LA Noire PC sucks.

Yes but see I dont give a crap about facial animations. All my favorite games dont have any facial animations and I would never in a million years sacrifice half (or more) of my framerate just for a dumb wink or grin. Gameplay > Graphics for me always. If I want graphics ill watch toy story 3 or play Dragons Lair.
/facepalm

Best reply ever to be honest! What are you bunch of guys face palming for. If say the reason really was the face animation engine, then they shouldn't have bothered at all if they can't make it run smooth for something nobody will give a rats ass.

Nice to see when people talk out their ass about a game they don't know anything about.

*Facepalm.* The facial animation system is PART OF THE GAMEPLAY!

lol true, LA Noire is all about facial animation and reading them to see if they're lying or telling the truth.
It is the main part of the gameplay. It looks like people didn't do their research and only saw the shiny low price of $12.49.
I didn't know in a game where you walk, talk and look around 90% of time needs to run at 60fps. Need higher fps to press a key just to ask a question?

I played on xbox 360 not PC but one thing that was really noticeable about the game was that despite being set in an open world it was highly linear. You were always "in-mission" (unless you count the "streets of LA" option in the menus that only became available on completion of a desk) and other than the (fairly boring and repetititive) street crimes you had to do all the missions in a set order.

Compare that to GTA where there was loads of stuff you could do if you didn't feel like (or got stuck on) advancing the main story,

The Mafia games are the same way. Heavily focused story in an open city. I kind of like that focus. I have never beaten a single GTA game. I always get bored before the end. They never compelled me enough to finish them.

Team Bondi treated its employees like shit and did not include 80+ people who worked on the game in the credits. It deserves its rightful place currently rotting in receivership.

The FOV is far too low for multi-monitor, haven't found a way to increase it yet. Does support 3D and looks great, just sucks not having all three monitors.

You've missed the point completely. A large part of the game is paying attention to very fine details in the facial animation to determine if a person is lying or not, it's deeply rooted in gameplay and fundamental to the game.

There was a WideScreenFixer plugin from DopeFish that should help, but his site is down.

I would check the forums over there and see if anyone happens to have it. If you do find the plugin, post here! I want it too.

For me the game loaded fairly quickly and it performed perfectly and the graphics do not suck. They're not "zomg super amazing" but they're fine. There are areas between amazing and crap, not sure why people don't realize this.

I noiced on the Xbox that there was a lot of clipping and popping in of gfx, is this still present on the PC version?

Loved LA Noire!

Good for you.

If I wanted to be a 'troll' I could say something like: Some people happen to like bad games. Case in point here.

But I'm not going to do that. ;)

Also, the troll is strong in this thread...

Did you see the title of this thread before you posted your opinion? What did you think you were going to see?

But of course anyone that has a difference of opinion from yours is a troll, right?

Flawed as they were those games had a lot more going for them in terms of gameplay and narrative than this does IMO at least.

Mafia 2's gameworld is a downright tragedy of something that should have been utilized far more than it was. The detail and size are astonishing. I sorely wish the mod community could have gotten a crack at it.

LA Noire's gameworld and as a whole is also another sprawling place of MAJOR untapped potential. That's basically summary of that game in one sentence.

Exactly what I was thinking, a great engine/environment and a worthless story. Such a waste.

The early part of the game showed a lot of promise and the mission structure was well done, it's just too bad the game feels so unfinished and so obviously ripped apart to sell later as DLC.

great game, beat it on the ps3 before the pc version came out.

edit: it wasn't uncharted great, but it was great in its own right. it had its flaws but not big enough to drive me away from continuing playing. sure it could have been so much more, but I see a shit ton of games that could have been "soo much more."
It was worth the 30 I paid.

Played it last night for a little over an hour. Worth it in my opinion. It was like Heavy Rain, and is more of a story than a game. I'm happy with it for $12.

Thanks, I should have mentioned that I already tried this and yeah, for some reason that plug-in isn't available and the one packaged in Widescreen fixer doesn't seem to do anything.

If I find out anything I'll let you know and likewise please!;) Actually looks like a pretty nice adventure game.

Whatever expectations you might have, I think even people that love this game would have a very hard time classifying L.A. Noire as "an adventure game."

I certainly don't think it is.

Where else would you classify it? Noire isn't exactly a game genre, as much as I wish it was.

I'm not sure quite honestly. I guess you'd have to broadly default under adventure because other genres make even less sense. *shrugs*

Picked this up against my better judgement on the steam sale. Wow. What bullshit. Had to wait like 4 minutes while it checked for DLC. Graphics fucking suck big time. Performance is terrible (2500k/560ti). Anyone get it running decent?

Eh although I do hate the dlc check thing, im using a 560 as well and running an average of 58 fps. So the performance issue's might be local.

Straight from wikipedia's page:

"...is a 2011 neo noir crime video game..."

The closest you could get to for a local genre is action detective game.

unplugging my ethernet cable seems to shorten the dlc search for me down to about 30 seconds

It's a good game. The facial animations are very impressive and the game itself is very entertaining. I'm not sure what you guys are expecting here, it's a console port.

The polarizing responses in this thread about LA Noire convinced me to finally clear out some space on my Steam drive so that I can finally download it from Steam after purchasing it on Encore Day.

Curious to see if this 30fps cap will infuriate me like it does some of you.

It won't unless you like watching a fraps counter on top of your screen at all times.

I don't get what your trying to say here..... I don't like watching a fraps counter on the top of my screen at all times and the 30 FPS cap infuriates me............... Your logic falls apart when you think about what you wrote.

that's Steam for ya...I checked "do not update this game" and it still does everytime.
Steam in theory is great, in reality = bite me.

Offline mode is your friend. :)

I think all games in the library need to be fully updated for Steam to even load in Offline Mode. I know games have to be fully updated in order to be played in Offline Mode.

Trying to play a new game I bought in a retail store that just happened to have Steamworks when I was on dialup...just wasn't going to happen.

Maybe adventure isn't the right word without context. But the idea is that you're in a setting, move from place to place, picking up clues and interacting with the environment to solve cases. It's at least a crime mystery "adventure" game.

This is not a fast action game, 30 FPS is fine for it I think.

Fair enough.

Is there a TriDef 3D profile for this game? Can someone link me to it? Thanks.

You might want to check this out: http://www.ddd.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1577

So do you do much 3D gaming? 3D is kind of the reason I go with nVidia cards these days, this game is 3D Vision Ready and look very good in 3D. Unfortunately it's not very multi-monitor friendly, there's no way I've found to adjust the FOV.
