I hear about the Microsoft flight sim but I don't know what else is out there.

Any recomended flight sims?

If you're talking about civilian flight sims like FSX, the only other one out there is X-Plane 10. It's good but has it's own share of issues.

If you want combat flight sims, the best ones are the DCS series by Eagle Dynamics. They have the A-10C Warthog and KA-50 Black Shark sims, as well as Flaming Cliffs 2 which is a more basic level sim of a few different jets.

FSX is the good Microsoft sim, not Flight imo...

Others that are good:
DCS A-10C
Rise of Flight
X Plane 10
Aerofly FS

IL-2 Sturmovik... but whatever you do, dont buy the Cliffs of Dover edition.

You just barely missed the 66% off ($13.59, reg 39.99) sale on DCS A-10. The sim itself is fantastically well done and there's quite a few active multiplayer flight groups available once you've taken care of the basics.

COD was released a year ago but was in a very unfinished and buggy state. The developers keep saying "We are rewriting the engine/game to fix it." A year later they keep saying "We have found bugs and are delaying the patch."

So, the game did come out (yet worthless) and the mega patch that is going to fix all of it has been pretty much vaporware since.

Whatever happened to IL2:COD? They ever finish that game or is it vaporware?

It's been out for about a year, but it is fully fucked up. You can see where the game was supposed to go, but it did not get there. It looks great, but that’s about it.

No dynamic campaign, bad flight models, bad sound issues, glitches galore.

Supposedly Maddox has been working on a rewrite of much of the code, but it is likely going to be pushed out with an add on.

That being said they have had several patches that fixed some stuff and there are a lot of player fixes.

I have it, but it's been shelved for a couple of months.

Isn't there also a helo sim from Bohemia, Take Off Helicopters or some such? Looked good but there never really was much buzz about it.

I am playing with MS flight Simulator X and I do enjoy it. Trying to learn how to fly the Boeing 747-400 is interesting to say the least... My first experience with a flight simulator was Ti Flight...

I have an ancient Saitek x52 controller setup I used to use for space sims. Wonder if that works with Win7. Its around 10 years old I think.

It should work perfectly. I use a x52 pro setup and it works great across the board.

Rise of Flight is a very well done WW1 combat flight sim. Both multi and single player, they keep adding features and expanding the game. Great flight models and pretty good damage models. If you can get into WW1 it is a great combat flight sim.

Just got in FSX gold edition and lovin it!

Are there any patches to make it have better gfx?
