I finally figured out why I prefer CoD over BF.

I was finally able to pin down the exact reason I prefer CoD:MW3(BO) over BF(3) for "competitive" matches this weekend.

First of all, the one weekend I had the time and was really in the mood to give BF3 a good spin, I ended up frying one of my 6850's...I know boo-hoo. Anyhow, I really did enjoy my time playing the game...the graphics/atmosphere/ambience of this game are STELLAR. I will be the first to admit that it is more "engrossing" than say, a game like MW3 or Black Ops.

However, as much as I actually enjoyed the actual matches I played, I couldn't help but notice that when bringing down an enemy it just lacked a certain feeling of...satisfaction? I pinned it down to one little simple thing. I'm not sure what the technical term for it is, but when I'm shooting at, and actually hitting someone in the CoD series it makes this "fip, fip, fip" sound when you're hitting your enemy. I guess it's similar to the old QIII "chirp". It just adds that much more to the actual feeling of the game. Is this just me?

I am definitely going to be playing more BF3 as soon as I can order another 6850, but for now I guess I'll be stuck with Black Ops and MW3...they both run 90+ fps with just one 6850...BF3 is a freakin' slide show with eye-candy on and quite frankly the graphics are one of the reasons I actually enjoyed playing the game.

Just throwin' this out there.

What im curious the most about is how your fryed your card with BF3?.....
wtf did you do?

Ok, look at this point I'm pretty sure erf is bobby kotick. Erf someday you will post something that isn't a gushing homo letter to cod and I will find a way to reward you.

but hey since were on the subject. If you want "competition" or "satisfaction" from a kill then go play a counter-strike match. There's no respawns, no make ups, no high score. When you're dead you're dead. What you accomplished in the 10-180sec you were alive determines whether you are worth a fuck to anyone.

Now completely off topic. Everyone go see "The Raid: Redemption" This is the closest we will ever come to a true counter-strike movie in our lifetime and frankly any genre movie I've seen in a long fucking time.

Enthusiast website- 90% of the people overclock there hardware and somehow expect no problems to occur. The other 10% experience no problems.

i was thinking about the same thing few days ago!, but still i prefer bf3 over all cods!

BF3>COD.

For the simple reason that you don't hear 12yo kids screaming in your ears.

BC2 also had its own fip fip that BF3 doesn’t have, maybe thats why BF3 guns feel like BC2 engineer guns in some way (BC2 engi guns make less fip fip than assault or medic guns). it would’ve been less annoying if the BF3 had better hit registration imo.
but this fip fip thing doesn’t make COD>BF3

My attention span deficiency will not allow me to play CS...trust me, I've tried. I can't play S&D or hardcore gametypes for the same reason. As soon as I die, I need to be right back in it or I destroy mice.

I run my hardware with the intention of it failing. 6850's are relatively cheap, thankfully. I'm not blaming BF3, but I'm sure it didn
't hurt the cause. The card that failed was always a weak link honestly.

Really? I never played it long enough to notice...as soon as I realized I couldn't strafe/sprint at the same time I lost interest.

Wow, I have to see that movie!

You can't beat BF3 when you have a good team that works together... you look at the clock and realize you've been playing for 4-5 hours.

I can definitely see this being the case...I just wish they'd add hitmarkers.

Saw it last night with a friend of mine. Thinking about seeing it again. We went to a late show so we were the only people there. As all of it was happening we had to comment on the strats. The first half literally felt like a counter-strike match. Reminded me of an cs map that escapes me, not cs_office, but one a pretty large multi-story office building. Anyway while the movie is 100% action the plot is pretty complex. Were surprised at how they could keep so many subplots going with someone getting their brains blown out or kicked through a window every 5 seconds. I gotta warn you 1. This movie is gory as hell. Expect to cringe a lot. 2. It's exhausting. I've never seen this much fighting in a movie this length ever and it's not repetitive every single move let alone fight is drastically different so you don't get a breath and you aren't getting a bathroom break. I kept thinking it would slow down but it doesn't ever.

that's kinda sad no offense. I jump in a COD server occasionally. No one uses tactics or does any interesting, ever. Its just like watching lemmings run off a cliff. No matter what map it never takes me long to find a choke point or map fail that allows me to go 20^ and then I get bored and quit.

With BF3 at least I can watch the ticket count and battle tactics with the other team to maintain capture points. There's a lot of change up that happens through the course of a map.

with COD you just walk into a small map thats at most 100 yards square and shoot at the team until one team randomly wins. Deathmatch games just feel like filing paperwork to me.

Can't argue that I also love hit beeps. Probably because I am a big Q3/Qlive player. However, I like BF3 way more than any COD game.

most of the bf3 maps in the original game are crap. ALL of the COD maps are crap.
cod maps looks like an idiot said I know lets do this and then go shop for drapes.

bf3 just has better maps in the karkland pack.

Funny nothing these devs do now a days is worth a S#$%
I guess they get 5 minutes to get it done to save the co money and/or they have the IQ of a gold fish.
OH WAIT I BET ITS AMERICAN PUBLIC SCHOOLS

I want COD4 NEW AND IMPROVED graphics to come out.
THAT WAS THE BEST

BC3....hope it comes out BC2 was better than both of these money sinks

That's an odd reason to prefer a game, erf.

It might be, but there are little things I like to think of as a sort of 'tactile feedback' for a game.

Example for me - as much as I dislike WoW (used to play it), few MMOs have the same 'solid feel' with the ground. It feels like my character's feet are on the ground and moving the character, rather than my character sliding around while looping a running animation.

These little things can add up (for some people) to make or break a game. I have the same feeling about BF3 - overall, I know I should love the game, but when I actually play it, it feels unrealistic and hollow.

I too prefer BF3 over COD but this claim that CoD is full of screaming 12 years is simply not true and hugely exagerated on here. I run into idiots in all my games (I play HoN for crying out loud) but it is never the way some of you make it out to be.

This is just another baseless excuse to say CoD sucks when it is actually a good game in its own right... if you actually took the time to play it and just not make false acusations about it....

There are only a few things I don't like about the cod series.
Jumping and shooting at the same time
And going prone while continuing to shoot
The accuracy of the small sub machine guns from across the map while spraying.

You shouldn't be able to jump and shoot
Going Prone should cause a delay in your shooting

Its not a claim , its actually sadly accurate. However mostly on console versions , people rarely use mic's on the PC version of COD games unless they are playing competitively , example of annoying as fuck 12 year olds in COD :

Kid actually argues with a recording of himself in COD:MW3 ... pretty sure I've never encountered that in BF.

I enjoy all of the CoD games (4 and up -WaW). The only time BF wins is when I get with a bunch of buddies who are actually working towards the objectives, if that's not happening then CoD all the way. Just my 2 cents.

As funny as that was there are morons like that in all games and all walks of life for that matter. It is still a generalization made by fanboys as an excuse to hate the game, some youtube videos hardly means it is an epidemic.

I have run accross people like that in BF3 on both PS3 and PC. Good thing I play on decent servers on PC and they get the boot pretty quickly.

But that's when I sip my beer. It's perfect!

Im too busy racking up awesome kills to notice hit sounds.

However, as much as I actually enjoyed the actual matches I played, I couldn't help but notice that when bringing down an enemy it just lacked a certain feeling of...satisfaction?

This is a problem with all the Battlefield games. Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2 also didn't give you satisfaction when killing an enemy. It's almost as if what you're shooting at is weightless.

Theres a setting in the menu that has to do with network smoothing factor or something. Lower it to around halfway or a bit under halfway. That will fix your hit registration for the most part and the dying around corners.

I actually enjoy BF3 in spite of this missing "feeling"...it's ok to play both...I hope?:D

...and yes, I know that the CoD games are based on an altered Quake engine. That might also be part of the reason I enjoy it so much. I loved QIII Arena.
