External drive not working - can USB drive read multi-partition drives?

I have an external drive enclosure that I just bought and I can't seem to get it to detect on any machine. I did originally have just one partition on the drive but then re-partitioned it with 3 different ones. Will this work over a USB 2.0 connection? I can't remember if partitioned drives are detected over USB.

Yes it will work fine.

The partition structure of the drive shouldn't have anything to do with the interface, they're a couple of layers apart. The enclosure could just be faulty, or it's power supply, or the USB cable.

Thanks. I tried 2 USB cables so I don't think it is that and I know the drive works in other machine.. Frustrating.
