Anyone else thinks Skyrim is boring?

I really didnt feel like playing anymore before the tutorial ended. I hate being force dragged into learning how toplay a game. The first whole story scene takes like an hour. oblivion and Fallout 3 does the same shit. In morrowind theyre like "welcome to the island fuckface. Now get out!" Oh need a weapon? Go find a butter knife. Now fuck off.

Im amazed everytime someone bitches because morrowind doesnt hold your hand through the whole thing. God, its like were in "generation p" for pussies.

The intro really isn't all that long. Once you get out of Helgen you can go do what the fuck you want.

I've tried the 2nd one and it didn't do much for me. Haven't tried any big texture packs yet as they all seemed pretty WIP-ish, maybe I'll give this 2K textures a shot.

I think it's the best one and furthest along myself.

Exactly.

I wish we could get that Bethesda/Obsidian combo every single time.

Unfortunately we're probably not going to see that anymore; Bethesda doesn't want to work with Obsidian anymore after they sort of 1-upped them at their "own" franchise.

Anyway, people saying Skyrim is what you make of it, I think that's a cop out.

It's a cop out to some extent, but a sandbox game is supposed to be "it is what you make of it." Unfortunately a lot of games don't even let you make what you want of it. I agree that game should give some incentive reward for trying things out. I'd say Skyrim does it better than Oblivion, but still doesn't do a great job with that. Combat can just be extremely repetitive unless you try to change things around yourself. Oh how I wish they would mix in some Dark Messiah mechanics, or even better, some Mount & Blade. Throw in the sexy gameplay of Batman on top and we'd have a totally different game.

New Vegas, you really could make what you want of something, though sometimes you might night like what you made. You could kill everyone which makes a really boring game. You could beat the game killing no one, not sure how that looks but I'd probably get bored. And then New Vegas has a lot of plots and sub plots, heavy on choice and consequences which was very nice. Skyrim lacked in the choices in consequences, so I had to exercise my imaginative powers of "it is what you make of it". At least I can do it which is good, but it sucks that the game doesn't do too much to reinforce that.

I love the way the dungeons all have this unique, hand crafted feel (something that Oblivion didn't have). However, it seems Skyrim took a serious step backwards when it came to quests. The quests are few in number, and what few exist are very boring. Oblivion may have had its flaws, but it had some awesome quests. I mean, each city in Oblivion had about 4-6 major quests, and tons of other little things going on. It seems each city in skyrim only has 1-2 major quests, and they have been really lackluster so far.

Make sure you're using Skyboost. Everyone should use it: http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6058

Use these, too:

www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=141
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3288
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3385

After these, simply pick up any dedicated textures for items and things in the game that appeal to you. I've got a bunch of them. It all adds up. Overall, these things combined will give everyone a much better looking game.

Sure about this? Fortunately Todd Howard isn't Bethseda, but yeah he doesn't seem to want them furthering his work.

I agree and I don't confine that sentiment to gaming by a longshot.

BTW, you doing alright? I feel like I've been seeing a lot of anger out of you lately. Take it easy. :)

I'm procrastinating but I'm eyeing that Morrowind 2.0 overhaul. LOL, I'm gonna laugh if I reinstall that damned game yet again.

I'm just frustrated because 2011 was just not a good year for gaming at least not for me. I honestly can't think of a AAA title other than portal 2 that stimulated me intellectually or challenged me n any way.

I was so psyched for Dead Island. I would have taken a subpar Resident Evil clone on an island and they couldn't even deliver that. Battlefield 3 reminds me of WoW in that while it stands as the most refined MMFPS to date it lacks the soul of a game made of love and no money. I tried to accept MW3 for what the series is Military Deathmatch nonsense. After playing for 30min a stood something like 30-10 with the default equips and could for the life of me figure why people keep buying these games when I could get a better challenge out of a random CS pub.

Skyrim I just. I don't know. Morrowind felt like it was made by a team whos every waking thought was D&D nostalgia and how import the fantasy and immersion were. I felt like a was in a scary land made up of 2 parts dragon lance and 1 part john carter of mars. Skyrim feels like they needed so many audiences that they developed themselves into a box. Morrowind is Time of the twins and Skyrim is whatever the Generic Forgotten Realms trilogy is on shelves this year.

All that said, amazing year for indie games. I'm spending more time playing OMD Machinarium and game like that more than anything else.

Sorry for going so off topic but thats why I'm mad. I wish games would stop making so much money that people who have no right to be involved in gaming would stop being so interested. I don't mean the players I mean investors.

I gotta say, after playing Skyrim, player movement in Fallout: New Vegas is painfully slow. :(

One of the first mod I used for new vegas was the one for running speed. Makes getting to the next rock feel much less laborious, and means that you can actually get to places and explore without breaking the W key as they go 2mph.

Yeah dunno just what I heard. After NV's success, you'd think they would want to continue working together (a collaboration project would be amazing), but Todd Howard hates anyone that compromises his ~vision~, while Obsidian is the sort of company that accepts input and feedback from every employee.

All of my friends think I'm retarded because I think Skyrim is "meh"

Glad I'm not the only one.

I loved skyrim, but I can see why some people would think it's boring. You really have no direction whatsoever, and honestly, there's just too much going on. The main storyline just wasn't very compelling at all. I felt like the whole civil war story was much more interesting. When I finished that, it felt like the end of the game, not when I finished off alduin.

I enjoy just exploring and looking at the scenery. There is always something new and visually stunning which actually begins to lessen the excitement of discovery after awhile. Oh look another gorgeous waterfall..

The real reason Skyrim is boring is because there is zero challenge. I can essentially press the mouse button over and over and win just about every fight in the game. There are a few quasi puzzles here and there but overall I feel like I am playing on super easy mode... and no I am not I checked.

Meh, I like Skyrim. Been playing the hell out of it for the past two days. Got something like 16 hours in on it.

Yeah, gotta love those gorgeous waterfalls:

And they look especially gorgeous when, 50% of the time, they don't start moving until you're standing right in front of them.

Are you sure its not a problem with your settings? Have you tried ugrids 7? Maybe you don't have enoug VRAM to load in the fresh textures? I've obviously seen waterfalls like that... but certainly not when standing right next to them. It looks more like that waterfall is a long distance away and part of a larger scene and you've just zoomed in on it.

Mmmm, I tried all those, made things better, but not to the point I'd consider them "good". Its like its not just distant textures that are the problem, but the geometry itself simplifies and becomes blocky, water particularly doesn't look so flash and shadows and lighting get turned down so it all just looks bland and ugly. Maybe its an engine limitation, as it would be awesome if we could just boost ugrids up to, I dunno, like 30 or something. Even with all those mods and ugrids 7, current video cards are stomping all over Skyrim, heaps more potential for better graphics.

Listening to all these complaint, I wonder if the game is meant to be a springboard into an MMORPG?

Q

Makes it so i can take a quick break as well for a drink or snack or something.

Wouldn't surprise me.

It seems like every developer that makes RPG games is going to have to make at least one and get it out of their system. I'm sure we'll see one from Bethesda before too long.

Imagine what a bug fest THAT will be.

It's OK. Not great, not bad. For open world RPG, I'd give the nod to New Vegas. I just prefer a bit more "world impact" and good writing. That doesn't stop me from firing it up every once in a while to explore a much better realized world than Oblivion.

yes... i really think new vegas is better... skyrim is just boring all over again... doesn't move me..

I didn't get sucked into it like I did Oblivion, but I don't feel I gave it a good enough chance. I plan to start again and go from there.

well maybe oblivion is the pioneer at that time after a major graphic update from morrowind.. skyrim is similar but with a cooler name ;)

Zenimax has been hiring mmo devs a while ago. I don't think it's a secret that they have something in the works.
