The team is prioritizing finding solutions to these issues.

We are working on fixes for a number of bugs which can potentially block progression that have come to our attention, while also exploring adding additional features you have been asking for. This work includes vsync updates, improved shadow map resolution, X-axis options and additional keyboard mapping options (amongst other community requests). We hope to roll out a number of patches to address these issues in the weeks to come.

Keep your eyes peeled on Darksiders.com for updates on patch timing and content.

Nice. The shadows and vsync are my only major gripes left. The stutter thing seems to just be the engine they're using and luckily Afterburner seems to get around that for most people.
A config and some additional other things would be nice, but we at least needed shadows that look as good as the first game and a functional vsync.

I really enjoyed this game. Beat it on apoc on my Game+ for the second time. Love the art work and story. The ending is meh at best but if you played Darksidres 1, you will know why :)

Just this alone is far more support than part 1 ever saw.

The vsync option definitely works now.
I'm still cruising away in the game. I've finished all of Act 2 except the Arbitor's Maze, and I'm starting on that as soon as my controller charges back up.

Not sure if it was intended to work like this, but Achidna's Fangs seem to be borderline godlike. They're not the strongest weapons in the game, but hitting enemies heals you with them equipped. They hit so fast that in pretty much any fight on "normal" you can just get close and hammer the Y button. I find myself barely using the scythe now. At first I figured they were only good for a little while, but they've carried me for about 8 hours of gameplay now.

It also sounds like part 1 came with less bugs to start with though :p Part 1 had a couple of game killing bugs that you could unfortunately trigger if you did things in a certain order the game would break itself, but for the most part it was pretty smooth and solid. Don't recall ever having nor hearing about graphical issues with it.

They are ridiculously good, I ended up using them throughout the entire game. I'd try out different possessed weapons that I would max out, but always went back to Achidnas. The healing amount is so ridiculous that the lower damage doesn't matter.

Man...the Arbitor's maze is torture. It isn't all that hard, but it takes FOREVER. As usual, the Echidna's Fangs pretty much take care of you. However there are 10 full floors and to get the goodies (honestly, NOT worth it except floor 5) you have to complete each section between 3 and 5 times. That assumes you've either found all of the clues or looked up the path and never mess any up, too.
I finally got to the last floor last night and finally just had to put it down since I was so sick of it.
Hopefully I get something decent for all of this!

Sounds similar to Grunty Industries. That level was a whole game within a game.

The maze is pretty much just like a bigger more annoying version of the Crucible. You keep fighting in the same 1-room battle against the same hordes of enemies over and over and over. The difficulty is inconsistent, and it's generally just not fun past the 2nd or 3rd floor.
I tried to complete the last floor (all bosses) and the damned game crashed on me in my 4th of 5th room. First crash I've gotten since Day 2...and of course it happens in an area I've learned to hate.

I uninstalled this abortion of a game. Just a horrible game play experience.

^ Wow...tell us how you really feel :p

What was your issue with the game? Was it the gameplay or were you having technical problems?

Completed the game this weekend. Not sure about their claims, but I found all but 2 books and about 1/3 of the stones and I don't think it was much longer than the first. At the same time, the formula was getting tired by the end, so I don't think that's a bad thing. Luckily there's a shooter sequence in chapter 3 that breaks up a little of the monotony.

No spoilers...but seriously, the end game sequence is a total joke. After all the crap you have to go through, the final boss might possibly be one of the easiest battles in the whole game. No gimmicks or anything like that either.

Decent game, and fans of the first should enjoy it...but the pacing is a definite weakpoint. If it goes on sale this holiday season, I'd recommend it.

I hate to admit that spent 40 bucks on this. I've forced myself to play but it's just a crappy port with obnoxious gameplay. I will never buy a game from these devs again.

- More support for different resolutions with HUD elements.

This is pretty much how it should've shipped. No complaints and I suppose this is further proof that buying a PC game on launch day (even with the "free" DLC) is usually a mistake.
The shadows now look like they did in the first game, and the AA cleans up a lot of the weird edges on things. Performance supposedly doesn't suffer with either setting, even with so-so hardware, which is also nice.

Wow. With the eye candy maxed out...between that and Skyrim's FXAA Injector, NOW this thing looks like something a bit past a console game IMO at least.

This game has been sitting in my Steam Games folder since release day and I think i've played it for 5 hours. I'm giving it one more chance this weekend until I hit the uninstall button.

I'm curious about the what part of the game aren't people enjoying.
I see posts about people hating it - is it just the action nature of the game, technical problems, or what? Did you play the first one at all?
It's essentially God of War crossed with a bit of Zelda and a bit Amalur, just like the first one.

Definitely a better game at what it does than Amalur IMO.

If this game had launched in the condition it's in now it'd be a different story. Anyone that likes God of War type games should eat this thing up.

I honestly really liked Amalur. If anything, I think Darksiders 2 probably could’ve learned a little from the overworld of Amalur. Beyond the repetitiveness of the dungeons, my major gripe with Darksiders 2 was just how pointless the overworld was. They needed something to break it up like Amalur had. I don’t necessarily want towns or anything like that, but some additional overworld quests were sorely needed. As it stood, it was just 5 minutes of horse riding between dungeons.

There’s still one thing I never did figure out, though. There are weird invisible/outline creatures in a few areas, including the first overworld area. I’ve been through every quest, talked to every person, and found almost everything short of a couple books and some rocks…but nobody ever mentioned or gave me anything to find those creatures with. Unless you have to finish the Crucible or find all of the items, I’m lost on what to do with those things.

Ok, that's true. I have to agree with that point.

Agreed.

I'm not trying to bash Amalur. I thought it was a very competent game across the boards but it was utterly unremarkable and forgettable.

Seen those too. I have no clue, either.

After spending more hours with this game I just could no longer push myself to keep playing. It feels like a chore especially the puzzles. Somebody here mentioned here that this game borrows from God of War, I agree but the difference is that in the God of War series the puzzles had purpose and it was satisfying to solve the puzzles. In this game I find myself moaning and at the thought of moving another dam glowing ball so it fits in some random floor switch which opens the gate. Its just lazy level design.

The combat is fast and at times fun but the controls really hinder it. The world is large and pretty to look at but I found it devoid of any real personality. It felt generic. The random loot is ok but tons of useless crap drops that ends up at the vendor.

I can not in good faith recommend this game for its full asking price. Wait for a steam sale and get it for no more than 15 dollars at the most.

Pros:

  • Fast Paced Combat
  • Large World to See
  • Random Weapons and Armor

Cons:

  • Terrible Controls
  • Clunky UI
  • There is no sense of "Purpose"
  • Game play can feel like a Chore
  • Repetitive Puzzles
  • Repetitive AI
  • Poor Graphical Options when game shipped

GOW has much better production values and much, much better level design.

So Argul's Tomb is out now but I don't have access to it. I bought the game from THQ.com and the season's pass which are already in my Steam library. What else do I need to do to get my DLC?

Oh there is another DLC called "Death Rides" out for it too but Amazon says it's not part of the Season's Pass. It is $7.

Oh and before I go through hoops to get the DLC... Did they do anything for the game to improve the visuals lately? Don't want to be disappointed again.

The graphics aren't worlds better, but there's an AA slider and the shadows are much better looking now.
Everything else is more or less the same.

I find it weird that people are giving Dark Souls a free pass in this area, but Darksiders 2 got ripped apart for graphics.

Well, From Software told everyone not to expect anything in regards to Dark Souls, while the Darksiders 2 devs promised the port would be better than the first one, and it ended up being kinda worse.

When you play with expectations like that people tend to get a little upset.

Oh yeah it's perfectly fine now, too bad they couldn't release it in the current state as it would have gone over a lot better with the PC crowd.
