I've been waiting a long time for a new PC build. The last few months has felt like years alone waiting for Ivy Bridge and more importantly this Asus board. So with newegg selling the Asus it was time to score all the parts. At the bottom of this post are video reviews and tests:

1. The Parts - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtM4Vlynk2k
More recently upgraded to an H80

2. The Build - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYIAT-yShLE
3. Missing Drivers - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3iGODN3ZdI
4. The BIOS and Warm Boot Time - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_Qkj70gZto
5. Cold Boot - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqacQKpPmDU
6. Full Suite of Overclocking Tests - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVq4oYMUfnI

This will mainly be an HTPC and some Diablo III action along with an attempt at a hackintosh. I'll be sure to do a full review and write up on the build.

Good times ahead.

I just picked up the Asus to do a comparison with the Asrock. Looking forward to your review!

PS The OSx86 team is already working on kexts for this board :)

No $hit? That is so awesome to hear! Thanks man. Do you have a thread I can watch?

Better go with H80! I have SUGO SG08 and both H60 and H80. H80 is superior to me. You can install it with just one pull fan. And better get some descent high CFM fan like Scythe 110 CFM...

Appreciate the opinion encode but I'm going to go with what I have for now and see how it goes. I could have gone with a bigger card, bigger CPU, faster RAM, bigger cooler etc. etc.. but I'm on a budget and don't care to OC too much.

Everything shipped today. Hope to start the build mid-week next week!

Good luck with this. I want to do effectively the same build, but with double the memory and without the video card. I'm not into aggressively OC'ing either, I just want a well performing SFF system.

*watches thread intently*

Hi Pugsly!

This board only supports max 16GB, 2x8GB DIMMs as far as I know.

For some reason (late at night is my excuse) I read your memory at 8GB total. In that case, same memory, one less video card as you :)

Can't wait to see all those goodies crammed into that case! :)

I'm planning a build similar to this, but with a 3770k and a GTX 690. Gonna have to make modifications to the case though to let heat from the graphics card exhaust out the front... I just wonder if that 600w psu is up to snuff to handle so much awesome...

Anyway I'll keep an eye on your build and see how it goes. :D

UPS came today. I received one big box and one small one. I couldn't believe that the small one was the ASUS board:

TigerDirect is taking a long time to deliver the i5-3570k CPU but for 210 shipped I can't complain. Might be here tomorrow, Monday at the latest.

That nickel all you had left after buying all this awesomeness? :p

Opened up the 448 Core and it's missing the HDMI to mini-HDMI cable which simply means I can't use it. Ugh.

Newegg was cool about it, RMAd it and got the 570 HD which has standard HDMI anyway. They covered next day shipping.

Greeting!

I am doing a similar build also. My mb also arrived and waiting for the CPU on monday.

I am planning to OC (if possible to 4.0 to 4.5). Seem like it is possible to use the stock AP180 with a H70/H80 rad to do a pull/push. Meanwhile i am going to stick with the stock fan with OC while waiting for your performance review on the H60 :p

Got the CPU today!

Still without my GPU but I can put that in Monday or Tuesday. Gonna start the build this afternoon. What a perfect Saturday!

Cool....I'm still waiting for the bitfenix prodigy to be released. If I wouldn't have bought an H100 or NHD14, the SG08 would already be my case.

Just wanted to share my install experience with you all. I used an Antec Kuhler 620, and had to shave some of the backplate to clear some of the surface mount electronics on the bottom side of the motherboard. Other then that, install went smooth. Fits nice in the SG07. Check it out:

The build is complete.

I'm in the process of making a video. What do people want to see? What kind of tests should I run? Keep in mind this is only testing the MB, CPU and overclocking ability, no GPU.

Cold boot takes ~25 seconds, 10 of which are before the monitor even turns on. Mind you, rebooting/powering down can be completely avoided by using Intel Rapid Start. It's like S3, but writes everything to a 2-8GB partition on an SSD instead of the memory. This means the computer can be unplugged indefinitely and wake from sleep whenever you want.

I wish this motherboard would come out in Australia already. Australia sucks ass.

Good point MissJ. Added tests:

Part 5. Cold Boot

You using MBR or GPT? I ask because I'm running GPT with DVI on my Dell, and cold boot starts take around 23-24 seconds. I'm probably going to wind up keeping the Asus, but I can't stand that 10 seconds of dead time before post. Btw, if you disable full screen logo, it'll probably shave off a little time. Thanks for posting :)

I didn't know I could choose. I still thought windows was always installed on MBR. I'll see about disabling logos and such to bring down cold boot times. Thanks for the tips.

Very cool! Similar to what I am working on now except for some hardware changes (i5 2500k, Asrock z77e-ITX, GTX 580, etc, etc...) so this is cool to see it going so well!

This motherboard doesn't even come out in Australia untill next month. What the fuck. Who wants to send me one over?

I could have sworn this appeared in NZ first, then the UK, then about 3 week later it hit The States. Are guys farther behind NZ in getting new tech?
