Silverstone st45sf

I'm looking for one to buy, i hope online retailers will mark them as v2.0, so i know what i'll get...

And i hope Silverstone will make in the future a modular version of this PSU, with a quieter fan.

definitly want modular in sfx , that would make things so much easier

BTW, the 560ti is incredible as it allows me to run at 0.95v and still OC to 915Mhz. What a great card!

You know what? That's not unusual. I know it is "conventional wisdom" to overvolt to overclock, but there have been some graphics cards that have actually overclocked well with undervolting instead of overvolting.

I ordered the SG05BB-450 last week, and Alternate in Germany suddenly marked my order as 'delayed'. I wonder if it's to do with this but they don't react very quickly to my email.

Edit: no, I received the V1.1 not the V2.0

Wow, just ordered one and received.....v1.1

I would have thought the channel would have been cleared of the v1.1 by now.

If you contact Silverstone they will replace it with the newer version. My guess is they are still trying to sell off their old stock. I don't think they sell huge amounts of the 450w but I could be wrong.

Anyone tried to swap the fan in this unit? Or if it can be swapped with a normal, 80x25mm fan? The original fan is 80x12mm...Is there more room for a normal fan 25mm fan?

later edit: nvm, it doesn't fit.

1) no room for 25mm thick fan

2) swapping fan voids warranty

No need for warranty, as i plan to shorten the cables anyway...:)

I should check if there is enough space in my case, to mount a 25mm thick fan on the outside of the PSU (half inside, half outside, total psu hight will be ~750 mm, from 600mm). Some SFX PSUs are like this, and know i know why. :D

I've read that the default one is not that quiet. Either because of poor fan quality, or because of high RPM...I plan a 3 fan mini itx gaming system and i want it as quiet as it can be.

The stock fan is not silent for the SPCR crowd, but it certainly is not noisy. It may ramp up in speed more when you are drawing close to the max, but most PSUs will do that.

Just FYI, the psu in my brother's SG05BB was faulty so I sent it back for RMA and got the new one back today and it was v2.0

Test it then with full load using Prime95 and Furmark, and if it does 'chirp' you should RMA. My v1.1 didn't chirp so I just kept it.

I just took a chance and ordered this PSU from Newegg. Hopefully it will arrive as V2.0 or else it is going back.

EDIT: It just arrived. It is V2.0 :)

Is the "chirp" a high pitched noise or more of a clicking noise?

Edit: This question has nothing to do with my sig rig. A friend of mine is running a similar setup and is experiencing clicking noises when their 680 is under load :)

More of a click than a chirp. I am getting my first PSU returned from SIlverstone on Tuesday under warranty for this issue. I purchased a V2.0 open box return so I could keep things up and running while one is being repaired and the V2.0 has no clicking or chirping whatsoever.

Thank you flopticalcube. I'm going to let them use mine and use something bigger externally for my system until they get a their v2.0 replacement :)

Edit: I should have read all of the thread again. You clearly state it being more of a click on page 4 :p

Just want to ask to make things more clear for me.

Silverstone st45sf can power this system with no problems?

i7 2600K
GTX 580
1 Vertex 3 Max Iops 120Gb
1 Western Digital Velociraptor 600Gb

Haven't decided on which mini-itx board yet but want to build a mini-itx system with Silverstone FT03-Mini chassi. :D

Running everything stock it can run it no problem. It can run it with cpu OCed too. Not sure if it will with CPU *and* GPU overclocked. Guessing it can.

GTX 580 is quite thirsty compared to the new cards. so if u havent bought it yet u should consider a 680 or 670. the 670 uses 80w less and had 18% better preformance.

Hi,
I'm from Italy and I recently bought a SG06BB-450 case but i'm having problems with it.
The PCIe video card does not boot (but its fans work): the system automatically boots the integrated graphics even if i manually set in the bios the option PCIe for the video output.
There is no way to make the system detect the PCIe card, it feels like no external VGA is installed. Neither in programs like Everest the card is detected.

My build is:

MB ASUS P8H77-I
CPU Intel Core i5-3550 Ivy Bridge
RAM Corsair Vengeance 2x4Gb
VGA MSI R7850 TwinFrozr 2GD5/OC
SSD Crucial M4 64Gb
WD Caviar Green 500Gb
I have no cd/dvd drive

The VGA manual says "500W PSU required"...but I thought the Silverstone SST-45SF could have been enough.

Do you think this is because of the "weak" PSU? I think it is version 2.0...

Help me please and SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH

no, it is probably not due to the "weak" graphics card -- during boot, the card is running in 2D mode and uses very little power.

It sounds like either the video card is bad, is not seated properly, the connection with the monitor is not correct, there is a BIOS setting that is incorrect, or you have a Driver issue (do you have the latest drivers installed?).

yes, I have the latest drivers.. but I think that it's not due to the drivers.

when I started the PC for the first time, I connected the monitor with the PCIe video card and it worked! I even installed Windows and some programs but after some reboots and BEFORE installing the VGA drivers, the screen started flashing and then a black screen showed up (but I think Windows was still working). I tried to reboot but..black screen (neither the first splash screen of the bios shows up) even if I can hear the Windows startup sound. So I had to connect the screen cable directly to the motherboard (Integrated graphics).

I also tried to install the same graphics card on another PC (unfortunately I only have a 400w PSU on it, motherboard is ASUS A8N-sli) but i obtained the same black screen (and 1 long-2 short beeps from the internal speaker).

I managed to upgrade my V1 to a V2 by replacing C83 with a 220nf cap and paralleling another 0.47nf cap on top of C82 (making approx. 1nf). I have lots of caps left over so let me know if you want a set and I'll snail mail them to you (North America only please). You need an eye loupe, tweezers, a soldering iron and, optionally, a hot air rework station. Steady hands help too.
