Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

Is the green flickering exclusive to AMD cards? It's pretty annoying, but usually comes and goes intermittently. The rubber-banding is also kind of annoying, but is pretty infrequent and I'm sure it'll be remedied soon.

Fuck me, I love this game. Nothing but good things to say about it other than I can't play it on Ultra. :(

No, I get it sometimes on my rig too, comes and goes. Must be a game issue since I'm on nvidia.

I've only played the campaign so far but I have to say... this game is insanely fun. The atmosphere is incredible.

THE GAME IS AMAZING FUN!!!

GTX580 @ 1000mhz
2600k @ 4.7ghz
1600x900 @ 120hz
All Ultra Settings
Motion Blur Off
85 FOV
2xMSAA
SAOO ON

I average 100-150 fps!

I realize it's overkill and now I run 4xMSAA and Post AA on Low, this looks the best IMO and still stay around the 100fps mark. If you run post AA on high long distance viewing is blury, leave it low or off.

How awesome would it be if you could drive this giant dump truck around lol....

Has anyone's card been charged yet for BF3 after having pre-ordered from Origin? I am not seeing any charge on my account. When I pre-ordered there was a charge but I don't think it stayed, was more like a pre-auth.

I have also activated and played both MP and SP.

Game is amazing, totally different experience from the beta even though I got a few crashes here and there, hopefully new driver will fix the issue.
Didn't really notice the fps but @2560x1600 I saw the lowest is around 40fps, Ultra 4xMSAA, 16xAF, Motion Blur off, smooth as butter :D

Yea this game is the shit. I just wish I had more time to play this week, damn 12 hour days .

This is the first time I giggle like a girl in years. This game is simply amazing.

The chaotic feeling is of a movie.

My only rant with this game is the squad size. I wish they could at least increase it to 6.

Passed out before release last night (EST)... And now waiting until I get out of the office so I can finally get in some BF3 action!

This will be a slow day....

I agree, playing on a Caspian server in one area we had 4 tanks and 2 helicopters competing for a flag. It was absolutely chaotic and this was at 6:30am EST....

OK, my system can handle this far better than I anticipated.

However, I keep getting kicked from servers by administrators? What the fuck?

:D

It gets very chaotic. If you could hear my team mates on Ventrilo we were all screaming.

I can't see sh!t!!! There is too much smoke...just follow the tracers and suppress fire!!!

I love how every little detail counts. The smoke and debris falling from the sky so awesome.

A few issues I have. Anyone else getting these?

1) Microstutter. Games runs great on my system, except for a herky-jerky stutter every second or so that makes me wanna puke. I'm running the BF3 beta drivers, and BF3 alpha/beta did not do this. Tried all graphical settings combinations, no change.

2) Green flashing. Looks like other people are getting this too. I've been seeing this since the alpha test (and I know a ton of other people reported it to Dice), how the heck is this STILL in the release code?

3) Strange cap on mouselook speed. If I'm looking only in the narrow field of view in front of me \/ mouselook is normal, but if I have to whip around for a 180 or something, no matter what my sensitivity is I can only turn like 90* per second (looks like someone playing with a gamepad where you can only turn so fast). In the alpha and beta (just like in every other FPS I've played) if my sensitivity was cranked I could push the mouse across my pad and my character would spin a billion times, now he is capped to turn at rotation speed X.

I get the green flashing from time to time. I notice this mostly in night time maps and when I'm close to a light pole.

Regarding the mouse issue, did you try disabling "Raw Mouse Input" from the control settings?

Well I had a wierd crash after ~10 minutes which wasnt too enthralling. Screen went all wonky green and I was suddenly back at the desktop, but the computer continued to work fine. Seemed like a GPU thing but not sure.

Another tip from your friendly Diesel :D

If you want to customize your Soldier avatar you can signup for free at Gravatar.com and upload your picture.

Battlecom reads the avatar from Gravatar's site.

(1) On Battlelog click on your Origin ID on top.
(2) On the left side click on Edit Profile.
(3) Enter the E-mail address used on Gravatar.
(4) Give it few minutes and Battlecom will load the default Gravatar "avatar".

Microstutter is server related or EA server maint. related. It only happens when they are working on something.

Game is epic indeed.

Much improved from the beta. Been having a lot of fun. I still have not gotten to base jump, is that a rush only thing?

my only complaint right now is getting friends into the same squad is still way too hard. You can now see squads and leave them, but you can not pick which squad to join. It will just put you in the next one that is missing people.

I dunno about you guys but I turned everything on max detail and I'm getting smooth frame rate on a single 480Gtx..I must say I am pleasantly surprised. This is substantially better than the beta we saw.

Riva tuner on screen display can be perceived as a hack by PBS. If you are using EVGA precision you may want to disable and try again.

I'm just using the BF3 console command for FPS:

1. Hit ~ to bring up the console.
2. Type Render.DrawFps 1, press enter

The game is absolutely amazing. My wife, who has no interest in video games besides the fact that she glances at my screen from time to time when I play them, said "holy shit that's amazing" when we had a full blown firefight in the tunnel of that construction/mining map. Smoke was everywhere, fire, tanks trading shells, the sound was more diagnostic than what you could see. Was just awesome.

Multi is damn fun, jets are actually a little tough to fly lol. Runs great on mix of ultra/high. Having a ton of fun

At 1920x1200 with High preset (which includes FXAA), I was getting 60 and higher on all the maps I played (which was all of them, I think).

No way can you max out the entire game with a single 580, not at playable frame rates on a decent resolution.

I guess my 480Gtx must be a special version since I'm doing it at 1920x1080 without any issues.

I used FRAPS and EVGA Precision for the 15min I was in-game last night, no problems.

The MP is way funnier than BFBC2, especially since i don't play 23 hours/day LOL! Had some nice epic moments yesterdays on the Port map! :)

I also saw that the map was cramped (the mini map), but i rarely use it in any game anyway so... The on screen info is more interesting than the minimap, playing on a 106 screen, the minimap is far LOL!

There are new Nvidia drivers out that are WHQL.

Game plays pretty smooth on my 2x6950s @ 1920x1200, Ultra, Motion Blur, HBAO On, 4x/16x. 50-80fps while most of the time it was around 75fps
