Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

The S3 Krypton will burn through the window :p And the MagLite is no joke, that damn thing is brighter than using a spotlight.

I'm still hoping they apply that to the game. Yes it does lighten up a bit, but it's still black. When i point the flashlight at a dark window, it'd be nice if you can actually see something.

OK, wow...tonight was my first time partying up with friends and having access to voice chat. What a game changer...I didn't rage at all tonight, was pretty much able to focus on just playing and having fun.

That's probably what they intended it for. Kinda like back in the day people used to toss 32 players into Shipment (I think that was the name?) in CoD4 and it was just an exercise in making it prone in front of a spawn and keeping your trigger depressed for quick unlocks.

I rented server and set it up for 32 player 24/7 Shipment. Good times...

I preferred the Nuke Town and currency solution by Treyarch, not as much grinding for the stuff you wanted and needed. I really got sick of Shipment, and getting irritated that they found some files related to that map in MW3.

We went in to kick ass last night... A scout kept designating with a SOFLAM, 2 engineers were chain launching javelins, and I kept the supply chain going. We pretty much locked down the sky. They sent snipers, jeeps, hell the entire air game was spending its time on us parked on the mountaintop instead of dealing with the ground forces pushing us in for a comeback. We still lost in the end, but realizing that the "unusually skilled" jet pilot had pretty much rage quit sometime through the map was extremely satisfying. We spent another round having a field day with everyone... I love how their snipers would barrel down on us in jeeps, only to see "I HATE YOUR JAVELINS!" a couple of seconds later. Then the very hungry caterpillar turned into a three eyed monster and the rest is available on DVD/BLU-RAY combo pack from Disney for $34.99 plus $13.75 S&H.

I just tried playing Metro 24/7, why the fuck do people play this? Meatgrind forever...

Because its fun. Playing as the US side and pushing past B is rewarding due to the challenge.

I usually stick to 32 metro servers so its not so bad. I did play a 64 player and it was crazy. I got 46 resupply ribbons in only 2 maps.

It is a nice change of pace once in a while. 32 player is crazy, but 64 is just insane. I find even 64 player non normal maps to be too chaotic - you can't even turn around without running into someone, takes some of the strategy out of it. Anyone complaining about insta-spawn killing should try 32 player sometime. Much less likely there.

Edit: And I swear I heard someone yell "Wolverine" again last night. I know I can't be imagining it - someone help me out here.

This. Did you see TheSuperDanks by chance?

Guys, have you noticed that soldiers, some times, mix Russian and English language? One phrase that I hear very often sounds like: "Blyat, they are attacking". This is not an exact phrase, I do not remeber the exact one. But "Blyat" is Russian swear word and the rest of the sentence is English.

also, I heard many times when soldier start shouting in Russian but finish in English. Is it me only or is it a bug in the game? :)

It's not a bug, it helps english speaking gamers understand chatter around them. If all Russian soliders spoke their language, you wouldn't know if a tank is coming, a sniper is on the roof or if a grenade is being thrown in your direction.
BC2 had Russian soldiers that only spoke Russian and it was quite difficult to ask for ammo or med-kits from your teammates. Spotting and location chatter were also difficult to understand.

If I hear my soldier or others around my screaming like they are getting their member chopped off it alerts me regardless rofl.

After enough hours playing, I figured out what each phrase meant. Although "GRENADA!!!!" did take me longer than the rest.... ;)

I'm Russian ant this combination of Russian and English in one phrase sounds very weird.
BTW, did you know that Blyat is quite a heavy Russian bad word. It is heavier then Fuck , for example , Blyat is not used in Russian movies because it is that bad, though, you can hear it in every day life on the streets quite often.

I quite preferred the full Russian voiceovers in BC2, made it very obvious when someone of the enemy team was around and the English sounds goofy in a Russian accent. Admittedly I never did figure out what voiceover was "Hey I need repairs" or "Pick me up!" but the fact that it flashed an icon on the minimap when someone requested it was leagues better than the current system (aka nothing at all). I wish I could turn the commo-rose off because the thing is flippin worthless and it keeps popping up when I don't want it to.

I was always amused how the Russian soldiers in Red Orchestra 2 would sometimes yell 'Suka!' when they ran out of ammo.

Also kinda made me chuckle a bit whenever in BC2 you'd hear 'Paschli paschli!' or 'Dvai dvai!' (not sure of spelling, as my Russian is terrible lol.)

Oh ok, the chatter does sound weird when you speak the language.
Wow, Blyat is heavier than fuck? Only in Russia :D.

Haha that's good to know. I actually prefer the full Russian dialog too. By playing 2142 I eventually learned what every phrase meant and can easily do the same if they did it in BF3. Eventually people start making connections with certain words and it makes the game that much more interesting!

Does the game still have issues with having HT switched on with i7 processors or has that been addressed?

The stupid thing is that you have to do this for it to be fun at all...

Very poor game design overall.

Am busy grinding through support and engineer now....in people's opinions what are the best weapons for these two classes?

Support: Probably M249 + Foregrip

Engineer: Not sure...I like the SCAR but they nerfed it a bit. Still like it, though.

I've been trying other support guns, but I think the M249 is the best also. The assignment gun (QBB-95?) is okay, but a lot of recoil.

It seems like none of the engineer guns is good anymore, since the nerfed the SCAR-H. The A-91 is good, but it is a late unlock. G36C also, but seems to have a lot of recoil. I've played engineer most of all, but I still haven't settled on a new gun after the SCAR-H.

For support, I've grown attached to the starting guns, either the RPK-74 or the M27 IAR. Engineer, I really like the AKS-74u, or the G36C.

The Scar is great, especially for long range burst shots. The G36C is awesome also, which I'm using now, very effective in close to mid range firefights and accurate in long range using bursts.
Use the G36C with the PKA-S Hold or Holographic Hold and the silencer. This clams down the recoil and makes it extremely effective. You can win most one on one battles very easily with good aim.
Those three weapons you named are the most effective for the engineer class. If only the AEK-971 was available for US Assault soldiers, boy would I have fun.

post nerfing, I find the scar useless. I used to love the shit outta it, but now I cant kill anything with it.

Anyone else ever have an issue where you can't use your keyboard in game? Really annoying. I just restart my comp when it happens because ESC, ALT-F4, windows key, etc won't work.

I <3 the M27 lately. it seems to be more accurate/controllable at range with foregrip rds and maybe heavy barrel?

I find it interesting that people say they find guns more accurate with a heavy barrel or tend to use them with guns in full auto fire modes, since from everything I've read the heavy barrel is more of a hindrance than a help. Except for the G3/AN-94.

I really like the SG553 from coop for the engineer class.

I've been using M27 with a foregrip and it's made taking people down so much easier. Can't speak for heavy barrel though

Never heard of such an issue, unless it's a wireless keyboard. If that's the case, have you changed out your batteries? I have a wireless keyboard at work and keys stop functioning when the battery is about shot. I've also had issues when there's been other wireless devices in the area causing interference lag on my keyboard.
