Tax return is coming and I am thinking it is time to upgrade from my Samsung s23a550h to something bigger and better. I would prefer something with built in speakers and 27" or 30". Are the Apple displays really as good as everyone says? I will be running it with crossfire unlocked 6950s. I should not have issues maxing out games at any single monitor resolution, right?

You need to be more specific on what you want. Are you only gaming 24/7 or do you watch movies, do a lot of text work, photography, etc? Best under $1000 is very vague depending what you actually want to use it for.

Sorry. I really do a bit of everything. I do not need 120hz or 3d. I would say 40% gaming, 30% surfing, 20% movies/tv, and 10% photo/video work.

By the time you get that return the new Samsung 27" PLS monitor should be out. I'd hold out for it.

2 Options: Apple Cinema Display (glossy) or Samsung S27A850D (semi-glossy) or the up coming Samsung 9 series.

The ACD has lower input lag and will show reflections while the Samsung 850D has minor lag which I think will be noticeable coming from an S23A550, but it has multiple inputs.

Oh. I had not heard anything about the new Samsung. Is there any solid information yet? Pictures?

Anyone know if that $1199 price is realistic for the new Samsung 9 series? That sure seems high... Great looking monitor otherwise.

I think the price is a bit high for a 27, but really you won't know until they come out and they are reviewed and in users hands. Maybe they are the perfect LCD, but I highly doubt it.

Looks like there is no Vesa mount which is a deal breaker for me.

It probably will cost a lot, the 850, cost about $850... I wonder if the image quality is better than a ACD?

I'd wait for the Samsung S27A970.

S27A850D is flimsy and poorly built (yes, I own one) with potential quality issues, the ACD 27" is nice, but over priced and has relatively slow pixel response to go along with reflections.

Between these two if forced, I'd go for the Samsung from a e/re-tailer with a lenient return/satisfaction policy.

You're not going to find any with built-in speakers but many have audio output/headphone jack to computer speakers/headphones.

I agree, wait for the Samsung S27A970 as others have said. It will be worth the wait! I might get one too if I have enough cash then.
